The secondary is certainly clicking right now.  Impressive.

Interesting how when the pass rush improves, the secondary improves. Imagine that! But yes, Tavon Young is a stud.

The Browns want the Steeelers not us

That would be AWESOME if the Browns beat the Steelers next week!

Yea we get a win against the hapless Browns but nobody should be celebrating. We are still going to be 6-10 this year. We won't be able to do much as an offense and Kessler will pass all over us . A rough and costly victory tonight for us ! 17-14 Ravens

The good - Tavon, Pierce, Wallace, UP TEMPO offense

The bad - Joe, attempting to run in shotgun formations, Hester

The ugly - Joe, shotgun formations inside the 20, the pass fixated offense

Also good... apparently it's only a high ankle sprain for Alex Lewis.  He'll still miss time, but much better outcome than what it looked at the time.

Maybe Flacco needs to go permanently into hurry up mode.

It seems that gets him into a groove.

Nothing else has worked.

Good:

1) defense is really playing as a unit and with a great sense of fun again. Great to see.

2) Suggs was really explosive off the line all game. Joe Thomas could have been flagged for holding twice in the first half. Suggs appeared for the first time this year to be a dominant edge rusher. Hope this Suggs going forward.

3) I believe we are starting to see the light go on a bit for Perriman. Perriman and  in particular, Wallace need the ball in their hands with a chance to run underneath. This is starting to be a point of emphasis weekly.

4) I liked that we were a different team in the second half. Half time adjustments, in terms of tempo, and protections ultimately had the offense looking the way an NFL offense ought to look.

5) Good to see Joe get some success and the offense find rhythm.

6) Stanley really appeared comfortable pulling and I'm hoping this is a sign that he is on the mend.

Bad:

1) too many predetermined dump off passes underneath

2) that sort of offense for two quarters will get you blown out of the building against even a decent team.

3) Taking points off the board in the red zone. Also gets you beat.

Overall I feel that we can't trust this offense is fixed or rolling..but at least we are offered some opportunity for optimism. And we're in first place.

I admit, I have not read the comments before this post so I'll just share my thoughts as I typically do:

1.)  I like Hue Jackson and I still think that with time and some additional talent, the team can ultimately turn things around.  Maybe not this year but going forward. With that said, I have absolutely no idea what the hell he was thinking pulling Kessler out of the game.  This has nothing to do with McCown's performance either - if he had played well I would still be saying the same thing.  What is the honest reasoning for doing that?  I don't buy his "we needed a spark" comment - the team just isn't playing well overall, period.  Let Kessler play, he's actually not playing THAT bad overall so let him have this season to see what he can do.  The team was also only freaking down 13-7 at that point too - yes, I highly doubt the Browns would have won anyways but still - let him play it out.  Stupid move IMO.

2.)  I'll give the defense some credit because they hung in there as long as they could and while it seems shocking to hear this, it was probably their best overall performance of the season.  They can only do so much with what they got and I hope they can find a way to sign Collins long-term because he looks like he could be a big difference maker and someone to build around.

3.)  Running game, anybody?  They forgot to bring that apparently.

4.)  Mike Wallace is fast - sick fast.  I always thought it was a steal getting him, they need to get him the ball more.  There's really no reason they shouldn't be lighting up some numbers with him and Smith as your 1-2 punch at WR.

5.)  Haden is back to full form IMO.  Overall, he covered very well and made some great plays.  That is at least a positive sign on the defensive side of the ball.

Good game to you all and best of luck the rest of the season.

All good, can always talk up our cases either way.

See what we do against the Cowboys

Kessler (rookie QB) dropped a dime on our defense in the first half, they were leading us going into the break.

No idea why they benched him. If the Browns were going to get a win eeking out a 10-9, 13-9 kind of game would have been one of the more likely scenarios- it wasn't like our offense was setting the world on fire.

anybow I digress - if we stifle the Cowboys I'll start buying into the top 3 defense

I feel like they want to get the 1st overall pick. Why in the world would you pull kessler, who is a rookie and has showed some promise for McCown who is never going to be your franchise qb.

I thought Vladimir Ducasse had a decent first game, any thoughts ?

Thought it was solid.  Had a couple penalties I believe, but one was very ticky tacky in my opinion.  I'd be more concerned with him against a better defensive line, though.

But Ozzie Newsome is terrible at his job and we forum posters are better than he is.

I'm telling you. Give me a Myles Garret type edge rusher and this defense becomes a top 3 unit. I think with Young's emergence as an outside CB, all we need to do is find a slot guy.

Powers has been very, very good these past two games.

I think he's the secret weapon for the end of season, playoff push. Drop a fresh, finally healthy top class pass rusher into a defense thats already clicking and balling out? Takes it to another level. And gives us something that defenses wont have game planned for.

Thats the wishful me talking.

I actually thought both were.

The 1st he got bowled over and as he fell it looked like the DL just fell over him and on top, but from the ref behind it kinda looked like Ducasse may have grabbed and pulled him down with him.

And then the 2nd just looked like a straight pancake to me. Flattened dude.

I can't imagine he'll be too expensive. I'd be surprised if he even got a Wright sized deal.

Would think a 3 year, $9-10M contract would be his range if he keeps it up.  Make it essentially a 2 year deal with low cap numbers and easy to cut in year 3.

Sounds fine to me. Go out and draft a guy in the first or second round (Jalon Tabor or Jourdan Lewis based on projected draft range) and I'd be happy.

Agreed.  Not the trio I was expecting to be holding down the fort at CB, but they're all doing very well together.  I wouldn't want to break that up, but definitely need to add some depth behind them.

I think Jourdan Lewis will be as good as Tavon, if he's there in the 2nd round it's almost a no-brainer.

I also wouldn't hesitate to add someone like maybe Jamal Adams or Evans from Texas A&M if the opportunity were there in the first.

THE GOOD

- Uniforms

-SSS's post game interview with NFL network ( my shovel is bigger than your shovel) Also the pregame Ray Lewis tribute dance.

-Finally throwing to Waller in the redzone, also Perriman getting his first TD which was also an impressive grab.

-Dixon coming alive and showing strong flashes.

-Wallace and Steve continuing to JumpStart our offense and start and extend drives.

-SIZZLE. no explanation necessary. Had a killer game even against future HOF'R Joe Thomas and with a torn Bicep. True raven.

-Entire D line just completely shutting down the game in 2nd half and abolishing any chance of a running game like always. This unit Is beast.

-Tucker ( what's new)

- Key drive in the 4th quarter where the running game finally got going. We milked almost 9 minutes off the clock. We need more of that to put teams away.

-FINALLY a distinctive victory!!! Man it feels good to have 2 wins like that in a span of 4  days.

THE BAD

-despite a 300 yard3 touchdown performance - flacco once again made poor decisions when flustered and those 2 picks after driving down the feild could have been very costly if not bailed out by defense.

-Browns taking out Kessler. Mccown has had success against us but that also means we are more familiar with him. He's 37 years old and obviously not the future. Your 0-9.. Give the youngster a chance to see how he finishes off a close game. He was protecting the ball well and even had the lead after halftime. Hugh said he wasn't going to play musical chairs at qb when Infact that's exactly what he did. Very poor decision.

-once again nothing really from Hester. Could campanaro be activated before Dallas game? I noticed we even put Webb back there with him at one point. If its not obvious by now this guy has nothing left in the tank i just don't know.

-West couldn't really get anything going. Not really a bad game but he had a lot of carries for 60 yards. I just expected more from him.

-something bad happening immediately following something good every single time. Waller gets a td- Lewis goes down. Suggs creates an interception- Joe throws an interception in the endzone failing to capitalize at a key moment in the game. Steve catches a TD - Zuttah I believe gets hurt. Its not just this game- its  become a theme and its almost like we're cursed. Luckily this game our defense just keot getting us more chances and finally we busted out and put them away.

- Another slow start

THE UGLY

- the browns calling a timeout on the first play from scrimmage lol. And then calling another one like two minutes later. I know things happen, but it's just funny BC its the browns and they can't get anything right.

- 0-10

nothing really ugly on our part that I recall, we finally played well in all 3 phased and spread the ball around. really wish I was at this game, looked like a fun one to be at. If our defense continues to play this way and we can somehow defeat Dallas next week the entire league will have no choice but to stand up and take notice. After 2 strong  performances against division opponents- a win against a top team like the cowboys will really solidify this group and do wonders for our confidence. We may have caught fire at just the right time. Yanda coming back will also help,  hopefully followed by a healthy Doom sooner or later.

*just a little side note, wanted to see if anybody else noticed the same thing.. On the third down play in the redzone  right before the snap the camera quickly panned to harbaugh and I read his lips perfectly. You could tell he quickly and nervously kinda under his breath just said " cmon Steve "  and I immediately said watch for Steve sr over the middle- and what do ya know that's exactly what happened. Don't think it was a coincidence and I think the play was designed strictly for him knowing the ball was going his way.  was just wondering if anybody else noticed this? Just a cool little tidbit.

Forgot to mention that in my "bad" category. Those shotgun runs are so freaking predictable. I'm glad we stuck with the run but that's not the way to do it. The runner gets no momentum and got bottled up for a loss or no gain 98% of the time. Cut that mess out.

Also saw a bunch of missed holding calls on them, a few that were pretty egregious. Also thought a few of the ones on us were very ticky tacky - and that's not me being biased.

I just wish we could've broke that 30 point barrier. Thought for sure we had that safety, almost had an easy pick 6 on the tipped ball and then we had 2 chances for a late tucker feild goal (which would've helped me in fantasy:P)  but a penalty backed us up once and then a first down on that reverse ended it and sent us into victory formation. Would've been nice but  I'm definitely not gonna complain.

Good:

- Defense is playing at a high level.

- Regardless of the results, we ran the ball 34 times!!!

- Suggs looked good last night getting after the QB.

- No huddle offense looked nice. Might need to incorporate that a bit more. Get some rhythm going.

- SSS antics, the mannequin stuff, Suggs... We are getting some swag back slowly but surely.

- Back atop the division!!

Not so good:

- First half offense. Dreadful.

- Joe's mind numbing interceptions. Rookie stuff.

- Red zone offense. Can't seem to find a way to punch that ball in.

- Injuries to the offensive line.

- Penalties are still hurting us.
