[News] Late For Work 10/28: Eight Bye Week Thoughts On Steve Bisciotti, Ozzie Newsome And More

68 posts in this topic

Bisciotti made his millions in the personnel business. How ironic that his NFL team suffers in this very area! Personnel analysis at draft time and free agency is becoming more of a spotlight issue as time goes on. We have a great owner that has keen insight into these issues: Personnel and money disbursement.

Two thoughts.

First, I disagree with the mentallity that we aren't going to make a super bowl run so why pick up anyone. My number two plays into it but from the personnel side, we are one game out of the division lead. Yes we had a rough stretch with offensive line hurt, but that looks to change after the bye. The defense has shown if they don't have to be on the field 45 of the 60 minutes of a game, they are quite competitive. If we pick up a legit left tackle and a legit receiver who can create seperation, then we can be a dynamic team. Joe plays best under pressure and he is now, Harbaugh's teams have always played better at the end of the season and into the playoffs. Are we just saying that not halfway into the season and one game out in a VERY weak conference and division we are throwing in the towel. That is not Raven mentallity.

Second, with the cap the way it is, how do we make any moves? We have an overpaid quarterback who the film shows, and by his own admission, isn't playing up to expectations. In the past we have seen Brady do it, Manning do it, Brees do it, they have taken a pay cut to clear cap space to allow the front office room to pick up the pieces they need for the final run at the big dance. Joe gambled and won in 2012. Is he comfortable enough in his position and his pay as the 27th ranked QB in the league? Or does he feel he is better and is willing to acknowledge he can't do it himself and with his pay, the team can't afford the pieces it needs to make him successful. Is he a team guy who acknowledges reality or is he a me guy who is going to get as much as he can until the gravy train dries up (who with his play any not be that much long).

I don't have a problem giving up draft picks, have we been doing that great with them? Especially 5th round and out where we have been cutting 90% of them anyway. I don't have a proble, trading players away if we have you guys there to replace them. What we can't afford to do is to continue to carry players like Dumervil who are just eating up a roster spot who at this time we desperately need to fill.

the owner should look at this team, don't make trades just look at how un talented this team. I like Harbs and I'm a long time Ozzie fan. But its time for a change from top to bottom.

Kamar is the # 4 and possibly the # 5 WR in our lineup and with Campanaro ready to come back- the best thing that Kamar can do for us is provide trat bait to help us in an area of need. 1. SSS 2. Wallace 3. Perriman 4. CMoore and now with Camp ready to return that moves Kamar well down the lineup and that is not even considering that Waller can play both WR and TE. I know they mentioned keeping Kamar incase SSS retires next season but why cant we take another WR in the middle of the draft to replace him (it would be cheaper and he would have a better chance then being our #4 or $ 5 WR).

I really don't think too many teams are very interested in KAMAR...our WR corps is disappointing so far and Kamar is 4th or 5th in BMORE... that don't have me believing that teams are beating down our door trying to get him...

but if a team like the Bills or Jets or Chargers think they can help them make a run... I say take him and let us get something we can use for him bc being 5th in the line up or worse... we are not going to be much out of him with him here?

You're joking right? Aikmen has proven to be better than everyone I highlighted.  Right now, Aiken is the 3rd best WR we have behind SSS and Wallace.

I dont think that was a joke... You can think that Kamar has out played all of them but Perriman is a high draft pick and will be given every chance to succeed (and yes even over Kamar)

C Moore...is also a high draft pick who will play to Joe's strength... allowing us to stretch the field.

Camp.... is a better athlete and a mismatch in the slot that Kamar cant be. While I have my doubts about Campanaro's ability to stay healthy in this league... I think he brings something to the table that Kamar cannot.

I think Waller is even more of a mismatch... While I dont know why he is in the conversation bc he is playing TE>.... I do think Waller can be a giant mismatch....

But I get the point... the point being that with Moore and Perriman being a high investment... Wallace and SSS being our top WRs and Camp and Waller being the players we are looking to for mismatches moving forward...

I am not sure where that leaves Kamar in our offense???????? Which is evidenced by his drastic dropped in numbers this year... suggesting the Ravens see it the same way!

You are the only one who thinks Campanaro is a better athlete than Kamar Aiken.

I hope the Ravens aren't pining there hopes on a WR that didn't even make the 53 man roster

If position coaches aren't cut out and the head coach keep getting guys that aren't cut out then it's time for a new head coach.

Flacco is Harbs guy he will drown with him no matter how he plays terrible. Harbs will not pull him even to win a game where Flacco has time and throws the ball over your head when you're wide open or at your feet. The receivers dropping balls too much,SSS is our best hands guy opposite Pitta,it's sad that Perriman can't be a factor yet,but Wallace has helped a lot if only Joe can consistently get him the ball deep it would be a big boost getting chunk yards and td's more often.

Have to draft players that don't need coaches or anything else but playing football in their life.

I just feel bad for Steve Bisciotti. He's among the most supportive owners in the league and has give free rein to his staff to produce victories. He's given them the money and the support infrastructure to be successful. He's given carte blanche to hire the best coaches in the league no matter the number. He's given the best facilities to players and staff members. He's done far more than one could reasonably expect from an owner. Yet, he's been failed miserably by his staff, his coaches in particular and the players of the Ravens for a couple or 3 yrs in a row. I don't know how much more patience he can exhibit at this time, but it must be wearing pretty thin right about now. If this losing streak continues, he may just clean house mid season.
