[News] Late For Work 10/18: Joe Flacco Playing 'Average;' Potential Return Of Former Ravens Reciever

104 posts in this topic

Good grief! Average? Seriously? If that is average, I would hate to see what Below Average is. He has played terrible. Not all his fault, but he is supposed to be the leader of the offense. He should be picking everyone else up but he is not. Their poor play is a direct result of them having no faith in him, no matter what is written.
Oh, yeah, haven't you heard? The Ravens number one draft choice IS the Odell Beckham. Perriman this and Perriman that. As a number one, he SHOULD be what Beckham is but he couldn't carry Beckham's shoes. The Ravens, for some crazy reason, were so enamored with Perriman that they ignored all the warning signs that he was nothing more than a mediocre receiver. OH he is so fast! Really? Then how come he can't get behind any cornerbacks?

From Florio at PFT The Ravens rank = "19. Ravens (3-3; No. 13): They’re performing well despite plenty of injuries, but the injuries are doing just enough to keep them from winning."

On that pass to Wallace, Wallace can take the blame, because he stopped in his route. However, if you look at the coverage, there was a window in that zone. Flacco overthrew him because he was trying to lead him, and Wallace appeared to stop as if he was supposed to sit in that zone, catch it, get out of bounds. Regardless, it is a fact that Flacco has been awful. As can be shown by the stats above, with time in the pocket, he's actually worse. So the o line excuses are all used up.

Also, other than the 2012 SB run, when has Flacco EVER been consistent? In 9 years, it has been pretty much the same thing - sometimes he's amazing, but most of the time he's average, or below average. With that said, it's not like he's dispensable - starting QBs, even average ones, are not easily replaced. But if we lose to the nasty Jets, then it's time to look at QBs in the draft. Flacco has shown repeatedly who he is. That is not going to change. He's not going to wake up and suddenly become great after 9 years.

And those "elite" t-shirts...um...LOL

Perriman is just getting his feet wet, he's played 5 games. I remember back in 2013 people were down on Osemele saying he can't play Right Tackle, hes always hurt, hes got a bad back, well that worked out.

And, Perriman has been under targeted if we want to get him hot.

Remember that long pass early in the game, to Perriman? That was a jump ball, in double coverage, to a guy he has not shown he's got good hands. Also, on that same play, Wallace was WIDE OPEN on the opposite side. If Flacco actually saw that, it would've been 6. But remember, it's Flacco. He doesn't see much at all.

Ravens Searching For Playmaker Like Odell Beckham Jr.

One of the things the Ravens’ struggling but improving offense could use right now is a playmaker.

CSNMidAtlantic.com’s Clifton Brown says to look no further than the Ravens’ opponent last week to see what a true playmaker looks like.

“The Ravens need more of their playmakers stepping up the way Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. stepped up for the Giants on Sunday,” he wrote. “Consider that Beckham had 211 yards receiving in the second half Sunday. … Ravens wide receiver Breshad Perrimanicon-article-link.gif has 172 yards receiving the entire season.”

very intereting. Looks a lot like my post last week. I guess Sarah agreed with me.

☕️️☕️️☕️️☕️️☕️️☕️️☕️️☕️️

Odell Beckam didn't step up, Jimmy Smith got hurt. The defense didn't step up either one sack. Also, Weddle running into to Young was awful.

everybodys singling out the offense and up to sunday rightfully so and i'm not the biggest FLACCO fan,but any other game this year 23 points would of probably won the game, the defense was hurt in key positions so they had a bad game, there was improvment in the play calling just the stupid penalties as useual.if we get most of our key players back we will win some games and get on a roll.if we fire HARBAUGH who do you replace him with? he's said it's the players not the coaching and iv'e always known him to be honest with the fans and himself.

problem is his contract is guaranteed until 2020. we could release him in 2020 but that would leave us with $8 mill in dead money. pray that he gets better. but if the offense struggles after the bye than mallett should be given a few starts. joe is not tradeable with his contract.

pees can be replaced with frazier at anytime this season.  go with pagano, gus bradley or todd bowles after the season. pagano will probably get canned soon so i would hire him as the special assistant to the special assistant if you know what i mean.

The talent isn't there for him to pick up!! He rely's on #88 to much, you can tell when he overthrew Wallace that Wallace wasn't even expecting the ball bc he knows Flacco rely's on Pitta too much or the check down. That ball should have been a screen pass from the snap. Wallace also didn't do any favors for the offense when we were at the 5 yard line and he ran a 3 yard out, why didn't he run that route over the goal line into the endzone????

Yup Flacco needs to step it up. Either he is healthy enough to be out there playing or step aside until you are. No excuses for poor play. You are not being paid to be average. Where is the grit and determination since the super bowl season? Don't see enough determination out Joe yet this season. Command the offense, instead of run it. He is a seasoned vet and looks rattled too often.

I'd like to see Camp back :) I hope he just stays healthy. He has done some exciting burst out plays so I'd like to see him on the field again. We do need a returner even just as back up and Camp was working at that...said it's his favorite position. So much of football is waiting...waiting for some players to get healthy again, waiting for others to fix mistakes, and waiting for Sunday when it's just Tuesday...

What if the reason we lose is because of the defense?

Definitely a possibility. However, given the 6 game sample we have, and with last the exception of the last game, the D has not been part of the problem. In fact, they've been the reason the Ravens stayed in the game. But that well will run dry, eventually.

Harbaugh keeps saying that those players who aren't stepping up, they'll be replaced. With who? There's no one out there that's going to magically fix our woes. Should Mallett get the nod now? Suggs gets called for off sides every game, I imagine he has to be one of the guys he's talking about too and who do you replace him with? Webb played one good game and the rest, he hasn't been seen. Jimmy Smith was finally having a good game but then got hurt. I don't see anyone who is going to do any better but I also guess the Practice squad couldn't do much worse. How about Keanu Reeves and his replacement players :-)

when you bring in retreads like Campanaro and Jackson it shows that this team is headed no where. Its early but i believe the question is whether Harbs will last the whole year. Gm Newsome also should be on shaky ground.

Agree! What is Campanaro doing back here except as a camp body. He didn't make the team. Asa is coming back as a camp body.

Flacco is mediocre. If you don't believe me look at his stats. Numbers don't lie. It's like looking at a report card with F's and saying believe me I'm an honor student. I believe that the Ravens can fix every position, but as long as Flacco is the QB we will struggle to win games.

For all the heartbreak over Flacco, where would this team be with this o-line and defensive secondary and Aaron Rogers behind center?

3-3

Wallace dropped balls on two game-ending drives. Think he catches those if Rogers puts the spin on the ball? Or is it Flacco's fault he dropped them. Perriman drops two or three per game. Flacco's fault? If you eliminate the drops, particularly on 3rd down or when the game is one the line, we're 5-1.

And no one is talking about Flacco.

This is not to say drops are the only problem, but you can't overlook them. Just as you can't continue to play from 2nd and 20 and expect the QB to continually bail out the holding calls. 2nd and 20 and the D is chomping at the bit at the snap.

The Giants played 7 in the box all game long. Seems like all of our offensive plays take a long time to develop; 5-step drops and 40 yard bombs can't happen with three defenders in the backfield every play.

It's a myriad of problems. On field talent, sideline coaching, and injuries (toughness?) We're a 5 win team; there's no getting around that.

Those passes you are talking about that Wallace dropped were poorly thrown away from him in the middle of the field. In the game against the Redskins, he was hit so hard because he had to lay out in the middle of the field that he suffered rib injury. The same type of deal in the Giants game except that the ball placement in that Giants game was even worse that he couldn't catch it. Look at the film.

You are comparing Flacco to Rodgers ? Um, Lets see, Rodgers makes most of his plays outside of the pocket, extends plays and has pretty reliable aim. Flacco on the other hand is getting a lot like Boller in that i mean he has been hit so many times he almost frets to get rid of the ball and his accuracy is taking a hit because of that. Wait, that is no excuse, Rodgers led the league in taking hits for a few years straight. Please do not compare Flacco to Rodgers, not even on the same level.

Sure, Joe has not looked good this year. However anyone blaming him is out of their mind. All these stats based articles are a great way to disprove why stats alone are terrible indicators.

It's the O-line which wasn't very good to start with (two rookies starting on the left which is INSANE) and is now in shambles, the center being the stable piece who was the worst performing member of the starting line. This leads to Joe getting hit or running for his life. No wonder his is anxious to throw, the same thing happens when Rogers or Brady or anyone does not have a good line and is getting hit constantly. Plus the new RB core is worse at protection now and is untrustworthy.

Also, Flacco has consistently delivered good balls and the receivers drop them. Perriman, Morre and Wallace are all guilty of dropping easy catches and game winning catches, mostly on buddy pass like balls. You can't win if you deliver the perfect pass on the perfectly called play and the receiver drops it.

Flacco still had the team in position and drove them down the field with a chance to win, again.

Also, he wasn't the one who called on him to throw it 48 times this past game, he can only do what he is told, which is exactly what he does.

Also, Flacco is not responsible for 200+ yards and 2 TD to OBJ with the stupid coverage that Pees dials up.

No one wants to say it but this game was lost due to injuries. 3 starting O Linemen out, our most sure handed SSS is out, on the Defense CJ Mosley out, Jimmy Smith went out (OBJ was nothing until Jimmy went down), and then two more corners were lost. Now Suggs is gone, remember last year when Suggs was lost? How did that go. We can't replace Yanda, Stanley, Suggs or Jimmy, no one on the roster can do that.

The only wonder people should be thinking is how on Earth did Joe keep us in that game until the final drive. This is what elite players do, they give you the chance to win every time, they don't guarantee it every time.

Love your comments. You are one of the few fans that make sense.

That's rediculous we r talking about A 9 year super bowl mvp. Who Ray gave the throne to this team. So eyes are definitely on him ?and he has yet to do the study in the film room that Ray and Ed did , that's why they were true elite leaders that made everyone around them better Do to there study football iq and passion for the game. I never would doubt flacco. He has proved he can be elite at times in the past.with all the experience one has I would like to see better accuracy communication with the offense during pre snap reads, make proper adjustments put your offense in position to succeed. The defense has given flacco chance after chance for years to date and over all he did fair. Yea he gave us A chance to win every game lol that's A dabateable argument. The proof is in the results. Still a long season ahead to show and prove. It's 50/50 the rest to be determined.

Not going to happen. We fans are in for another long season and ithis losing is going to last a long time with these draft picks. We're slowly becoming Cleveland. Ravens barley beat them lately. Same problems, same coaches, different players.

I agree with everything but at 9 years Flacco is what he is. We've all been saying the same things the past few years and he's yet to do them. He does need an actual line though no matter how open receivers are, the panthers have proved that.
