TE Dilemma: Now and Going Forward

34 posts in this topic

The real dilemma to me isn't how to deal with all the TEs appropriately, the real dilemma is that none of them are stepping up to claim the top spots.

-Watson will miss all of this Season he turns 36 in December. I'm not sure what his dead money would be if cut, a trade is highly unlikely.

- Pitta has had 1 really good game, outside of that he's only been average, Flacco and he have not been on the same page.

- Maxx Williams has not been used correctly these first 2 years, he was mostly used for blocking rather than receiving. Given his injury this year it's basically 2 years down drain for his development.

-C.Gilmore to me is nothing more than an extra blocker that can occasionally get a catch. He is the least athletic TE of the group. And Gilmore seems to go down weekly with injuries.

- Waller is still an unknown, perhaps that Browns game will lead to him being used more, he could be a matchup nightmare if used properly. Will he get the opportunities to see what he has to offer?

- Boyle was a pleasant surprise as a Rookie, while I wasn't wowed by him I think he's a capable backup TE or perhaps could be traded for a 6th round pick.

i was hoping Pitta would continue to improve his play and separate himself, but it hasn't happened. I'm personally hoping Waller gets used more down the stretch gets some TDs then becomes a guy for us.

It's a shame that so many seemingly able players have disappointed this year, be it injury or slumping.  Still, you have to think at least one of them can turn it around.  I wonder what Watson could have been :/

Cut Watson and Pitta, both are washed up and come with bad contracts. Gillmore, Williams, Boyle and Waller is a talented group. They all need to take big steps in their development (or just not get suspended), but I think we'll have to rely on that. Gotta stop investing so much into TE for awhile.
