Merged...Positive Perspective for 2017

185 posts in this topic

I haven't read most of the new posts on this board since yesterday's loss, but I've read enough to know that people are a little panicked about the rest of the season.

Obviously, I think this team has A LOT of problems that need to be addressed, but I think there's a little reason for optimism.

1.  We're still only 1 game behind Pittsburgh for the lead in the division and they play New England next week (likely without Ben Roethlisberger).  Considering we face the Jets next week, there's a decent chance we go into our Bye week tied for first in the division with a chance to take control of our season if we beat the Steelers.  Luckily, the Bengals seem to be struggling a bit this year as well and their schedule is pretty tough.

2.  This team had a LOT of injuries last year and mostly less-serious injuries so far this season. Some of the players are still coming back and getting into form, and a lot of our players are young.  I think most of us predicted for these reasons that this team would be better in the later half of the year than the first half, although most of us got our hopes up when we started 3-0.  I think specifically Joe is still uncomfortable and uncertain with his knee, but there are reasons to believe the offensive line, Joe and our receivers will all be better after a few weeks under Mornhinweg

I think we all know that a bit of good fortune will be necessary to keep this season on track, but there are still reasons to be hopeful.

Thank you.

Big Ben is out against NE. Almost a sure fire loss for Pitt. If we beat the Jets, we're tied in 1st.

Then its a race to the finish. We are right in this. Why panic the second someone gets a 1 foot lead on you in the race. Stay calm, stay the course, and out kick em.

Just a "heads up" to those who think they need to come into this thread to "keep it real", take your negativity to the hundred + other threads already open.  Positivity also deserves a thread.

The biggest positive I gained from this past Sunday in particular -- we had no business coming this close to eeking out a win on the road, considering all the talent we were missing before the game, and then lost during the game. Even at our weakest, we showed that we can still win. That can only bode well for us.

The Steeler's have a tough three game stretch coming up (vs Pats, at Ravens, vs Cowboys). With their defense the way it is and Big Ben missing time, they could lose all three of those. If the Ravens take care of business we can be the division leader at the 9 week point, which is huge.

I tend to see the glass half full, but due to the injuries I had a feeling it would be a loss.  That and the uncertainty surrounding a new offensive coordinator, who in my opinion did an excellent job of spreading the ball around and keeping it balanced.  I see the Ravens as a good team that can do some damage if the right players get healthy.

Love the Ravens!  Totally proud of how they played this weekend.

As bad as the offense has played they have  found a way to get the lead close to the end of all three of our losses. And I think if Siz and Jimmy don't go down yesterday we come home with the W. The whole team played with a lot of heart, just made some costly mistakes.

The way pitt and cinci are going it's not a stretch to think 10-6 or even 9-7 could win the division.  Hopefully we somehow get the win next week and get healthy and fix things over the bye. No reason to think we can't still get to the tournament.

We can hang with any team in the league even with half our starters down. We proved that. Its all about getting healthy and getting hot at the right time. The end of the schedule is tough....but these next 4 weeks bode very well for us including the Steelers schedule- bens injury, and our bye week. If we can get through this next month and take charge of the north and then get hot- anything can happen. Don't underestimate the energy of suggs and SSS. We've seen how emotion can fuel a historic postseason run with ray-  let's see if we can make it happen again.

If the Steelers loose, and we win, we will face them after the bye tied for first.

That would make that game huge and quite significant.  Since it always is a great game, I wonder if it will flex up.

Without a doubt. That will be the game.

This is great for a change. Kudos to the OP. Hope the Mods will keep the trolls at bay.

I feel this game with the Jets is very important to us. First, it's an AFC game and we need to get as many of those that we can. Second, a win would keep us in contention within our division and a Steeler loss would put us tied at the top. I expect the Bengals (at home) to beat the Browns and we can remain a game in front of them with a win.

Lets just get healthy and find a way to take this one.

We try, but the constant feeding of them makes our job almost impossible.  In fact, I've requested a warning for Troll Baiting/Feeding. :D

Yessssss! Fresh air!!! A very needed space in all the media static. Thanks.

There's little opportunity to view your team from a broader scoop instead of week to week in a microwave, social media minute - knee jerk ultra-reality. However, when looking at the game's history and launch of the Ravens football in particular (still one of the youngest franchises) you'll find that many fan bases would trade with us tomorrow if they could have 1/2 the success of this franchise. This includes:

1976 - Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers

1995 - Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars

1997 - Baltimore Ravens

Name one with 2 Super Bowl wins, name one with more playoff wins in the decade and name one wearing 'Black and Purple'...okay.

I'll still be a fan no matter what happens in the next minute.

I just can't wait to see what the run game looks like when the starting oline returns. If West can turn those 1-2 yard gains into 3-4 yard gains with THIS oline what happens when the starters come back?

The Giants aren't world beaters and relying on other teams to fail doesn't make our team a success.

The positive is Tucker is money.  If only we got to see him a few more times.  Credit to West as well.

But flacco is mediocre and Marty is no better than trestman!

What's even more damning for the Big Ben's injury is this, "Since the 2009 season, the Steelers have 14 losses against teams that are a combined 25-87". "In 2014, they were 0-3 against Teams with 0-3 record." Without Big Ben, they might lose some games against weak competition.

They got NE which is an L, and I personally think we're going to take the win against them as well. That could dig to 4-4 with Dallas right after. A 4-5 record would be devastating for them as they have not had a 12 win season since 2011-2012 season. Not to mention they have Cincinnati, Buffalo and then the Ravens right after. This injury might have screwed them worse than the latest injury bug that bit us.

Positives: We have 2 undrafted players killing it on defense in Orr and Pierce. Plus I fully expect Jimmy to play next week against a struggling jets offense. Say what you want about our offense but the Jets may actually be worse. Our defense should have fun against them.

Definitely not giving up on this season. Once we get CJ, Smitty, Yanda, and Stanley back we'll be in significantly better position.

If you look around the NFL there are very few consistent teams thus far. Super talented teams like Carolina, Cincy, Pitt, Green Bay have all dropped very winnable games. Can't remember a year with so much sloppy play right out of the gate. I'm not holding by breathe but there's still plenty of football to be played. Let's see what these Ravens got now that the pressure is on.

Fitzpatrick has been named the starter. There's hope.

It's a win win regardless if you ask me.  Fitz makes some awful decisions in the redzone though.

Fitz seems to be having "that year" where he is INT prone so hopefully he's feeling generous!

Flacco's deep balls were on the money last week. Hope we get to see Breshad run wild on this Jets secondary that's given up like 4 50+ yard touchdowns so far!
