I agree, that was a penalty

1. He was out of the pocket.

2. What was the defender to do when he was falling?

If anything, Ben's helmet hit defender's arm

Yeah, but he was not a runner. I think if the QB is still looking to pass and hit in the head that is still a penalty whether he was just outside the pocket. I would be upset if they did not call that for Joe.

That shouldn't even have been a TD... ball hit the ground.

Just so everyone is clear on this...

The ball CAN touch the ground if it does not aid in the process of the catch. I just watched the play and it WAS a catch. He did not bobble the ball or allow it to move upon impact with the ground. He had possession.

4. Protection While Out of Pocket. When the passer goes outside the pocket area and either continues moving with the ball (without attempting to advance the ball as a runner) or throws while on the run, he loses the protection of the one-step rule and the provision regarding low hits, but he remains covered by all other special protections afforded to a passer in the pocket. If a passer outside the pocket stops behind the line and clearly establishes a passing posture, he is covered by all of the special protections.

So, against the Cowboys the Ravens offense MUST WIN that time of possession battle to keep Dak and Zeke off the field?

Terrible to be a defender in 2016, clear as mud in split second plays

I don't see much of this happening.

One thing Zeke does very well, and this will be something the Ravens must contain, is that he bounces outside and gets around the edge so easily. He's got excellent burst and speed and if you allow him to bounce it outside and don't set the edge, you're in trouble. As for Prescott, I'm watching for that now.

What is a one-step rule?

You can only take one step before hitting the QB if the ball has been released. You can be in the process of bringing the second foot down, but it can't hit the ground.

If you're going to be taking two steps, you must try to avoid contact.

Oh ok, that determines late hits. That makes sense. Thanks.

It's honestly pretty amazing that these refs actually get so many calls right on the field in real time without replay.

They have to do some fast processing with their eyes and brains. It really is a difficult job.

Wow... Dolphins-Chargers are at the 5 minute mark of the third quarter while the other two games are at Halftime.

Wow... the AFC West Standings is insane.

Chiefs 7-2 (Wins Tiebreaker over Oakland due to H2H Tiebreaker)

Raiders 7-2(Loses Tiebreaker over KC due to H2H Tiebreaker)

Broncos 7-3

Chargers 4-5(Currently losing 21-17 and could fall to 4-6, or if they win, they will be 5-5)

Chiefs sit as the 2 seed... IF the Seahawks knock off the Patriots, the Chiefs have the tiebreaker over the Patriots meaning they would be the number one seed.

So James Harrison, has beaten Tyron Smith a few times today and got a penalty or 2 drawn. But people were outraged that Stanley( a rookie in his 4th game then)  got beat by him or had a penalty called vs Harrison.  But Tyron Smith an All Pro Tackle also still has some trouble with Harrison. ????.

Just saying people go way overboard here.

Big Ben... SACKED! Now go get some Touchdowns Cowboys. Great return, that should help set up a TD drive.
