This tweet by @PFF_Gordon sums it up perfectly:

Odell Beckham Jr. yesterday:

a 66 yard rec. v T. Young,

a 75 yard rec. v W Davis,

a 43 yard rec. v S. Wright.

Against J. Smith? 1 rec, 6yds

And the one person that isn't mentioned there is Webb. What is he doing? He's certainly not backing up these CB's. The guy has 1 pass defensed and maybe a dozen or so tackles. Are we getting our monies worth out of his play? Webb, the free safety, the last line of defense. I'm lol.

Webb won't be mentioned in that tweet since it's a comparison of man coverage on Odell and no smart team is going to put a safety on him in man.  Not saying I disagree with the rest, just saying

Thanks. I understand that he was comparing man coverage on Odell and I know that Webb wouldn't cover him in man. When we're in man/ single high, he should be involved on those plays mentioned and he wasn't is my point.

Yea his value certainly showed against the Giants.

And it's not just the work he did on Odell in 1on1 situations. It's the fact that the entire secondary plays differently when he's in. The safeties can help out elsewhere, feeling comfortable that Jimmy's got his side locked down.

he gives up the occasional come back and underneath type route, but he's just tough to beat deep. He's got the speed and wingspan to close space in a flash.

And it just showed that once he went out, the entire field opened up for the Giants. Our LB's and secondary had to cover sideline to sideline and vertically... and we got punished.

We need Jimmy and CJ back. And we need Stanley and Yanda back.

If we get those 4 we're in business.

EXACTLY

We need Jimmy today if he can shut Dez down we should be in great shape. My biggest question is who is on Witten Weddle/Webb or CJ/Orr I believe he is the wildcard. Zeke is a beast but I love our run D, but Jimmy is the key to the game.

So underrated. Feel like he will never get the recognition he deserves.

That's how fans are....will always be guys like Jimmy and Flacco, who are among the best at what they do, but fans take them for granted and don't appreciate them.

Jimmy is absolutely a "shutdown" CB. How many more times does he have to prove it? Doesn't matter, nobody will ever acknowledge it lol

You keep that Flacco crap out of my Jimmy sanctuary.  This thread has yet to be tainted.

Damn. He's not playing. This is going to be a tough one without him and Lewis.

My optimism dropped when I saw he was doubtful.  Tough loss cause I thought the defense was going to do really well, but Dez might have one of those games now.  Hoping the secondary steps up in his absence.

I think this whole "Jimmy isn't that good" myth was debunked a long time ago. Really no valid argument in support of that myth any longer.

My friends excuse for the hate is jimmy drops to many picks. Well while I agree he doesn't have a lot of picks in his career stats dont always tell the full story. If a corner is consistently only giving up only 3 catches for 30 yards to elite receivers on average then that's enough said. Not to mention the giants game when obj went off for 200 yards when jimmy left but did absolutely nothing when jimmy was out there says it all. And the Dallas game helped prove it as well. Jimmy is WAY underrated by fans and media alike. Pretty sad. Probably no probowl for lack of recognition.

You should ask your friends if they ever saw Chris McAlister play. He was Jimmy Smith v_1.0, and had a near HOF career

I used to hound on Jimmy a lot, but seeing how our secondary plays without him, I now have a lot of appreciation for the man. I just wish the injury bug would stop biting him.

Yeah Jimmy healthy is one of the better CBs in the NFL, the problem is he has been a bit injury prone the past couple years like pretty much the entire team.

Tavon is a great tackler and a strong #2, but as a rookie, he's not ready to guard #1 receivers just yet. Dez and Odell both had their way with him.

huge fan of jimmy, I was hoping philly would not draft him so we could

philly drafted that lineman and he is out the league,

jimmy had a slow start and came on

that's our dude . but he has to take care of his body if he isn't on the

field when it counts then,

that game wasn't on jimmy but it was our offense that drop the ball AGAIN,,

the defense is good as long as everybody is there,

our offense,,,

So Tavon sucks now?

Tavon is promising but to say he is good as of right now would be incorrect.

I agree.  Not to mention with his size, he is never going to be a good matchup vs. the bigger receivers like Dez.  In my opinion, he is doing a phenomenal job being forced into action on the outside.  Where he really excels is in the slot, but right now he has proven to be our best option other than Jimmy on the outside.  Hopefully in future years, Jimmy is healthy and we can find someone better to man the outside and I think Tavon could be a stud covering slot receivers.

What's up with Jimmy's back? Back spasm??

I hope he doesn't have back spasm like Gaithers did in awhile back which ended his career.........

Jimmy is our best cover corner but is of no help when he can't make it to the field. Just seems like he is always nicked.

Just got the notification. Jimmy is doubtful against Cincy. Thank the lawd AJ ain't playing, but get ready for Tyler Boyd to look like prime Randy Moss.

We need to draft another good CB. Jimmy's great when he plays but he's not too reliable, plus having our #2 CB be 5'9 isn't acceptable in the modern NFL. A Jimmy Smith, Sidney Jones, Tavon Young CB core would be elite.

Man I hope Jalen Tabor falls to us. We need some swagger in the secondary.

More likely would be LaFell. Boyd plays out of the slot primarily.
