Proposed NFL Changes (merged)

I'd say fans have an impact on typical NFL plays, especially in places like Seattle and Kansas City where the other team has a hard time communicating. That type of thing happens on every play when the road team has the ball.

I agree(and this part is more my own thoughts on the subject of players celebrating) that a player can celebrate how they want for the most part and fans don't have to be a part of it. I think there are limits obviously to what the player can do but I also think some of the more odd celebrations have been remembered far more than the plays themselves. Heck NFL AM even does a segment every week of the regular season on player dances. Not celebrating is cool and I respect that but I don't think it should be a requirement and it makes people who don't celebrate look better when they can celebrate but choose not to.

1. I mean they must not have that hard of a time of communicating, because they're still able to get the right plays off almost every time and are still able to convert plays, move the football up and down the field, and score points. I agree it can be somewhat more difficult in places, but its not like teams are going in there thinking they can't win because of the fans.

2. Obviously celebrating shouldn't be a requirement. If they want to do it, do it. If they don't, don't. If fans don't like it, don't watch or look away.

I am not saying the impact is huge but it is there and teams have to account for it on every play.

I think I mistyped celebrating being a requirement. What I meant to say is the opposite with celebrations being taken out. I would not support that. Other than that, I agree with the players choice being the factor in celebrations.

Can I celebrate?  lol

Yes, but not by yourself.

You might offend people who are consciously making the choice to be offended when they could easily just not be offended. And we wouldn't want that now would we?

How many of you heard of Tom Landry?  He was the first Dallas Cowboys Head Coach he coached them over 25 years. He wouldn't allow the Cowboys do those TD dances in the end zone or even spike the ball. Even told them if they did he would fine them!

Oh, well that changes EVERYTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  If he said it than I will change my opinion completely and totally 100%.
Booooooo celebrations.  If Harbs doesn't ban them, then I am gonna cheer for some team that doesn't celebrate.
Steve, thank you for the very compelling and convincing argument.  Your insight and logic has shed light on the error of my ways.   I can't believe how wrong I was.  Thank you for bringing clarity.

Why cant you give a legit reason instead of , they're there to play football....

Just when i thought you posted some of the funniest outrageous stuff....this happens.

Well those TD celebrations are just plan dumb n stupid. Plus it holds up the game. Let me put it another way,,,Try to do that kind of stuff in High School or in College and see what the Refs do next.

It does quite a bit to limit audibles and set protections, so while they may get the right play off (kinda easy when you're all two inches from each other's faces), they certainly are having a much tougher time adjusting the "correct" play and making it the "ideal" play.

Yeah, they throw a flag, just like they do in the NFL.

There's also the slight difference of one person getting paid and one person not. One is an amateur and one is a professional. When you get to the absolute peak of your professional industry, you can showboat all you want.

This topic title has absolutely nothing to do with TD celebrations lol

You're right.  We try to be a little more lenient in the off-season but this hijacking needs to stop.  I guess we're going to have to crack down on the repeat offenders.

Please note: the "celebration" discussion, which never belonged in this thread, is DONE.

Very little of the 4 pages exactly match the title as pretty much the whole thread has been a general discussion of any proposed NFL rule changes.

If you go back and read the thread the discussion about celebrations was directly related to  proposed NFL rule changes. The OP proposed a rule change to ban celebrations. If that discussion doesn't belong than pretty much all but the first 7 or 8 posts don't belong.  lol

Oh yeah.  I would be a BIG fan of this rule. ( I am looking at you Tom )

My question would be, what exactly is "asking for a flag? "
Like when a WR is sprinting down the field and a corner hooks his elbow and the WR holds his hands up in the air like " what ? What ? "   Would that be a penalty ?
