Why not play Correa?

There are plenty of rookie linebackers getting run right now.  Correa is not playing because he is weak and the game is too big for him right now.

This was a terrible pick.

There are plenty of rookie wide receivers making plays for their team right now and Vikings first round receiver  laquan Treadwell isn't. Correa actually is playing but not getting alot of snaps. Most of his playing time is going towards special teams but i'm not ready to call him a terrible pick . I like what I saw on tape from him but his pass rushing skills were always raw which was  bound to take time for him to work on even with out him learning two position.

Cant say it was a terrible pick yet. He's got upside.

If its only a terrible pick because he's too weak for the role he was likely drafted to play (rush LB) and the game is too big for him... well those are both easily correctable with little more than time. The more he plays the more comfortable he'll get and one offseason in an NFL strength program will help him bulk up and gain strength without losing any explosion or quickness.

If they plan to keep him at ILB then he could probably stand to clean his body up a little, losing weight while adding strength. But, if the goal is to have him rush from the outside in the future - its not a stretch to imagine him putting on 15-20 lbs over the next year. 15 lbs of muscle and his strength will improve and be around the same size as Sizzle. Couple that size/strength increase with an offseason to hone his technique and he could be a drastically different player in a year.

Before judging the pick we need to see what position they ultimately project him to full time and give him a full year in an NFL program to prepare his body and skill set to play there. Right now he's either undersized or under-prepared for the position(s) hes being asked to play, so its a little harsh to judge him  yet.

With Mosley and Orr, I honestly would like to see him bulk up 15-20 lbs and try to become a straight, 3-4 OLB.

I agree that part of Correa's issue is that he came into the league a ILB/OLB tweener, and doesn't necessarily have the godmode athleticism (i.e. Clay Matthews, Troy Polamalu) to win across multiple positions. I agree that choosing and tailoring his body to ILB or OLB would be a good first step, but the bigger problem is his technique, especially in hand usage.

Correa is small for an OLB both in height and weight, he simply isn't going to win in a match of strength against an NFL OL. I like the example of Bud Dupree, because for both of them most of their production came from cleanly off the line and that simply doesn't happen consistently in the NFL no matter how fast you are. If you don't have an understanding of how to absorb a punch, or fight through a block when someone gets inside your pads, you basically get taken out of a play even when you play to the whistle like Correa.

Once the light turns on for Correa (and Dupree for that matter) I think he has plenty of physicality to execute even with a tweener body.

We're likely to see what he's got this week. With Doom out, and Suggs likely out or severely limited, these guys are gonna get a lot of snaps. They need to use them.
