Jonathan Ogden was the first Ravens player to hall of fame. Who will be Next? Ray Lewis, Ed Reed or Matt Stover?

Stover won't make it.

Ray since he retired first, than Reed, and then after that in all likelihood Suggs, maybe Yanda, and had Ngata been a little more dominant maybe him.

Don't be too sure of that. He set field goal records.

safeties have a hard time making it in as first ballots. dont be surprised to see ed reed and polamalu both have to wait a few years.

ray is a first ballot, no question.

suggs is a long shot, definitely will be up for consideration, but he will need to finish this season strong and have one more really good season to be a serious contender. even then, i think he is far from first ballot and may never make it in.

ngata probably wont be in the discussion, he wasnt racking up flashy stats for a while as a 34DE and got injured often, and his heart clearly wasnt in it towards the end of his time here and it appears to still be the case in detroit.

yanda should be a HOF guard, but guards have a hard time making it in as well.

derrick mason could make it in one day when you consider his time with the titans as well, but he retired a raven and would go in as such, but hes another long shot, maybe in the next 20 years if theres a really weak HOF class he sneaks in.

but if we have ray, JO, and ed reed in the HOF by 2020, thats less than 20 years played with 3 hall of famers for this franchise, thats unheard of.

Most consecutive games scoring field goals

3rd most career field goals

I am as big of a Stover fan as anyone, but "Most consecutive games scoring field goals"
and third most career is hardly enough for a HOF mention.
Plus Steve said recordS. Plural.  I am aware of only one significant one, as you mentioned.

Ray Lewis is next for sure, then Ed Reed.

After those locks it's tough... Steve Smith is making a case for himself by climbing up the recod ladders but the HOF is notoriously hard on WRs now.

Suggs has an outside chance and if Justin Tucker can someday hold the all time accuracy record he might possibly make it.

If Ed Reed doesn't make it first-ballot it's not going to be pretty. You're talking about one of the three greatest safeties in NFL history(who you could make a legit argument for being the best ever), and a one of a kind player who will never be replicated who was arguably more valuable than Lewis was to the team given his ability to single handily take away half of the field, and despite the fact that QBs intentionally tried to scheme him out of the game he was still a threat to take the ball away on every play and score. He's one of the most impactful defenders in the history of the NFL and he didn't have to make a play in order to prove his value, who was a coach on the field for the majority of his career. I know safeties have a poor track record, but Reed was a Ronnie Lott caliber player who by the way was a first ballot hall of famer. I'd be apalled if Reed didn't make it on his first go around because there are not a lot of players in past ten years that had the impact he did on games, one of maybe 4 was his own teammate(Ray Lewis, Dawkins, Jason Taylor, Ware)

Polamalu is one of the 5 greatest safeties in NFL history, and will also likely get elected first ballot because he was one of the most marketable/recognizable  defensive backs ever, and was one of my least favorite players to watch because he was that good.

Suggs legacy is secure.

The voters don't look exclusively at sacks any more and Suggs has the other boxes checked in terms of longevity, a ring, DPOY, and the outstanding 2-way play PFF is now highlighting.

I don't think he's a sure 1st-ballot guy, but he will go.

I have my doubts that he will make the HOF as well.  I just decided to do a quick search to see if I could find the record(s) that Steve was mentioning, so I posted what I found to share with others.

No way Ed Reed is not a first ballot. but Lewis goes in first.

Lott was a corner first and arguably a better corner than safety.

The last safety in was Paul Krause, the all time interception leader, and he waited FOURTEEN years to get in.

There's only seven pure safeties in the HoF.

There's a chance Reed doesn't make it and there's an even better chance that if he does, Polamalu doesn't, or vice versa.

I agree with most of your statements but don't believe Mason ever makes it into the HOF.  Yanda, as great as he is will have a hard time getting in.  When they do go in, it takes them a very long time.  All you need to do is look 30 miles south and see how long it took Russ Grimm, to get into the HOF.

That's what I was thinking as well and I kinda lean more towards Polamalu out of the two only because he played for the Steelers.

When the time comes, the "We don't get no respect" threads will be rampant. lol

I don't know the HoF voters, but I'd imagine they'd be a little more professional than just voting for a Steeler.

Ray goes in first, then Ed gets in when he's eligible, Steve gets in eventually and Suggs might get in one day.

Aside from some of the obvious answers, there's Weddle. If he can finish his career strong with the Ravens and possibly pick up a championship then he has a shot of eventually getting in.

I actually think the HOF might put Reed and Polamalu in during the same year. It would seem like a very fitting thing to do.

Well with the 46 member selection committee being made up by mostly media members, I have a hard time believing they don't favor certain teams. A prime example being Art Modell and all his contributions to the NFL along with negotiating the TV contracts making the NFL billions vs a certain Cleveland beat writer, his disdain for Art and his excessive lobbying to keep Art out of the Hall. Professionalism has little space in that situation. imo

But like you said, there's 46 members. I'm not sure what percentage of the vote they have to receive to actually be considered for a finalist, but I'm sure it's not unanimous.

Plus, when you take a football team from a city, even if it was done the right way, you're going to get a lot of hard feelings.
