Why not play Correa?

95 posts in this topic

So innocent sincere question, why didn't the coaches play Correa more?

I would get not playing him if he's not ready (hasn't learned playbook, etc.), but then why activate him for the game?

I would also get benching him if he made some mistakes and was a liability, but he played, what, one play?

I'm no strategic mastermind, but don't get it, anyone have some insight?

He hasn't proven that he should be on the field yet.  He was active today because he was an actual healthy body (rare, I know...) and the past few weeks because he's better on ST than Judon.  When he earns his time, he'll get it.  A lot of people recognized that when he was drafted, he was going to need time to develop.  He's not ready yet.

I feel you. Our pass rush is non existent with Suggs/Doon aging, and injured why not give Correa a chance to do what he did best in college.

Think he will bust. Too early to say yet, just don't see it with him. Hoepfully I'm wrong

Agree on all that. He was my least favorite pick in a long time.

Haven't fans learned their lesson about the whole "lets give our depth guys a shot when the starters aren't playing well" thing already? I mean how's that been working out for ya this year?

Personally think he lost his dog mentality when Joe the Franchise player ripped him a new one for being so aggressive.  I feel like he's afraid to really let loose. You could tell me I was wrong if he was running all over wild missing plays, but he's just not playing with any fire. Flacco put it out and that's not Flaccos fault. What would happen his first offsides play on a big 3rd and 1? Would he be slow off the ball from then on? He needs to get over it and just go wild. If he blows it then ok he's not there, but his game is to go 100 mph like a mad man. He's not methodical or technical. He needs to stop trying to be that player and be who he is.

Of the three players taken early, I think Correa has the best chance to bust but it is too early to say. He came out of Boise State and Lawrence was the only defender from that program who was ready to play. That program is notorious for guys requiring development as pros.

There were so many better players available.

I don't have a good feeling about KC, but it's too early to call him a bust.  He needed development time and that's certain and we all knew that.  The one thing that gets me is the front office said they wanted players that would contribute right always, like Young and Lewis.  Anyway, I'm hoping KC surprises us all at this point.

Guess I'm in the minority who feels  he has potential. I think he hasn't played yet for a number of reasons. Primarily because of Orr and Macllean.

We are fortunate to have a solid LB core. KC isn't up to par with our vets yet.

They need to stop screwing around and leave him at OLB where he belongs. I said it when we drafted him and someone brought up a move to ILB -- he is not built for that.

Agreed. Especially when we are pretty set at ILB and clearly need outside pass rush. They've made him a non factor so far. He can't even get burn in most blitzing packages.

Yeah. I'll agree here. I liked Correa but not more than a lot of guys on the board

Better question would probably be why PLAY Correa?

Nobody else offers any type of outside pass rush. Might as well let him try. You know what's annoying? Watching flaccos pocket collapse inside and around the edges almost every play but for some reason we can't get any pressure. And we double dipped this draft at pass rusher.

Who would have been your pick? At the time I said Derrick Henry but the way west is playing we could do without. I'm curious to hear your opinion.

Well then why not let Weddle rush the passer? Or how about bringing in like Yanda to do it?

I mean again, I think fans should have learned their lesson by now when it comes to calling for depth guys to play over guys who they already lost a competition to just because the starter isn't playing well.

I've heard "give me more Jensen" multiple times this season... that's quieted down the last few weeks. I've heard give me more Judon for the last two weeks... how'd he do today, in a prime spot to make a statement for more snaps?

I mean as far as I recall, I believe Correa spent more time in the preseason at ILB rather than OLB, so one would think that's where he would be more likely to get playing time.

Seems a bit premature to be taking snaps from Judon and ZaDarius, since we know those are about the only handful of guys who will actually be here next year.

wasted pick. plain and simple. FO would re-do it over again and they regret the pick. no doubt.

I feel like we want two things to be true that just aren't true right now. We want Correa to be good right now, but he's not. And we want him to play, but there are other players on the roster who are better than him right now.

Correa's sole career highlight is a pass defended in the flat at Jacksonville. Other than that, he's gotten stone-walled by average OTs as a pass-rusher and washed-out in run plays coming at him (all in limited snaps, but that's all we have to go on). Correa simply hasn't shown that he deserves playing time right now, and I'm sure his performance in practice compared to other players on the roster has further proven that. There's a reason coaches opt to use McClellan over him.

Sometimes players need a chance just a shot at real game time action to prove themselves..  Makes me think of how Ellerbe was essentially benched behind McClain for a full season, finally got back on field after a million injuries and played great when he got the chance or when Kruger was moved all around, then didn't play finally got a chance as pass rusher actually did something...

We never even got to see A.Brown fail or succeed on the field.

Currently pass rush is struggling to win battles upfront, McClellan doesn't do much well other than set the edge and play special teams so Correa ideally should get some of those snaps from McClellan.

I had similar discussion on here a few weeks ago but it was about me calling for Urshel to play LG over Jensen, to which someone said he hasn't earned it.  Now I replied Urshel was fighting for the starting job until he got injured, kid played well at LG & center his rookie year we've seen him be productive and look much better than Jensen did in that Raiders game.  Now Urshel is playing and creating holes for the run game the last 2 weeks, he's not just spinning around every single pass play. It's a serviceable upgrade.
