Merged: Marty Mornhinweg and the New Offense

Exactly. There is playing 1 dimensional on offense and then tere is just flat out stupid gameplanning. Trestman did the latter, 1 dimensional doesn't describe his play calling. He was 1 dimensional and didn't even call that dimension even close to efficiently, and seemed to call the exact opposite of our strengths.

Yea, I have always been a fan of the offensive scheme and with the weapons that have been added the last two years i got even more excited about it. Trestman to is credit was pretty creative with the offense at times, but we clearly saw the problem was he didn't know how to fully utilize all the weapons and those guys got tired of it.

Yea I get that we still had chances to win the last two games and you can't pin it all on Trestman.

Like if Perriman makes either catch, if we convert that 4th down, if Mosley doesn't fumble, etc....

and that's true - we would've probably eeked out those wins.

But if Trestman wasn't misusing our weapons, calling 6 yard routes on every 3rd and 8, and calling a terrible game the other 95% of the time there's a good chance the games wouldn't have come down to needing to count on 1 or 2 moments to win every single game.

Yea that a good point. There were moments in every game where if balls are caught, Moore's TD, Moore's drop vs OAK, Wallace TD and of course Perriman, than Trestman probably still has a job. However if Harbs second guessed this decision almost immediately, I have to wonder and think that Trestman would be on thin ice every game and if he wasn't using the run game which he showed no interest in than he would be fired during the Bye Week anyway.

With the play calling, I was sold on Marty just reading what the Giants said about him earlier this week. Those guys are preparing for deep attacks downfield and a heavy dose of run based on comments from some defensive players who played on teams Marty coached. Honestly I really believe in the talent on this offense and I don't think the OC has to be super creative or good to have tremendous success, you just have to use the weapons properly. You can have the biggest gun in the fight but if you don't know how to shoot it, it doesn't matter.

One thing that I feel is a distinct advantage for us this week that no one is mentioning, is the fact that no one (outside the Ravens) knows what to expect from Marty and the offense. As mentioned above, "those guys are preparing for deep attacks downfield and a heavy dose of run" may be correct but, they are still only guessing. There is no way the Giants can possibly game plan our offense.

We have to use that to our advantage and not show our hand too early in the game.

Long history of success? What history is that exactly? He certainly didn't have any success in Detroit almost identical to lackluster stint Trestman had in Chicago. I think this saying truly fits here with this coaching staff-- " if you lay down with dogs you are going to get fleas" ! Biscotti needs to stop putting band-aids on bullet wounds. Our whole team in racked with average players producing below average results. Nobody is playing lights out. That's directly on John Har-ball.

We can rebuild it and we can make it better!

I agree with you on this front.  Im not sure we win this game due to the injuries we have along the lines and I believe losing Mosely will be tough on the defense.  That being said, it's not impossible and I believe as long as the OL can provide some protection for Joe and open up some running lanes we can win this game.

Looking forward to seeing what Marty does with the O.

Insane, this is actually the second time Marty has replaced trestman as OC. He was fired by the niners in 1996 and they replaced him with Marty in 1997.

Wow, that must have been awkward.

Giants are dealing with injuries too. I believe that losing Mosley and Steve Smith sucks but our offense has dealt with much worse situations and put up some points out there.

Lol, that's a pretty interesting coincidence.

Kinda funny how history repeats itself sometimes. Especially with this happening exactly 20yrs later.

If the running game is successfull today we can expect 25+ runs. Marty likes the ground and pound and Harbaugh too. This is Ravens football and it well help A LOT FLacco they won't use as much DBs on the field, might bring the safeties closer, will open the zones behing the LBs off playactions.

So how did everyone like the new play calling today? I thought it was diverse and I'm excited to see what else he can do these next few weeks.

He was great. If not for penalties and injuries we would've won the game.

Yup.

Penalties and poor execution.
I like Marty much more than Tresman in this one game.

Definitely better than Trestman. I'd like to see some comeback routes implemented. The offensive line though.......

Seems Marty will do much better. I will say though he needs to forget the TE screen is in the playbook. We just can't seem to make it work.

Our TEs aren't fast enough (especially Crockett).

I would say screens thrown to anyone who isn't a RB just don't work for us.

Marty showed creativity. He's way better than trestman for sure and the players seemed to play harder for him.

The RR screens were beastly.

Loved what I saw today. Aggressive play calling while remaining balanced. We attacked all over the field, deep, short, middle, sideline, whatever. We committed to running the ball, and it was somewhat effective today. If we have starters in on the line, we don't get stood up on the goalline.

Amen to that. Even Zuttah played well today. When the starters return I expect significant offensive production. We have the talent to do it.

Yeah, there was a lot to be excited about. I was pleasantly surprised with how much he looked to set up the run in the first half too. It's just a shame we ran out of players.

Oh! Wanted to point this out.

I think we're completely moved on from the gap scheme and completely committed to zone again. Saw a lot of stretch today. Lot of inside zone. Not a lot of gap scheme, if any.

I think Marty is more in touch with the players. It's that simple.

As frustrating as this game was, another positive I want to point out: ZERO turnovers from Flacco (albeit no TDs either)!

Which probably contributed to Zuttah's good play. I'm telling you, once the oline comes back this will be a hard team to stop.

We're a legit contender if we can get healthy

Idk about that. I'm usually pretty optimistic but our pass rush is anemic and our receivers are, well, not receiving enough. We need Judon/ZDS/Correa to ramp it up on the edge soon. We need receivers to make a damn play every once in a while. We need them to be relied on. I'm not seeing anything from our receivers that gives me any level of confidence in this team's ability to compete.

First step to fixing the offense besides getting healthy is to get a run game going. If we can get Steve back, that's another weapon which should help open up the passing game. A healthy oline also could help with the deep passing game, and even if there are incompletions there that could cause defenses to respect our speed etc, etc, etc.

Perriman actually has been looking a little bit better each game. Only one of the drops he had today was infuriating(better than the past few week). Pitta can make plays over the middle, and we actually ran a successful RB screen today.

This offense has potential. The only WR at the top of my crap list right now is Aiken.

Eli could have set up a tent. Smoked a turkey. Ate. Drank a couple beers . Fished for a couple hours an read The Lord of the Rings Trilogy before somebody even breathed on him. Receivers? Again agree. Its like they just left the Waffle House and they forgot to wipe the butter off their fingers. In fact they should put more syrup on their pancakes and waffles so they can get some sticky finger.
