And if Pees does not trust the players to do that , well I guess we just won't win.

Jimmy Smith is not the only one who can play press coverage. it only take a second or two on third down. I mean just get in front of them and with in five yard press them.

If only it was that simple.

Haden would be nice, him and Jimmy would be a good 1-2 combo at corner with Webb and Weddle taking care of things at Safety. Then we can cut Wright and improve our secondary.

No way Haden is getting traded within the division

Im not even sure Haden is consistent enough or healthy enough to give up a decent pick.

I think you ment a few minutes and with the way out pass rush has been playing that still wouldnt help..

Two names on the market are SHELDON RICHARDSON and JOE HADEN.

I feel like our organization would not welcome Richardson due to his off-season shenanigans. Pretty sure Steve gets genuinely embarrassed when players do dumb things like that. I mean, it's possible, but I think we would value him less than other teams because of his issues, whereas a team like NE, Cincinnati, Oakland, etc. probably wouldn't care in the slightest.

Haden really has been kind of overrated lately. Lots of injuries, and he's just not the shut-down corner people believe him to be.

I can only remember the single arrest. Where there any other?

Are you seriously trying to suggest that press coverage is not the answer to every defensive problem? Common sense man! It's common knowledge that sending 6-7 man rushes and playing press coverage solves everything. And when things get tough, throw in some "Raven Football" and cheer for other teammates loudly.

If it's so simple, why doesn't everyone do it? If it's so simple and so clearly the right answer, why aren't you in the NFL, where other great defensive minds are forgetting this simple key to success?

Browns got 8 games of Jamie Collins for comp 3rd. That's a headscratcher.

Obviously they will try to resign him.

It's an extremely good move on their part and I'm jealous the Ravens didn't make it.

The Browns have over $50M in cap space and can easily franchise tag him if negotiations don't go well. If he leaves, it becomes a fourth round comp and the Browns have the rights to his comp pick.

Sashi Brown is pulling some damn good moves in Cleveland.

dude..this is our FO here..we don't do anything flashy and if we do he has to be 30 or above..no one in their primes are allowed to join us if they are pro bowl/all pros.

We'll sign jamie collins in around 4-5 years :)

This is eric de costa here. We value our picks. There is no way we'd trade a 3rd rounder. We got marshal yanda in the 3rd round almost 10 years ago. Why on earth would we want Jamie Collins here when theres a 1% chance we'd get an all pro player in the 3rd round?

I find it odd the Patriots even traded Collins. It's almost suspicious. Collins was arguably their best defensive player.

He apparently wasn't going to resign in all likelihood. They can't pay him the type of money he wants.

I was immediately suspicious.  NE would do something like this just to help the Browns beat us next week.

look..if we lose enough we might be able to get myles garret. The browns should beat us and i think they could win another 2. With a bit of luck we wont end up with a pointless 6-10 season and will lose all our games and really have a revolution.

This is not true. It doesn't happen often but  we traded a 3rd and 4th for Boldin.

Yes, because he was 30 and we love our old guys. We want to sneak under the radar and appear smart..we want to look like we've found a guy that people thought wasn't the player he once was. If we were to have signed boldin in 2007 people wouldn't have given us much credit as there were no doubts. Same with steve smith sr. We even waited until he was 35 when we could have signed him in 2011.

I get that but you are the Patriots and are looking like favorites to go far this year as Super Bowl contenders. You traded Jones and now Collins? It's suspicious to me. I like Sheard and all but I wouldn't have made that move.

Man l would love to have these two on our team or least one (maybe Haden). Get rid of Webb and that can replace his cap with Haden. Seattle has sign Earl Thomas, Kam Chanceller, Russell Wilson, Michael Bennett, Richard Sherman, Bobby Wagner, etc to big load contracts and they still manage to keep them in their cap. Why can't we? The Ravens cap is a mess. They don't manage it well if the Seahwaks can keep there good players.

Seattle is just now starting to sign their star players... lets revisit their cap situation in 3-5 years when these guys are requiring their 2nd big pay outs, and theyve got a cpl up and coming players to sign on their first big deal.

It's when you have to start making those decisions, who to keep and who to let go, and when 1 or 2 of those deals dont work out bc a guy gets seriously injured or something off the field that things get crazy.

I love how people like to attack our FO and use a team like Seattle, or used to use Cinci as the examples of how we "should" be doing things. Funny - now we're seeing Cinci fall off because they finally had to start picking and choosing, and good young players left that they just couldnt keep. And some high priced guys are injured, suspended, or not playing well.

Its just plain hard to sustain success in this league. If youve got a very good QB on a rookie deal you can do it for a while. Or, if youve got a Tom Brady who can keep one side of the ball playing at a high level without too much surrounding help... then ok. But outside of having the greatest QB ever, or having all your star players on their rookie deals - its just darn near impossible.

Carolina sustained for a year, and only really lost 1 guy. Theyve got even more hard decisions coming their way. Seatlles a year or two away from facing the hard facts. Denver's a year or two away from having to off load half their roster. We're 3-4 years beyond where Seattle, Cinci, and Denver are in their "contender" windows.

Compare us now to where those guys will be in that amount of time -- and if theyre still expertly navigating the cap and filling in with stud FA signings, and bringing up stud draft picks every year - ok then. You win. But until then, its just not an appropriate comparison.

I only think Collins is a questionable move because Demario Davis just got a big deal from them and Kirskey hasnt been too bad. I get that the Browns can resign him, but Im not sure LB was the biggest problem on that dumpster fire.

Might as well get something out of him while they can.

And I trust no one more than BB to get everything he can out of his defensive guys.

He brings a pass rush to a team that ranks int he bottom half of the league in sacks.

Plus, he's one of the premiere linebackers in the game. I think he kinda gets lost in the shuffle of Kuechly or Miller, but he's a top 5 LB in himself.

Collins didnt play much against the Bills, so it looks like in hindsight this was brewing behind the scenes.

I love how some are using this (the Browns aggressively acquiring him) as a knock on our FO - why arent we like them - while BB, the genius, is the one refusing to pay him and accepted a 3rd round pick for an all pro caliber player.... which is more in line with how we operate.

So, youre mad we dont operate like the 0-7 or 0-8, annually abysmal Browns, and do operate like the yearly contenders, 4 time recent SB champion Patriots?

Yes, thats a sweeping statement... and sure Id love a player like that here. But he's about to be paid ridiculous money. Throwing a 3rd round pick that could be an impact player for peanuts over 5 years, for potentially an 8 game rental is not good business. For the Browns, it is, because they at least can control him for one more year with the Tag since they have the space... but this wouldnt be a great move for us bc we almost definitely couldnt retain him next year.
