CBS Mock Draft - 10/14/16

19 posts in this topic

CBS just did a mock draft yesterday and I would be pretty happy with this outcome:

Quote

21. Baltimore Ravens

Tim Williams , OLB, Alabama: Terrell Suggs remains a marvel at 34, leading the Ravens with five sacks through eight games but his 32-year old counterpart, Elvis Dumervil , has missed most of the season with a mysterious foot ailment. Possessing a lightning-quick burst off the snap, Williams has starred as a rush specialist for Alabama (GM Ozzie Newsome's alma mater) and could play an even greater role in the pass-happy NFL after learning from Suggs and Dumervil.

I would be thrilled if the Ravens grabbed Tim Williams in the low twenties. He'd easily be the best player at a need position in that range. As a side note they had the Browns taking Jonathan Allen number 1 overall, and I would not be looking forward to facing him if he goes after the RT. Even Stanley would have his hands full. For the rest of the division the Steelers got Sidney Jones IV (CB) and the Bengals picked up Cam Robinson (OT).

A little confused on the Bengals drafting Cam Robinson in that mock. They still have Whitworth and drafted Ogbeuhi and Fisher in the same draft two years ago.

Williams will be long gone by 21. We saw last year with Floyd that teams will overlook a heck of a lot to take a good pass rusher, and Williams is less of a liability against the run than Floyd was.

Last year's class was nowhere near as loaded as this one, esp the edge rusher class which was abysmal in terms of 1st round talent.

Matt Miller did a recent mock with the Ravens nabbing Ryan Anderson.

He's probably more likely at 21 than Williams and even though Williams is a freak rusher, I think Anderson fits a Ravens mould of OLB better.

I just don't think Tim Williams makes it that far.

TBH I'm not huge on Williams, he flashes that's for sure but I really fear he has the same problems Correa is having. I could honestly prefer Anderson.

Williams is worlds better than Correa. And Williams actually knows how to use his hands, bend the edge and finish.

No doubts, but my point is if I picture an NFL Tackle in front of him I think he lacks the violence and the strength to get out of the grasp of his opponent. He's fast, well rounded, does bend the edge (although I find him stiff at times, Anderson actually does it better) but is it gonna translate? My fear is that it won't. Correa came at the opposing OT with much more violence if we're still comparing, and it's not enough yet, so imagine for Williams.

Now nothing is definitive, I need and want to see more of him, he has some eye popping moment but my guess is he could be absolutely taken out of games.

Williams is flashing too often for it to be called flashes. He's incredibly fast and has moves, when more strength develops, look out NFL.

Williams is nothing like Correa.  Williams is developed.  Correa is not.

1) Yes, we knew him before the draft. And we still know him, not playing because Zach Orr is playing at a near Pro Bowl level isn't a crime.

2) You need two teams to trade. Ozzie tried several times to trade up this year and just didn't find anyone.

3) This year's class is so loaded at certain positions, overspending for a guy could be very very costly.

I have to agree, Ozzie seems (in large part) to have adopted a 'quantity over quality' approach - as if 11 draft picks guarantee 11 solid contributers.
We have so much "potential" strolling along the sidelines in sweats on gameday. We need dudes who can just play, who don't need 4 seasons to develop.
And while BPA might be a solid strategy, sometimes you have to plug GLARING holes with impact players (whether you have to trade up or not.... that's not even considering so called "character issues".)

ATT. Ravens FO: Please learn from 2016 and adjust accordingly, tangible results are desperately needed!

You don't judge the success of a player based on his first year as a pro. We got Correa and Judon instead of Spence, who came with off the field issues, interviwed horribly and had a disappointing combine. Spence's sacks are mostly coverage sacks and came because there's no one else at the position in TB
