Maybe we should skip the playoffs and Super Bowl and give the Lombardi to the side with the #1 defence at the end of the season.

We should also cut the season to 10 weeks.

Thats the way it was during the 1950s. You lose just 3 games back in 50s era and you're done

Really? That stat shows you just how strong your defense is. Remember the old saying '' Defense wins championships"

What about offense?  Your logic baffles me

I approve.

It sounds like a lot of work, but I'll fall on the knife and be the judge if it's for the betterment of the NFL and society as a whole.

I'm sure you'll have a hard time, but I trust you are up for the task. I know you'll do your best.

Yeah. And as @Filmstudy already pointed out, for division ties it is

1) head to head

2) Division record

3) record in common games

4) Conference record

5) Strength of victory

I await the day a division winner or wildcard is determined by a coin-flip lol--only have to push on 10 or 11 other tiebreakers

Well, assuming the Steelers beat the Colts on Thursday (since it appears Luck will be out)...looks like we are down to 3 possible tiebreaks with the Steelers:

1)  Head to Head---Baltimore obviously wins this tiebreak if they beat Steelers on Christmas

2) Division Record--Still could go either way (Baltimore is 3-0 with 2 games vs Bengals and 1 vs Steelers)  Steelers are 3-1 with 1 @ Bengals and 1 vs. Ravens left)

3) Common Games--Ravens win this tiebreak if Steelers beat Colts Thursday.

How do the Ravens win the common games tiebreaker if the Steelers beat the Colts? The Ravens don't even play the Colts.

I posted in another thread that the Steelers and Ravens have 12 common games. The Colts is not one of them.

This is exactly why the Ravens win it.  Basically, 14 out of 16 games are common games.  The "uncommon games" for the Ravens were the Jaguars and Raiders (which we went 1-1)  For the Steelers, the "uncommon games" were the Chiefs and Colts.  If Pitt beats Indy, they are 2-0 in "uncommon games)

Therefore, let's say the Ravens and Steelers finish at 9-7.  Ravens "common game" record would be 8-6.  Steelers "common game" record would be 7-7.

That is true. But if they win against the Colts, that gives us less of a chance of having the better overall record. So I'm not going to be rooting for the Steelers Thursday.

I agree.  I will be rooting against the Steelers EVERY game.  My point was Pitt losing to Giants, Bills, or Bengals are better for us than them losing to the Colts.

I find it very unlikely the Steelers will drop this game, assuming Luck doesn't play. (obviously I will still be rooting against them)  A liittle more realistically, I am hoping the Steelers drop 2 of 3 vs Giants, @ Bills, and @ Bengals--not counting on it though.  IF that happens and Ravens win 3 of next 4 (including win vs. Bengals this week), the Ravens would go into the final 2 game stretch Pitt and @ Cincy needing only 1 win to claim the division because we would have the Common Games tiebreak.

I think this year an 8-8 record can win this division.

Unfortunately ,it looks like Luck may not play against the Steelers. Ugh.
