He broke his neck his junior year but ultimately I'm sure he was cleared or he wouldn't of played the following season (which was this last season). I was scared off a bit by his neck issue a bit ago but I don't think there is anything to fear there now.

Just making sure. I'm sure it'll be looked over at the combine, too. Everyone gets their medical checks.

Is his neck thing okay? Don't really watch much college football and only heard about that in the championship game

freak injury and he was cleared to play this year and showed no signs of lingering physically or mentally. Seems fine.

So last year i was on the Jakeem Grant wagon, still upset we didnt take him as he seems to be contributing in the return game down in Miami already.  Anyone see someone similar to him available this year?  Ill go with this guy.

But for Julio Atlanta gave up the kitchen sink to trade up to 5 where they drafted him. I don't think the Ravens have the courage or conviction to bet all the marbles to go get him. Steve Bisciotti maybe does, but Ozzie and John won't ever let him.

They did try to move up for Khalil Mack back in the 2014 draft because they saw him as an elite and immense talent, and though I believe the report of us giving up our entire draft for Ryan is bogus, I do think we definitely tried to move up for him.

I think if needed, this time will be aggressive and jump plenty of spots for a guy they view as elite, if Williams or Davis are one of those guys than I wouldn't be shocked if we go for it because we've been so desperate at elite talent at the WR position for so long and have been dying for a play-maker.

I would honestly rather trade up for Fournette, but i would be on board with all three

Agreed! To me one of Mike Williams, Fournette or Corey Davis are worth trading up for. Any of those guys would suddenly improve our offense.

If that's how you feel than that's fine but give me Williams or Davis over Fournette all day long. I know Fournette is talented but I would much rather have elite talent at WR than RB when it comes to this team. It's so badly needed for this offense and franchise.

Yea i hear ya, i would just rather have that workhorse guy that can develop a running game.  Just looking back on what RR offered i think thats more e valuable than a WR who might touch the ball10 times compared to Fournette/Cook who could have 25 touches a game.

I think an elite receiver would do more than that for this offense than an elite RB. Watching the Falcons against the Patriots, I was such in awe in seeing what Julio was doing on the field. I'm not referring to his catches but rather the attention he drew. He was able to drag the safeties so deep over the middle that it opened up so much for Gabriel, Sanu and Hooper. No RB in the league commands that type of attention.

The Ravens would benefit a lot by forcing teams to shift to single-high safety coverage, and open up more open the middle, especially if they manage to get a TE who can get vertical, that would make this offense explode even without an elite run game. I think you would see Joe produce a season that we've never seen from a Ravens QB.

This is why I'm hoping Perriman blows up. If a guy with that type of size and speed can push coverage down the field, can you imagine what a guy like Pierre Garcon(or Kenny Britt) would do in the middle of the field 1v1? Even Pitta(If he remains) would feast on linebackers.

Very valid points, i just have no faith in our organization scouting WRs.  While i agree with all your points, i just prefer to have the dominant run game than a passing attack.  I did watch the Clemson game, Williams is a beast and i would love to have him.  Whats your thoughts on Davis.

I think Davis will be the better receiver out of the gates but Williams might end up to be the overall better receiver but not by much. Of course you can't predicts guys futures but I think both guys are really good receivers.

I think our scouts need to do better at WR agreed but that also falls on Oz and DeCosta because it's their decision on who to pick.

Yea but dont Oz and DeCosta get the reports from the scouting guys and basically go off their words? I mean, i know there is more to it than that, i know Oz will watch film as well.   I dont really know how that works, always wanted to know in details

Corey Davis is trending up to be considered the #1 WR in this draft class by some pundits including Daniel Jeremiah. He is a small school product I believe but a sure fire day 1 success according to Jeremiah at least.

I do really like all 3 of these guys, but I am very hesitant to trade up in the draft with our success with middle round draft picks...look at who we got in the 4th and 5th rounds last year!  I have a feeling we will be able to get an impact player at 16..whether it is one of these 3 (Fournette, WIlliams, Davis) or a top-tier corner like Wilson, Jones, or Lattimore, etc.

I'm not one to kind to move down as long as there are players we still like on the board.   But our trade back to KC I wasn't happy with, I like having those 4th round picks and I think last year's 4s will be very productive for us.

I'd be shocked if Davis falls to 48 from one injury. The eagles and 49ers both pick before us in the 2nd lol and there's no way both of hem let him go

It's hard to say I mean this time last year Myles Jack was considered a lock for the top 5 and Treadwell was going top 10 while Sheppard would be around for our third and Tunsil was widely seen as the best prospect overall and Bosa had question marks lol.

According to DeCosta the Ravens are looking for: "I think we're looking for a guy that can catch the ball, move the chains and get critical first downs when needed." He added that he wanted someone that could line up all over the field, similar to how SSS did.

Aside from the top couple of guys, Zay Jones and Evan Engram seem to perfectly fit what the Ravens want.

Yeah Eric just practically described a #1 WR's job lol.

If you look at the quote it's so broad. I mean a receivers job is to catch the ball and get first downs......that doesn't tell me anything really. That's like saying "I want a running back who can run and get first downs". I don't read into much of what horitz and decosta say because they're not going to offer much information and give away who were targeting in the draft. It's all smokescreen and mirrors so other NFL teams don't have a clue who we want

Eh yeah but when you talk about the whole package like that it's a bit different.

On 2/2/2017 at 3:18 PM, rmw10 said:

That was how I viewed it as well.  I don't doubt we'll draft a guy as well, but when I was watching that video, my immediate thought was a veteran.

I mentioned it in one of the threads in RT, but I felt that description fit Garcon perfectly.

I think free agent is most likely but both draft pick and free agent are most probable with a high pick investment being most deadly courses of action.

It seems to me like there is much better value in the mid-rounds for WR than there is for any other position in this class. Getting a guy like Ford, Kupp, Jones, or Stewart in the third seems like a better value than Davis or Williams in the first.

Yeah but how many remain mid round guys because we've read this book before. Who's to say NE doesn't take Jones at 32? Belichick has a history of this kinda stuff.

On 2/2/2017 at 11:33 PM, RavensDieHard21 said:

Def hoping Ford is there in the third. He is a shifty, yet savvy route runner that can move the chains for us.outside of M. Williams, there really won't be that much value early for WRs

This reminds me of Sheppard. It'll be interesting and he'll make a nice option if he is.

I'd also add that Perriman is heading towards year 3 of his rookie deal(Yeah, already) and a 5th year option might not be in the works. So you might be looking at him entering his last year of his deal in year 4 with no 1st round option.

I'm curious about this because I know there was some crazy NFL rule about missing time as a rookie and extending a player's rookie contract as a result that, IIRC, affected Jensen drafted in 2013, who is now an RFA this year after missing his 2013 rookie season and is not an UFA.

This is the mindset that I think the team has taken. Which is why we have such a dearth of young talent. Ozzie has always been a value guy, which was great when he had the best strategy of evaluation of talent, however in recent years with the playing field being much more level the value strategy seems to hurt more than it helps. We're so afraid to "overdraft" a guy that we don't take the gamble on talent. Just like last year in round 2, we'll never know if KC was the actual target, but who's to say we didn't miss our guy by trying to get him at his value and getting the extra picks?

You care to expand on this? I don't get the difference compared to previous years.

Seemed more like describing a great possession receiver. Someone like Mason when he was with the team.

I think part of the reason we had such great success was that the strategy Ozzie has used to evaluate prospects over the years hasn't changed. It had been far ahead of the rest of the NFL, however in the past ten years the league has changed how they look at college talent and it has put them on the same level, which means that we no longer get those guys that slip to us that have produced in the past

Right and a possession WR described above can be a #1 WR. Everything he described is pretty much that type of guy. Hell, Mason was a #1 WR here

Ah OK. I was little confused by "level playing field" statement which I consider something out of the teams' control. Question is whether the others really improved that much or we regressed to some degree. I think our scouting has been questionable over last several years (last year seems to have been pretty good) but the major issue is our salary cap management. It's been sub-par for quite a while now, which compounded the problems. Makes me cringe to see us again at the bottom of the league in cap space and NE with 4th largest just after they won another SB.

I've never heard about that, I don't know how that effects Perriman, he was a 1st round pick so I wonder how that will come into play.

what do people think for Josh Reynolds from Texas A + M ?

Well he's got a huge catch radius and he's reallu good at getting the 50/50 ball, so he could really be a guy we target, but I'm wary about his ability to get separation at the next level...

i might be late to the party on mike williams but i just assumed he was the best guy in the class before i really looked into it - then ive delved more into people like corey davis and he looks better and then finally ive actually watched a whole load of tape on mike williams and the more i watched the more i thought corey davis looked like the clear cut better prospect - i mean mike williams uses his physique well (like with yac and boxing out defenders) and is great at leverage and he extends well but he doesn't catch cleanly which makes the length he has less important because he really isnt a natural hands catcher, he only seems to get separation through leverage and some physicality which are obviously great traits to have but he feels quite 1-dimensional and way behind davis in terms of route running and just the different ways of getting open - i'm not worried about the speed per se but he doesnt really break well and he only has one real stem on most of his routes

im being overly critical here because i still think he's one of the clear top 2 guys but the more i watched both him and corey davis the more i thought he was lagging behind davis - am i missing something?
