What Do The Steelers Really Bring....

41 posts in this topic

The Steeler luck!
1.Ball ALWAYS bounces in their favor for some reason (See Holmes muffed punt last time we played)
2.Referees ALWAYS are on the steeler's side for obvious reasons
3.I don't like the Steelers lol

Missing Suggs is going to hurt, I would think the smartest thing would be for the Ravens to move Ray Ray outside and let him bring the pressure, he'd probably do a better job than Suggs' backup. The downside of this is that FWP will start taking it up the middle for 5 and 6 yards at a time. Maybe leave Ray in the middle on running downs, and move him outside on passing downs. Not sure who is playing in Sugg's spot, so I don't know if that person could handle moving from outside to the inside.

Also the Steelers have been using trips and four WR's to spread out the secondary, the Ravens will have to stop this somehow. Unfortunately without Rolle, the only player in the ravens secondary that doesn't suck is Reed, but he can't cover the entire field alone. I think this is where the Steelers will have the biggest advantage and he will test your corners early. The Ravens have to get to Ben and get him to the ground. Chasing him out of the pocket just pisses him off and he's alot better on the run, he throws more picks from the pocket than he does on the run.

The only way I see the Ravens having a chance this weekend is to get mad pressure on ben, and forcing turnovers. If the Steelers win the turnover battle, they win.

The refs really don't give us the best of calls either.... James Harrison gets held a ton but, no matter how obvious it is still a no call from them. Besides every team gets lucky and as the saying goes its better to be lucky than good.

Hmm..interesting analysis. First of all, missing Suggs will be something we'll have to deal with. Having a backup who already has above two sacks and two safeties on the year probably makes missing Suggs hurt less. Second of all, your analysis of our secondary isn't up to par, as Fabian Washington handled Santonio Holmes quite nicely..hate to break it to you like that, but facts are facts. Fabs held Holmes to next to nothing in our last meeting. Saying that we have no one but Reed is just flat out wrong. I do agree that winning the turnover battle is key, but then, even the sports guys get that call right.

Once again, sorry for the double post. James Harrison gets held? Really? Because Trevor Pryce's whole career has been nothing but getting held. And, in fact, any quality defensive end can probably make a case for himself regarding non holding calls. Is that really something that the Steelers bring that the Ravens can't handle? No, it's not. And no matter what team wins, sir, I can agree with you about the luck factor.

seriously? still talking about the refs?

Well Bill Corollo or whatever was Pro-Titans and called the Suggs phantom penalty but he doesn't seem to favor Steelers and I don't think he'd make another really bad call under the understanding that he already is under the microscope from the first time he officiated.

My point was that we will run the spread offense with Ward, Holmes, Washington, Miller and Parker/Moore coming out of the backfield. You can take your pick with Reed/Washington covering two of them, but that leaves you with Ivy, Walker, and Leonard to cover the rest. It will be about creating mismatches against your secondary. If Ben gets a few seconds back there (which I think he will without Suggs), he will find the weaknesses. If the Ravens switch to a zone when they get burned playing man, that will help Ben even more, because he'll start throwing short passes between the zones.

That's why we need to establish pressure on Big Ben right off the back. Try to limit the spread offense, this is what happened in our second game. Steelers game plan was to throw quick short passes to eliminate the pressure.

I expect us to bring crazy mad blitzes during the Steelers first drive. Just so we can establish, that we will get to the QB.

I hope you're right, PuRock. I do not pretend to be a know it all of defensive schemes. I just hope Rex and Co. can bring it hard enough within the first few minutes, and give Ben some pause, something to think about. Like Damon said, even if we have to hit him and get a flag, something to get him thinking, 'Dam.n, they are trying to hurt me,'.
