Who will be the next member of Ravens go to HALL OF FAME?

If Art shouldn't be in Canton, neither should Redskins owner George Preston Marshall who was the last NFL owner to integrate his team and was only forced by Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy to play in then DC Stadium, now (RFK).   Being like Marshall is a worse issue than just moving a team.

But like you said, there's 46 members. I'm not sure what percentage of the vote they have to receive to actually be considered for a finalist, but I'm sure it's not unanimous.

Plus, when you take a football team from a city, even if it was done the right way, you're going to get a lot of hard feelings.

An 80% vote for a finalist to make it in. I agree about the hard feelings and it's understandable although, at some point in time professionalism should supersede.

I'm sure Modell will get in sometime. Just may not be anytime soon.

Ray gets in on the first ballot when eligible. Reed gets in most likely when first eligible, but isn't as sure of a thing. He's a lock for the HOF, just not a lock for first ballot.

Stover likely never gets in.

If Ed Reed doesn't make it first-ballot it's not going to be pretty. You're talking about one of the three greatest safeties in NFL history(who you could make a legit argument for being the best ever), and a one of a kind player who will never be replicated who was arguably more valuable than Lewis was to the team given his ability to single handily take away half of the field, and despite the fact that QBs intentionally tried to scheme him out of the game he was still a threat to take the ball away on every play and score. He's one of the most impactful defenders in the history of the NFL and he didn't have to make a play in order to prove his value, who was a coach on the field for the majority of his career. I know safeties have a poor track record, but Reed was a Ronnie Lott caliber player who by the way was a first ballot hall of famer. I'd be apalled if Reed didn't make it on his first go around because there are not a lot of players in past ten years that had the impact he did on games, one of maybe 4 was his own teammate(Ray Lewis, Dawkins, Jason Taylor, Ware)

Polamalu is one of the 5 greatest safeties in NFL history, and will also likely get elected first ballot because he was one of the most marketable/recognizable  defensive backs ever, and was one of my least favorite players to watch because he was that good.

It would have to be a loaded class for the voters to forgo Ed Reed as a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He was a transcendent talent and a rarity from the standpoint of making an impact in whichever facet he was involved in, whether it be playing defense, blocking punts, or returning them. He's the most versatile scoring defender of all time. He had unrivaled instincts in coverage and the level of fear and respect he earned from some of the biggest names at QB i.e. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady to me cement his standing. That "Find 20 on every play" armband tells a good bit of the story.

I'd be shocked if Ed isn't first ballot when that time comes.  I get the lack of S in the HOF overall, but you're also talking about a guy that is arguably the best S of all time.  He impacted the game in so many ways.

Totally agree with this statement,

The ghost of moving the team will forever haunt Modell, I'm afraid to say   Just like Len Bias's death will always keep Lefty Drissell  out of the Naismith Hall of Fame.

With all that being said, you still have to put Ed Reed among the finalist to contend for 1st ballot.

I dont remember a player in any position as good as Ed Reed.

Many people knoe Reeds Int/and his ballhawk skill, but he was also a all-pro SS.

Ed Reed was a better SS than Troy Polamalu on their 1st year in that position.   Reed transferred to FS, but Reed truely could do it all.

I would be livid if they gave Troy more recognition than Reed.

safeties have a hard time making it in as first ballots. dont be surprised to see ed reed and polamalu both have to wait a few years.

ray is a first ballot, no question.

suggs is a long shot, definitely will be up for consideration, but he will need to finish this season strong and have one more really good season to be a serious contender. even then, i think he is far from first ballot and may never make it in.

ngata probably wont be in the discussion, he wasnt racking up flashy stats for a while as a 34DE and got injured often, and his heart clearly wasnt in it towards the end of his time here and it appears to still be the case in detroit.

yanda should be a HOF guard, but guards have a hard time making it in as well.

derrick mason could make it in one day when you consider his time with the titans as well, but he retired a raven and would go in as such, but hes another long shot, maybe in the next 20 years if theres a really weak HOF class he sneaks in.

but if we have ray, JO, and ed reed in the HOF by 2020, thats less than 20 years played with 3 hall of famers for this franchise, thats unheard of.

I know theres been some great safeties that had a hard time getting in (or havent got in at all), but i do think the committee will recognize the greatness of Ed Reed and an exception to the rule will be made. If theres a safety with the pedigree and accomplishments to go in 1st ballot, its him. But, its no shoo-in.

He changed the game, and dominated unlike any safety prior or since.

There really havent been any safeties inducted that played since the 60's/70's, which is definitely a concern considering some of the great safeties in the 80's/90's like a Ronnie Lott for example.

Rod Woodson is in, but primarily was a corner for most of his career.

It's definitely an uphill climb, but I do think Reed is widely recognized as the best to ever do it at his position. The fact that he was pretty much interchangeable between FS/SS which you could argue led to the change in the prototype of the safety position to wanting guys that were completely interchangeable. He was a big hitter in the box, and probably the best center fielder to do it.

Then theres his records in return yards, his early ST prowess, etc... I just think theres too much there to not get the guy in.

I hope that the changes in the modern game, with the emphasis on passing, and the importance that safety play now has in the game will open the door for some of these guys.... especially Reed and Troy. Brian Dawkins is another one who was pretty great for a long time, but probably has 0 shot of getting in unless something drastically changes.

I didn't know the sentiment that Ed Reed isn't a HOFer was even a thing. And I'd be completely shocked if it wasn't first ballot

Don't think anybody thinks he's not getting in. Its just that historically safeties aren't treated well as part of HOF classes, and they sometimes struggle to get in quickly.

I suspect Reed will break that mold due to how special a player he was.

I'm with Ray.

Afterwards I believe Ed will go in with Troy. Why? It would be a great PR move for the NFL to celebrate the rarely inducted Safety position given the direction that the league is heading. It will also serve as a tremendous boost to league popularity given the 'True Rivalry - Students of the Game - Soldiers of the Gridiron - Marquee Match-ups' aspect of progressive marketing strategies. Remember, the voters have changed over recent years. Their are younger voters who have different heroes, different appreciations of the game and lived and breathed-in the smoke from the fires of one of the greatest rivalries ever. They lived for it. They'll vote accordingly.

In addition, Ed and Troy have so much respect and admiration for each other and are incredibly well versed in the history of the game that the league could only benefit from embracing their legacy.

If not for knee injuries Boulware would of been a first ballot HOF. He was Von Miller before there was Von Miller. At his peak he was superior to Jason Taylor at his peak. Whom probably is going HOF. If his political career gains real traction he could have legit shot

Well worst case scenario, if Reed doesn't go 1st ballot, he will once Manning or Brady gets in a demand in because he scared the Crap out of them both.

The HoF voters aren't going to be swayed by such an argument.  Making Reed wait a year for Polomalu would be about as big a slap in the face as you can give Ed Reed.  Granting Troy early access to go in with Reed cheapens the induction of virtually every other first-ballot player.

To get in early in baseball, you have to die, like Clemente or Gehrig.  No one wants that for Troy, so they each get to celebrate as the lone safety in their class.

I believe Ed is a first ballot, that being said, its hard not to say Troy isnt.  The guy was simply amazing and i seen him ruin many of our runs.  Still one of the best plays ive ever seen is when he jumped over the line at the exact second of the hike to sack Kerry Collins, great play.  That being said, If Ed isnt first ballot, Troy isnt.

Very good player who lacks the longevity for induction.  He only played 7 seasons + 222 snaps as an irregular situational rusher in 2005.

Could he have been greater without the injuries, sure.  However, I don't think comparisons to Von Miller are justified.

Well, Brian Dawkins is a finalist for the HoF this year... so while safeties have had a hard time getting in historically, the fact that Dawkins is even in the conversation tells me Reed will be a guaranteed first-ballot HoF inductee.

I can see both not getting in their first year, but they'll be in by the second or third. It would be pretty cool if they went in on the same year.

If Dawk is a finalist in his 1st year, i dont see how Ed wont get in his 1st year. I honestly didnt think Dawk would be a finalist... but here he is. Looks like the committee is starting to come around on safeties... and Ed was the best to ever do it.

I was questioning it a bit until now. Now i have no doubts and itll be a crime if he doesnt get in 1st ballot.

If you read my entry completely you'd know that it didn't include that statement or favoring Troy for 'early access'. It said Ed and Troy should go in the HOF together (period). Apparently, I'm not the only person who feels like that's a possibility.

From the Steelers Opinion Column:

"After spending their careers playing against each other, it's only fitting that the two best safeties of the past quarter century be enshrined together in the Pro Football Hall of Fame."

http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/pittsburgh-steelers-opinions-reactions-news-updates/2015/5/11/8584267/hopefully-ed-reed-and-troy-polamalu-enter-the-hall-of-fame-together

From the ESPN Opinion Column:

"The others might have to wait a year or two if there's carryover from previous years. For example, Ed Reed is on the 2019 ballot, and Troy Polamalu is under consideration in 2020. Safeties have a tough time getting in, but those two will be hard to keep out for long, which leaves open the possibility they snag a spot in 2021."

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/14929677/2021-hall-fame-class-chance-one-best-ever-nfl

I simply stated my thought on the subject (not an argument for HOF voters). But if they let me in the room I'd say again: If you don't select Ed Reed in 2019 (there's currently a very low probability with voters) and when 2020/21 comes around - you should induct Ed and Troy together. As long as Reed goes in 1st (Purple in Black All-Day). You feel me?
