Ravens still 23rd in Power Rankings

33 posts in this topic

Why don't people respect the Ravens? We are the best team in the division and while I agree the AFC North is a little down, we should still be in the top 15 with everyone getting healthy. Yet we are left out of the top 20 in power rankings like this. Am I crazy or are we being underrated?

You can do what I do.  Pay no attention whatsoever to football media outside of Baltimore.

Power rankings are dumb anyway. Just some guy speculating.

Our offense is pretty bad. That drags the team down. We aren't underated.

Those power rankings are like infomercial, staged blind taste test that 'so-called' experts win or lose jobs on. Based on experience, research and hunch, they have to come up with rankings based on the previous season, draft and new preseason play. Most had us at the bottom tier before the 1st game. When we were 3-0, they panicked and jumped us up to the top ten. They hated that, because if we finish there they lose credibility and somebody else replaces them.

Since we've regained top standing in a tight division (currently under-performing) - all other AFCN rank below us because we've been moved-up 5-7 spots per polling to accommodate for their preseason placement, but no higher. Pittsburgh was top 4 at beginning of season. You don't think that they hate that we won? If they had won they'd be elevated back to the top 10 at least (per their pre-season picks) and they're 'Rock Stars' again.

No worries. They do this with every team, but the funny thing is...if we keep winning they really don't have explanations to why they had us so low in the 1st place - they only point at each other and say...."Who knew?" (See our last Super Bowl Season). The things they do for job security.

I wonder where the 7-9 Seahawks were generally ranked when they won the NFCW a few years ago lol. I can't blame other people for being bearish on the Ravens. The offense is really hard to watch right now, and the defense is good, but lacks a strong edge rush. I don't care if pundits rank us in the 30s, if we just win our games, that's all I care about.

A 95 yard catch and run is flukey? Since when? was the ball tipped and did it just fall into his hands? No. Hilarious how we're ranked below a team we just beat and how the media is excusing Ben for being hurt when Ben even said his knee feels fine. They didn't excuse us for our losses with multiple injuries..

The Steelers being ranked #3 at a 4-4 record with a three game losing streak is HILARIOUS.

Most have us much higher than 20 though.  NFL.com has us 5 up from previous week.

Losing 4 in a roll can give you a bad rep.  If we keep winning(and its wholly possible) we should command some respect.   Especially the Patriots game.

Well, when your offense can only find the end zone 1 time in 11 consecutive quarters of play, that makes you fairly rank!

This team is near the middle of the pack in the NFL. But if they fix their offense to where they score touchdowns instead of field goals and not totally suck in the red zone then they can be a top 10 team.

Just watch the offense play and you'll have your answer.

Until the offense does anything right consistently, the Ravens won't get any respect from outside of Baltimore and they won't deserve any until then

we've been playing like a team ranked 23rd. A good start is beating a media darling like the Steelers, and sitting atop the North, but more has to be done. We were just on a 4 game losing streak.

Anyway, I'd rather be ranked 32nd. Fly me under the radar.

we have 12 turnovers lost on offense.
opposite of that we have a league worst 6 passing TD and  a middle of the pack 5 rushing TD scored.

what exactly are people supposed to respect about the above?

Thats Goodell's clowns. They too biased on our Ravens. They favor Steelers or the Cowboys

I still don't know who is the best team out of us, Pitt, and Cincy. We'll find out during this final stretch of the season.

On paper Pitt with a healthy Ben is probably the most well rounded team. I think our defense is better but when they have Brown and Bell clicking they have a dangerous offense. Our offense has been absolutely abysmal which makes it hard to give us a ringing endorsement in the AFCN race.

I always wonder why people post these threads asking why we don't get respect.   Then I look at their post count and it's usually someone who has barely posted on here....

I know, I know: I just want some hope midweek and this isn't helping.

and went on 3 losing streak?

We have the personnel for at least an average offense, when the OL gets healthy and Steve Smith I expect it to really improve honestly.

I expect the offense to improve too at some point. But, until it does we wont jump up the power rankings.

Theyre supposed to be a weekly snapshot of where teams are right now. And as things stand right now, its tough to rank us anywhere above middle of the pack. Somewhere 15-20ish seems appropriate. We're 4-4, 1 game removed from a 4 game losing streak where we should have probably won at least 3 our of 4 if not all 4.

I mean, now looking back - Oakland's probably a top 5 team, the Redskins and Giants are what, 5-3 each... so the losses dont seem quite as bad as they did at the time... but still. We're just not a very good team right this second. Potentially, sure we can be very good. But you dont get measured on potential in power rankings.

Like others have said I'm fine with it given the offense. I will say though Ben is the most immune to criticism QB I've ever seen, he never catches the same heat others do, easily should of had 4 INTs.

Being at 4-4 is fantastic... Look how many teams are at .500 or within 1 game of .500. A majority of teams right now. The Ravens are right in the middle of everything. If they get healthy they have a chance at a potential play off run but they need to score on offense and give the defense a break.

until our offense puts together a few good performances we belong somewhere in the 20s. our offense is really bad and it looks to be trending downward after losing our starting RG for idk how long and losing the starting LG for probably a good length of time.

and on top of that, we need our defense to not just suddenly disappear once our offense starts playing well, we need all 3 parts of tthe team to play well in the same game for all 4 quarters for more than just 1 week. hell, we havent done it for even one week yet. last week our offense didnt show up til the 2nd half, the week before our offense didnt show up at all and our defense fell apart at the end, call it what you want about forcing the clock to run down, we were playing good coverage for 3 quarters and then suddenly we werent.

we gotta show consistency and SOMETHING on offense for more than one half of a game.

I agree to an extent but the 20's? A division leading team above .500 shouldn't be in the 20's regardless of our offenses struggles. To me -fair is ranking us somewhere right in the middle of the pack, and if we beat Dallas that should catapult us up into the top 12 rather easily IMO.

The Boston Herald ranks Ravens 20th (the only 20's Ranking) huuuummm...Boston

ESPN ranks Ravens 15th

Pro Football Focus ranks Ravens 15th

There slight variations in every poll (14th-16th), but currently we are in the top half of the league. After loses this weekend of teams placed higher currently there will be another shift. If we keep adding to the win column we'll stay on an upward trajectory.

if we beat dallas its safe to figure that were not only fielding half the team anymore. to have our full team play like it did against cleveland, and to have our defense play like it did vs the steelers, and then have our whole team show up for 4 quarters to beat dallas, then yeah we belong top 12 easily. it just hasnt been a consistent showing from anything on our team outside of our run D.

and im optimistic too, im just not sure which team is really ours, the one who played the skins and giants and jets, or the one who beat the steelers and pummeled the browns like nobodies business... this week will show which team we are.

We're all of those teams to some degree and that's been our problem this season imo.  This Ravens team has failed to definitively define who they are on a weekly basis by their helter skelter like gameplay.  We all know who the Cowboys are and they stay true to that identity.  They run the rock with Zeke behind that massive O-line, chew up the clock and dominate the time of possession battle.

Dak does just enough through the air with Dez, Witten and Beasley to keep the chains moving.  Now, that is what our Ravens are up against this week.  Can the Ravens offense get off to a quick and efficient start to match their offense stride for stride?  Can our defense dominate their massive O-line?  Can our pass rush consistently disrupt Dak's flow and rhythm and get a few sacks?  Can our secondary contain Dez?  Can our front 7 neutralize Zeke the Freak?

Like you said....this week will show which team the Ravens are.
