[News] Ravens Working On New Ideas For Rushing Attack And Want To See More Of Kenneth Dixon

32 posts in this topic

Don’t expect to see wholesale change to the Ravens’ running game when they come back from the bye week, but they will work on implementing some new ideas and push toward a more balanced run-pass ratio.

That sounds like BS from the coach. Did we change our blocking scheme from when Kubiak was calling the plays and if so why? We will double our output vs
the Steelers. 12 yards on 23 carries.

trestman is somewhere smiling. castillo should have been fired because the o-line play has been sloppy even when all the starters were healthy

We can't have Flacco throwing 40 or 50 times a game bottom line. No wonder his shoulder is sore. Get the run going now. We need to beat the Steelers at home. I sure hope Ravens fans outnumber the Steelers fans in our house. Good luck Ravens!!!

Yeah just fire everyone. That will solve everything.

Yeah, because NFL players and coaches grow on trees. Like you can just run down to the store and buy new ones.

Because that philosophy has worked out so well for the Browns.

i'd vote CASTILLO for special coach of the year in what he's done with a rookie make shift o-line,for years wev'e had one of the best o-lines in football, don't know why people are dissing him?

Harbaugh is quoted in this article saying "but we have to get it going". There is only ONE problem with this statement from Harbaugh, and it's that he does not have a clue how to get it going! Go Ravens!!!!

It could be the play calling however, the O line has to block well and open holes then have our 2ndary blocking down field in order for the RB to get any yards as well. I definitely think our position coaches are suspect here.
The good thing is, we do have some talent on this team. If we can coach better and expect nothing but the best from our players, we'll do better. While the season isn't over by any means, I do not believe we'll go very far, even if we do make the playoffs. We should probably use the rest of this season to get our young guys up to snuff. We have a huge mess with the cap situation and paying folks who aren't even on the team and that's going to hurt us for a couple more years still but we can build a foundation now that we'll benefit from next year. Perriman should be the number one receiver with Kamar at #2 and Wallace #3.
Webb should be keeping the bench warm until his contract is up IMHO. Tavon young should be the #1 CB, Smith #2 (We need more young corners but they're expensive!). Same with our O line. Stanley, Lewis, Hurst. Yanda because he's on his way to retirement next year most likely so play Urshel and Ducasse on 1st and 2nd downs, and so on. Rest the vets and coach the crap out of the rookies until they can hold their own. If they prove they can't, bring up some PS players and do the same until you have a complete list of positions needing to be filled THEN, draft for positions in this next draft and forgo the "BPA" philosophy for a year or two. Might not work out the way I think it would but at least it's a plan for our future. One good thing about this year, I don't think other teams will be sniping our players and coaches after the season is over like used to happen every year! :-)

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. It doesn't matter who the back is if the oline simply can't block and physically move others backwards. They thought it was Forsett. They thought it was Trestman. Wrong conclusions for both it seems! Did the blocking scheme change from the style Kubiak implemented? If so, maybe that's a major symptom and it's possibly too late to relearn or they just too stubborn. Whatever it takes, figure it out.

Yes we did. Trestman ran a power man, gap run scheme - the old school "smashmouth" runs that everyone was crying we should go back to when Kubiak changed it to a zone blocking scheme. There is a reason most teams don't run it anymore - it's not effective. I formation does not work in today's NFL. A power run scheme only works when you have an explosive RB like Zeke or AP not a plodding average back like West or Forsett. Marty likes more of a zone scheme, so I think we'll see some of those changes over the bye week.

You're wrong! Castillo has had to shuffle the O-Line because we are hurt. Finding the right pieces hasn't been easy either, but not all the blame should go to the coaches. Players should be hold responsible as well. We have no swagger. We are not the bully we once were because we don't play smash-mouth football. Plain and simple.

Listen folks: And I know that I am preaching to the choir here. First, 6 touches in 3 games for Dixon is such an insignificant body of work that no conclusion can be drawn from that, obviously. Secondly, if we don't fix the o-line in terms of personnel (including the coach) and scheme, I don't care if you have a backfield of Jim Brown and Barry Sanders, it isn't going to work.

LOL, true they don't grow on trees but, they are usually available at Ozzie's Bargain Outlet. Unfortunately, the shelves are pretty bare.

it was 50/50. The yards gained was straight ahead except when the O-line goes JV league. Ravens get big lineman and expect them to run sideways? How many 300+ guys you see dancing sideways? Urschel & Lewis got beat like a drum.

Lets blame the running since replacing the offensive coordinator did not change anything. Its almost like training camp never existed. THESE 53 ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST. Yea right.

Minimal IMPACT PLAYERS on this team, way to many ROSTER FILLERS.

Enough with the excuses Harbaugh just run the damn ball more. We need to be balanced. You see where dropping Joe back 40+ times get you

start with a commitment to the run. If we commit to being balanced and keep the defense guessing... then we will have more success... but we are so predictable right now! change the playing calling up a little - and commit to being balanced

Castillio has a lot of depth to work with. We really do have two quality OLs.

Wagner, Yanda, Zuttah, A Lewis , Stanley
(Alex Lewis can play T and Yanda can slid to T if needed)

Hurst, Ducasse, Jensen, Urschel
(Jensen can play G or C as can Urschel)

That is more then most teams can say about the quality of their OL. We are not getting the most out of them and the only season we really did was the year that Kubiack took over. Castillo has to answer for that.

As far as losing our identity and no longer being physical. I am with you on that. I think we try to play to much finesse on offense and the bend but don't break (except in the fourth quarter) style has completely emasculated this team.

Take the leash off and let these guys play Ravens football and start getting after teams again!

Oh, now they have "new ideas" after blowing 4 games in a row to bad teams, Another load of crap. The O line didn't do all that bad protecting Flacco. He just stunk up the place. Worst performance of the year. He had time on a lot of those throws and misfired. When your offense scores ZERO points against one of the worst teams in the league, you had better have more than a few "new ideas".

“We believe in the things we’re doing. We just want to do them better, game-plan them better, scheme them better, block them better and all of those sorts of things.” Yeah, keep believing in things that have not worked - brilliant.

It took seven games to realize the run/pass ratio needed to be looked at?
6-10 and a Top !0 Draft pick.

You want Oz to pick another player? Time to his replacement try his hand.

When Kubiak was here the running game was successful, so you mean to tell me there isn't enough tape to replicate it and that the position coaches didn't pay enough attention to duplicate it. Harbaugh and staff is a joke.
