[News] Ravens Offense Shows Promise Under Marty Mornhinweg, But Doomed By Penalties

81 posts in this topic

Marty still went pass-happy in the second half, with Joe out of the Shotgun nearly every play. The results were predictable: running game disappeared, O-Line overwhelmed by edge rushers, and Joe throwing off of his back foot.

DB's are terrible and have no idea how to cover. Harbaugh has no idea what is happening. The look on his face now says it all. Where is the guy that hates penalties and won't tolerate them? The whole team seems more interested in PR work and commercials now. Now is the time to take control of the Division and they are playing like cellar dwellers. A 7-9 record looks more unlikely now. I can see the Browns having a better record than the RAVENS and that really ticks me off since we have "so much talent on the team". Time to find something new to do on SUNDAY afternoons for this fan.

Well coached teams are well disciplined. And well disciplined teams do not commit a large number of penalties. Well coached and well disciplined teams are not self-destructive.

But really, penalties is just one of the chronic issues on this team that make us better at finding ways to lose than we are at finding ways to win.

Bandwagon fans are not defined by the fact that we criticize our favorite team. A bandwagon fan is one who abandons the team when they are playing badly; then return to cheer them on when they start playing well again.

In my opinion, being a fan does not mean living in a fantasy world and believing that our team is better than it is. And it does not mean to discredit critics as fair weather followers and ignore the reality. When patterns develop that contribute to losing, like drive-killing penalties and red zone anxiety disorder, a true, frustrated fan will criticize his/her team because we care.

I second that Picke. I love my team and when they do poorly, we also take the criticism. You also have to realize that many times, our fans get it right. Remember how many times when we fans are on the same page with an issue, then it gets changed. Trestman comes to mind most recently.

At least this L will clear out the bandwagon fans.

Definitely will clear out the home games fans from going. Especially in this economy.

Get ready for the Steelers and Eagles games to feel like road games.

I see Perriman still dropping passes, Hurst getting Joe sacked, and Ravens trying rookies in the secondary.

Perriman better start stepping it up a notch. A number #1 pick. Lets move onto our #2 pick this year KC. Is it just me or is this the new Arthur Brown? When your team is that banged up and you can't get into the rotation as a #2 pick I'm wondering more than a little.

Ravens picks don't play in their first year .......and half their second year

Sadly the majority of them don't play at all.

I saw improvement in the offense and I think that's a positive. Going into this game I wasn't sure we could win it given our injuries and trying out a new offense system. The penalties def hurt. But I saw a lot that was better than the previous games with our offense. Perriman's catch in first drive of first quarter...CLUTCH!

Odell Beckham annoys me lol. All his celebrating and his love affair with that sideline net...he's just too much. Annoying as could be. Well, let him celebrate...we all have a long way to go for this season to be over so today he celebrates but Dallas will likely kick their behinds anywho (div rivals), so the Giants need not count themselves in playoffs just yet Odumb beckHAM.

I'd like to see the Ravens keep moving forward and not be too discouraged by Sunday's outcome. Really work on stopping those penalties and keep elevating the level of playmaking.

Bengals and Pitts both lost their games so that's somewhat helpful to us. Means no one advanced this week...including them.

If one wants to be truthful there are a lot of problems with the Ravens not just in drafting, coaching but also playing. I don't think there is inspired leadership like previously under Reed and Lewis. I don't think our offense is competitive both in play calling and execution. On field decision making for Harbaugh is well below par and has been for a long time now. Ozzie and gang are probably pressured into bringing in special teams prowess over pure talent. Who knows how many things are wrong with us and what needs to be done to correct them?

I'll say this much. I am not a proponent to fire Ozzie or Harbaugh because continuity is a big deal. Also, Harbaugh has shown a propensity to change if there is ample pressure on him to do so. Although he is somewhat bull headed initially he can be a change agent under the right circumstances. Bisciotti needs to sit him down and tell him as much. Ozzie has lost a lot of talent in the scouting department and their replacements aren't there yet. I firmly believe the two departments personnel and coaching need to be independent of each other with just insight from the coaches and not interference. However, I must admit this is just rumored and I don't know if this is a fact.

Lastly, the players need to play well and execute the game plan well. It is the offense and special teams this year that are underperforming and the onus rests squarely with Flacco and Rosburg. Flacco needs to play like he is a franchise QB. He is unable to manage the clock well in the final couple of minutes imo. Also he is very errant under pressure, not just pressure on the play where he is being rushed, but when the game is on the line. Case in point is the over throw to Wallace when he was wide open. That isn't very good quarterbacking. At least nowhere close to elite or even good. He knows he is it for this franchise and therefore cannot take this team for granted. Same thing goes for the rest of the offense. They need to pick it up ASAP.

Wallace should have scored on his deep play. In his on words during training camp, he admits he may have lost a step or two. Its showing up now. Jury still
out on Perriman.

Very constructively said...I agree with your definition of bandwagon vs. angry fan. And I try not to drink too much purple kool-aid. But I also realize that some things are fixable, such as penalties, team discipline and more effective play calling. And when certain fans seem way to quick to surrender the season, and start calling to gut the entire team, and the sky is falling, and this team will be horrible for the next ten years (and you know they're out there, generating doom and dismay), it gets frustrating for the more optimistic ones out there. The AFC north is open for the taking. It's that simple. All the Raven's need is to get hot, and the path is there, waiting to be walked down.

So I don't mind people being critical, nor having negative opinions, as long as it's based in reality. But some of the out right falsities and delusional predictions wear a little thin. There are a lot of trolls out there, and sometimes you need to knock them back into their caves (or mom's basements) when they rear their yellow and black heads...

True the O line actually did very well considering, and yes we even had some runs that went very well. But lets stop drinking the Kool-Aid for a second. They couldn't run the ball on the 1 yard line to score. Horrible!!

Still ranks second in Offence in the NFL. Horrible

The O line has major injuries. Bad situation even though the new line did dam good this past week.

Corner backs still can't cover a bed, even  if you gave them a blanket. Sad

Joe still is the most inconsistent QB and that doesn't matter who the O line is. He missed some wide open receivers and his decision making is rated a D-

He can't run and he can't throw into coverage. Sure he has a cannon of a arm and can throw the deep ball. Unless it's under thrown again and again

D-line I believe got (1) sak all day. If we don't get some real solid draft picks next year and get some real back up players my guess is Ozzie could be walking out the door. Decosta is the air apparent so he will stay. Harbaugh is on a short leash and he knows it. Thus the life in the NFL. We need better players and we need to get guys that are younger and stay healthy. Like they said. NO ONE'S JOB IS SAFE!

Penalties are the sign of an undisciplined team. Discipline begins with strong leadership, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the Ravens HC seems to lack the knowledge on how to correct these issues week in and week out giving lame excuses. It's evident that Harbaugh had no idea how to fix the Ravens. It's time new HC, GM and while at it QB as well.

yeah, going back we are the most penalized team in the nfl over the past 10 years, thats on the HC.

I wonder if PEES were HC would we be better coached/ let HARBAUGH go help coach with his brother,

And you have as many people asking why we didn't pressure Manning and why didn't we at least have over the top help with Beckham but that he should have been double teamed to start with especially on 4th and 1 with the game on the line. Young gets wiped out by Weddle, (Pees called the play) and they score a TD. These people are calling for Pees head so you want to make head coach out of the person who just blew the game because he put a rookie CB on the best receiver in the league and gave him no help at all. AND after Manning had a 35 passer rating when blitzed, we don't put any pressure on him and almost zero blitzes the whole game. There is plenty of blame to go around, but it sounds like you have an axe to grind with Harbaugh so facts don't figure into your arguments.

15 penalties is unacceptable. If a player has 2 penalties or more in a game, he should sit the next game. I'd rather lose playing penalty-free than watch any more of this un-watchable product.

I must say the running game has been a breathe of fresh air. Now that passing attack is average at best,i don't know why they don't let Flacco work from the pocket a little more with play action and screen game. Flacco i believe had Aiken wide open in the corner of the end zone on the final play of the game...and Mike Wallace was wide open on the side lines. Mr. Flacco throw's the ball to Pitta with 4 bodies in front of him. C'MON MAN ARE YOU SERIOUS!!

Well, this is the Raven way. We make games harder than they need to be. The only exception, when Ed and Ray were here, we found ways to finish strong. At some point we need to correct these 4th quarter failures and star walking away with W's. Having said that, we are only 1 game back, yes we've made it hard for ourselves, but, we have to seize the opportunity. Time for the young guys to step up. Oh, btw, Sharice Wright is getting beat every week for TD's. Man, he needs to go.

Aiken wasn't open until Joe threw the ball. The DB covering him went to make a play for the jump ball. Aiken continued to the corner of the end zone. That should tell all you need to know about Aiken. The DB knew the ball was in the air and went to make a play. Aiken didn't know and went in the opposite direction. What is wrong with that picture?

The penalties are a big problem that need to be addressed, It's killing our drives right now. How many first downs were called back Sunday due to penalties? The most ridiculous is a false start from a Guard, especially being lined up next to the Center. Unacceptable!

Yes the avoidable penalties are the concern and there is many. Holding penalties are gonna happen game to game, just depends on the refs. Still don't get sloppy, use technique. But cannot have false starts, illegal formation or delay of game penalties. Seems telling of players not being sure, so work on being sure minded for game day.
