Have we found the next great raven defender?

Really wish we just let these guys play before we start anointing them with with titles.

He has been playing for 8 games now.

And has been probably a top 5 Rookie defender over that span.

And been a highlight of our defense by playing lights out in multiple positions, standing up to high levels of competition, making turnovers, big hits in run support, and sound fundamentals and playing with fire.

This isn't some unfounded thing here. He's playing at a level we haven't seen from rookies on this team aside from guys like mosley, cmac, and suggs. He's playing incredibly well.

hopefully he settles into the role, keeps it up and we don't need to do too much in the draft or free agency

how much are we on the hook for wright & powers - is Arrington still on the roster?

im thinking they're all gone this offseason

jimmy, tavon, slot? Canady, price backups - draft another slot guy

Why cut Wright and powers? They cost very little and they're solid depth.

Why are guys always in such a rush to ship someone out just because they aren't starting caliber.

Why I specifically asked the question - how much are we on the hook for with them.

obviously it's nice to have depth but at what cost

80/20 rule and all that

I've been a big Tavon fan for awhile. I had him in the only mock draft I posted on the forum last year. But calling him a Suggs level impact defender is incredibly premature.

Rookie impact by comparison. Not calling him a suggs caliber player yet, the guy is probably just barely shy of HOF, I'm not that delusional lol.

Ahh gotcha. They aren't costing us much and regardless a big chunk of the cap is there for depth players, specifically the secondary, OL, and DL. I see no reason to get rid of them. If we have starting corners then I wouldn't mind having Wright here for a long time as a 4th cb. People may not like Wright but if he's your 4th corner then you have a very good situation in the secondary.

I would personally like to pump the brakes on Tavon Young.

We've seen a two really strong games (one being a start) in the Browns game (take that with a grain of salt) and the Steelers game and one abysmal game. The other games were solid, but not super memorable or standout games.

We're eight games into his career and he's been a positive, but it's been largely pretty average. I'm really glad he's playing well in spots, but let's not anoint him just yet.

Anyone here remember Marcus Cooper?

Ah, right- Giants, for sure.

I wouldn't say he's been average in the other games though. He's held his own in the slot very well all year, he's been great in run support, he's forced turnovers and been pretty much stifling every player he faces besides the giants game.

Plus, being able to slide out and be a lockdown corner vs the steelers is impressive, especially when he was being targeted because they didn't even look jimmys way but once. Wright and young are the ones getting targeted often, and young isn't giving up many plays at all, Wright is. I think that's a really good indicator.

In the same sense that it's too early to call Perriman a bust, it's too early to anoint Young.

He's been a very good pick, one I think most people on here loved, so I can't say we as fans are at all shocked, but let's tone it down. I'm not even sure if he's been a top 5 rookie corner.

Name 4 rookie corners who have played better :)

Absolutely. However, it is fair to be excited about the possibilities. I mean - think about how hard it is to come into this league and play CB. Jimmy Smith needed significant time to become a starter. Young is being thrown into the fire and has largely done a good job.Given he's a 4th rounder and not a 1st or 2nd, I think that's shaping up to be a score on our part.

Not necessarily the answer to the question posed by this thread, but right now an effective CB opposite Smith is as much as we could hope for given our lack of investment in the position.

And this is where I'm at. I'm just happy to have found a corner that's playing well enough across from Jimmy. He's not lighting the league on fire, but he's holding his own and will hopefully be an answer for the future.

Ramsey, Poole, Hargreaves, and Robinson.

Hargreaves has been playing like crap from what I've seen.

Has he? He had a hot start. Hadn't seen him recently. Must be on a real down swing.

Anyone got a read on Jalen Mills? I know he's been the starter all season long in Phili.

Yep, Hargreaves has been torched in coverage quite a bit.

Robinson goes a couple picks after Henry in the 4th - coulda, shoulda, woulda

from the small sample size, what's people preference young in the slot or outside??

do we look to bring in an outside corner and bump young inside or do we look to bring in another guy to play inside or are we happy with smith, young, powers inside?

hoping that he continues to hold down his current role and CB isn't a huge hole come draft time offseason

I believe Robinson had a DV issue in his past, so that's why he was even there in the fourth. Same for Mills in the seventh.

I say at this point, Powers and Young are doing well enough in their respective roles.

ive never seen anything about dv - failed drug test, arrested being in another students room, poor academics,

thats what nfl scouting says - not everybody's built to say yes sir no sir, long as hes not a complete head case - sometimes i want some dogs like that, get their head right and point them in the right direction, channel their energy - good things can happen, bad things can happen too but i know did dumb Crap when i was young and wasnt a huge fan of school either

Lol, it's correct at least. He used to VG3 in our draft topics.

Robinson may not have had DV, then.

I believe Mills did.

I just know both had off the field issues.

No idea.  same thing with Upshaw.  people don't understand depth.  I don't think even think Powers is signed past this season anyway and Wright was just re-signed.  it's not a bad deal if you ask me either.  The demands to cut people make no sense considering the secondary is almost always suffering injuries.
