[News] Late For Work 11/15: Ravens 2016 Defense Playing Like Legendary Defenses Of The Past

Nice to see that the defense is going in the right direction! Now think about how good they could be if the O is able to keep the ball moving and put up more points to pressure other teams!

The important piece that set the tone of this of this year great Ravens defense is Tavon Young. This was the key player that made the Ravens defense even better because we needed a corner that can cover, can ballhawk, and make great tackles. This was the piece we was missing in the secondary and Tavon has it. I hope Dumervil can come back and gives us a little more at pass rushing.

I just want us to beat the cowgirls so all the media pundits will scream about wether Romo/Prescott should be the starting QB in Dallas, while no one pays attention to us and we methodically continue to win ugly games and no one gives us a chance, then we barely slip into the play-offs and everyone hates us...sounds like the usual way the Ravens win.

"A good defense, excellent special teams, and an average O that doesn't turn the ball over could win the North this year."  --What about the interceptions every game?

A #1 ranked defense reminds me of the good ol' days in Baltimore. They just need to keep on it with a win on Sunday.

Beating the Cowboys would send the message that we can fall and rise again when we need to most.

Can't ask for more from the defense but now we gotta worry about our offensive line. Not hearing good things about Yanda. I think his age is finally starting to catch up to him, this guy has never missed this many games. Ducasse did OK last week, but yanda and  lewis out is not good, and we all know how Joe plays when constantly under pressure. Let's hope the backups can step up.

Beating the Cowgirls would have the media going into a frenzy over "should Romo be the starter over Prescott" storyline, and the Raven's would be pretty much ignored as usual. Which would be fine by me.

I don't know why the offense looks 10x more efficient when they run a no-huddle or 2 min offense.  It's almost night and day.

I'm trying to remember if the Ravens were ignored the last time they went to Dallas and stole the show, which oddly enough was Flacco's rookie year.

Cowboys have never beaten the Ravens. Our defense is ranked #1. Cowboys are averaging 30 pts. per game, but Ravens only giving up 18 ppg. If we can hold them to 20, we'll need 21 to win. Doable.

BTW, an 8-8 record will probably win our division. If that is the way it goes down, we'll need to win our division games to get the tie-breaker (if necessary). So Dallas game isn't super critical to win. But ... 8-8 will definitely not get a Wild Card berth, so we need to take the division.

I just don't see that.  I think the Steelers go at least 9-7.

Actually, I believe we did get some attention, mainly because Joe was a rookie and Harb's a first year head coach and we were heading towards the play-offs, which wasn't expected, so we were getting some press. Not to mention that we ruined America's team final home game at Texas stadium, and as I remember some commentators were of the opinion that we should have thrown the game so Dallas could retire their stadium in style. Much like the reporters that felt Cal Ripken should have ended his streak before breaking Gehrig's record. It may come as a total shocker, but there are quite a few people out there who don't like Baltimore...

I'm not saying that we wouldn't get SOME credit if we beat the Cowgirls, but the national media would be much, much more focused on Romo VS Prescott hype, with a brief mention that we somehow managed to win.

Maybe. Hard to see the Steelers finishing 10-6, given they already have 5 losses. They'd have to go 6-1 down the stretch, which I don't think they're good enough to do. Still play Colts, Bills and Bengals on the road and have to play the Giants at home and us at home. I think 9-7 is right about where they end up.

Given that the Bengals already have a tie, they can really only afford one more loss, which means they need to go 6-1 as well. And they don't look like a good team at all.

i am more concerned with the patchwork o-line than the game sunday because zuttah is playing injured and has been avg. at best thus far and now our depth is dwindling to the point we will be starting guys that will get manhandled for the most part. with yanda and lewis out it will make things more difficult but i have my fingers crossed that marty will have a solid game plan to help flacco get rid of the ball more quickly

Think How good the 2000 team was when the team didn't score a touchdown in 6 games.

True - but this won't have any effect on Sunday's game. This Ravens have never played this Cowboys. We have barely left any players on our roster that was on the roster the last time these two teams played each other. And nobody thinks that games a decade or more ago really count. Nice, but totally irrelevant statistics.

This is gonna be a game where a hot D will meet a hot O. I'm firmly convicted that the game will be decided by how much our O can contain Elliott, Dez Bryant and Witten. Dallas has an excellent O-wall, so I don't think we'll be able to put an awful lot of pressure on Prescott. Ergo, we will have to contain their primary weapons.

As for our O, sorry, but I don't think we'll see much of them with both of our guards  out, and nothing like quality backups replacing them. If we can keep it a low-scoring game, we may win. If not, I don't see much chance.

It may be misleading to compare these two teams. Offenses are much, much more protected now than back then. Ergo, O's have become more important. A great D could much easier make up for the shortcomings of the O, because they were allowed miuch more than today. Today, if you have a great WR and a QB who can toss the ball to him deep, it will either be a lot of long completions, or a lot of laundry for DPI. And that will almost invariably keep moving the chains. That's why our D's have regulary been burnt by such tandems - Dalton and Green, Manning and Beckham, Brady and Gronkowsi etc... Now it's Prescott and Dez Bryant...

Let's hope the D can contain them like Roethlisberger and Brown.

As I recall we have almost always been ignored in one way or another. I personally could care less if we are. We just need to do our thing and go home.

teams WANT to play the Vikings defense to see if they can beat them....NO ONE wanted to play the Ravens defense cuz they already knew the answer.

cuz they simplify the offense and we don't have to think as much. We run on natural instinct and ability.

yes we were ignored cuz it was the last game or the first game in their old or new stadium and all their hall of famers were there. We were supposed to get trounced.

It absolutely amazes me how close this years' D is to the other great years we put up in the past. Outstanding work, way to go guys!!!

We were known for our D.  So glad that reputation has emerged again. They looked aggressive and ready, especially in the second half of the Browns game.

Conklin and Cravens. I thought Landon Collins was worth a top 15 pick. I was right. I said this season reminds me of 2000, 2012, and 2013 rolled into one. Unfortunately, 2013 seems to be unfolding before my eyes.
