[News] With Time To Plan Over Bye, Marty Mornhinweg's Offense Attacks Season's Second Half

39 posts in this topic

All remains to be seen. I'd say, even if they turns things around, they've only got a 20% chance in making the Playoffs.

We talked about it as fans, aa media as everyone for 8 straight weeks. Honestly for 2 straight years, what needs to change is "Commitment to the Run game"

Ravens are 6-19 when Joe passes 40x in a game, and hes averaging 44 passes a game this year. Oh and he has the most passes attempted this year.

So the blueprint is simple get back to "Ravens Smashmouth Football" balance 1:1 ratio 30 runs to 30 passes like in our SB winning years.

No more excuses from Harbaugh and coach speak, about running into brick walls vs tough run defenses etc. No.. no more games of 10,11,12 rush attempts thats failure to commit to running the football. If were not seeing 25 rushes a week going forward. Flacco will continue to be a league leader in pass attempts which will translate to high interception ratio, which will translate to heads rolling at seasons end.

So if harbaugh is worth his salt he'll make dang sure going forward theres a commitment to running the ball

Maybe after Far Below Average Joe puts up another game with a 56% rating, Self Righteous John can fire Marty and bring in, Oh, I don't know, maybe Don Coryell or Joe Gibbs, or maybe Don Shula to be the OC. Maybe Brian Billick. It really doesn't matter with FBAJ at the helm.

hope we see more creativity out of mornhinweg. lets use crockett, chris brown, taliaferro, dixon. lets use the middle of the field, run scissor patterns and quick slants.

We have historically had a better line and even the year we had Kubiak, we utilized the talent we had in the system that best supported our skill set. Last year, but mostly this year, Trestman moved away from the zone run scheme which best suited our faster (not stronger) line and the foot in the ground and go running back style that Forsett did well. Trestman took a year and a half to destroy the successful system Kubiak had in place, and it is going to take more than a bye week to fix it.

This also applies to the dink and dunk approach that Flacco was given since Trestman came and it is clear to see that Joe struggled mightily with that. So between the run game and pass game Trestman screwed with and messed up (which by the way is 100% of the offense) we have completely changed what we do and each change was counter intuitive to what our skillsets are. Trestman came in and said this is how "I" operate and everyone has to change and operate this way as well. Unfortunately, Joe isn't the type of QB who adjusts well to change and Trestmans style did not mesh at all with what the Ravens players do well. Trestman changed the runs scheme Forsett made the pro bowl in and the passing scheme that Flacco played best in.

This isn't going to change in a bye week because so much more goes into this than just play calling. We assembled a team from last training camp through this training camp based on what Trestman said we were going to do. Let us not be so harsh on Marty if in one week he doesn't turn it all around. Granted, if he goes back to what we do well, then the adjustment wont be as harsh but we just can't expect or demand an immediate change.

Very silly comment.

fusuymada, all that Trestman changed tye scheme, skillsets etc sounds good and mostly agreeable.

It has nothing to do with lack of commitment to the run game. Whether Marty or Trestman, everyone knows 6-19 when Joe throws 40 passes. West has been a borderline pro bowl RB on his yrds per carry 4.5, whether backups in or starters we have a good run blocking line. But you gotta run it 25x a game.
Thats how Ravens as a organization win SBs.
Thats something that can change in 1 week. Run game commitment and should be a constant going forward.

If harbaugh doesnt enforce it, Flacco will continue to look bad, throwing too much, and heads will roll at end of season as harbaugh decided to go not make appropriate changes to succeed

who told you that? How could their percentage be that low when they are one game away from first place in our division?

yeah cuz Brian Billick really had a great offense here. His was worse than the one we have now. I think it will help now that our O-line is healthy plus Marty is our new coordinator. We'll just have to see.

I hope Marty watched the 2012 season highlights and how Joe hit up Pitta and Dickson like brady is doing with gronk and big ben will do Sunday! It's the mismatches that will make the difference! Joe gotta step up in the pocket find soft spots or move the pocket and make his throws because looking at games Sunday other QBs are doing it so I expect the same out of ours! Running on 1st down is a waste of time and I want to see Joe get the yards like the other QBS I saw yesterday! The 2nd half of the season MVP gotta be Joe Flacco! PERIOD

Joe's mechanics have been off lately so I hope this "little thing" was corrected over the bye. But what is going to cure the frightened look on Joe's face which have caused him to throw away the ball? Oh, I forgot, the return of a healthy o-line.

This and similar reports are really funny to me, I mean WHY does Mornhinweg need time to see what was going on with the offense.... He has Been with the offensive coaching staff for the last two years as the QB coach How ohhh How could he possible not know what was being run and the abilities of the players involved? Also,,, and this is paramount in my mind, he was a key part of Trestman's team along with Juan Castillo and HAD imput into what was being done and run so, I fail to see how he needs time to see what is happening, silly, just buying time before the judgement .... Not sure we can expect much of a creativity change however he can effect the play calling and run balance WHICH has been the same ( around 50 passes ) in the 2 post Trestman games?????

That's what I've been saying every game. The O line is bad. We all know that. So why don't the coaches game plan with that reality in mind? "Yes, we need to fix our O line issues. So we'll have Joe doing 5-7 step drops, waiting for guys to get down field." It is mind boggling to say the least. Joe's "big arm" is absolutely worthless when he's getting sacked. Just move the freaking chains. Run the ball, and get rid of the ball with short passes.

Because you obviously don't have a clue how an NFL (or any sports team) organization is structured. Position coaches like Castillo & Mornhinweg are rarely involved in the overall game planning (outside of their specific groups). That's like saying that the warehouse manager should know everything the CEO has already done.....

I seriously doubt that. Could this be a case of someone who has made all the money he needs and just isn't driven. May be the thing that's in front of his mind is just to be able to go home to his kids.

Throwing the O line under the bus because Joe can't get it done won't work! Other QBs are getting the same pressure and producing! This Is The NFL!

What does john, a special team coach, know about running a team then? We seen what he could do with Ray now we're seeing what he can do without.

I think if we beat the Steelers, 9-7 wins the division this year. Pittsburgh isn't as strong as people think and are looking cold now. If we beat Pittsburgh no team in the AFCN will be over .500 after the first half of the season they'd either be at or below.

No but what has he done for us lately?! Triple " S " would have a SB but a very very very bad pass against the pats cost him that! A pass that "SHOULD NOT" been thrown and the numbers got worse and worse! Numbers don't Lie people do!

This team has never had an aggressive, go for the throat type of offense. Our failures have always been and will continue to be due to the offensive system we run. Throwing the ball 40 or 50 times doesn't make you aggressive, especially if you're aren't going to use plays that scheme the WR's open.

I just don't see Marty as a OC that's going to change anything with only 9 games remaining. It's not his fault as he has to playcall with Trestman's system.

I've thought for the last several years that we should be going for 1st downs, eating up the clock then start going for 6pts once we get just inside the 25. Trying to throw passes in the 8-10yd range is not Joe's forte' and punching it in from the 5 isn't working either.
