End The Madness

I think we need to get a ban on the phrase 'this isn't Madden', or 'this isn't a video game'.
It's probably the most condencending thing that can be said on a football message board, used mostly by people who have never even played Madden and think the phrase has justified their argument and demolished the apposing argument.
Especially in reference to trades and cap-hits. Anytime someone suggests a trade there will, without fail, be someone making a post along the lines of 'this isn't Madden; there are cap reprecussions!'. Well, there are cap reprecussions for trades and releases in Madden also. Madden has a far superior grasp of the salary cap and it's workings than 85-90% of the members on this board.

I was thinking the exact same thing about a week ago.

But, there are plenty of little kids who base their entire knowledge of football on Madden...and not in a good way.

It's one thing to let Madden educate you on the basics of the game, especially when you're unable to watch the games. But, when it comes to the intricacies of football, Madden barely skims the surface, particularly when it comes to football strategy and psychology.

I doubt someone would sign up to a Ravens' forum having never watched a Ravens game. And even so, this isn't a debate about the merit of Madden as a teaching device, it's about the use of the aforementioned phrase as a put down, when the the person who said it has no knowledge of Madden, they're just being smug.
