Merged: Marty Mornhinweg and the New Offense

340 posts in this topic

We can't help but notice all the strange coincidences between the Cameron and Trestman firings (occured mid season, fired despite winning record, came after a loss at home to the Redskins, etc). Will history continue to repeat itself with another historic playoff run by a rejuvinated offense?

Let's talk about our potential savior, Marty Mornhinweg. He'll be using the same playbook as Trestman. What adjustments should we expect to see, keeping in mind that our OL is still an abomination?

Where are our expectations at now that Trestman is out of the way?

Let's not kid ourselves either. Trestman was terri-bad...but far from our only problem. The players certainly have done him no favors or given him all he needed to be successful.

What say you, purple brethren?

Here's a little bit of what I want to see

Make two TE sets great again! Clearly, the OL needs help til they get their act together. And we happen to have some Pitta guy, and Gilmore; both of whom are good blocking TEs and are reliable targets to throw to. Putting them both on the field together will help disguise our intentions on any given play. Are they in there to block for the HB? Is one staying back in pass pro while the other getting loose to run a route? Are they both there to terrorize opposing LBers and safeties? Who knows?? And that's the point.

Don't be afraid of commitment. The running game loves you, and will always be there for you. All it wants in return is your attention. Give her what she needs, and she will take care of the rest.

If it was meant to be, set it free. You have yourself a QB who can unleash the horrors of hell upon any secondary. You have two WRs who are quicker than a Trestman tenure. Unleash the fury! Let the Flacco go deep until his arm falls off if that's what he wants.

Let's go!

Its kinda creepy. A death within the organization just like 2012. We lose to the skins just like 2012. We fire our OC the day after just like 2012. We know we have talent and potential just like 2012. So now let's get hot bust our playbook wide open and win a Superbowl

Ah. How can I forget the deaths that occurred. It broke my heart watching Joe lift the trophy, and Mr. Modell was not there to see it...if he just held on for a few more months...

I mean, our identity isn't complex. It's running the ball and keep the defense on their heels, and when we pass, we pass it deep, or to Pitta/SSS if not possible. We don't need a genius, we just need a guy who understands the personnel he has. At least Marty knows how frustated Joe and his bunch are.

2 deaths actually.. One before and and one during the season. Just like 2012 with art and torreys brother.

What id like to see is this...

Use the run game when it works, stop over thinking it.

Utilize the speed we have for once and stop fitting square pegs in round holes.

Work different levels of the defense, stop sending 2 crossing patterns to the same level, make the defense think!

Attack the defense, attack the soft spots! When the defense sits on the sticks you can't throw 3 yards shy because it's an easy tackle, with our speed we need to take advantage and abuse the seam and run some 12-15 yard in routes between the LBs and safeties, our wr corps can attack that section of the field quicker than any other wr corps based on speed alone.

Call proper dump offs. Don't lure the whole defense to the rb then throw it to him, take the defense deep, or across the field with misdirection, dump it off for a 1v1 open field matchup.

Stop with the TE screens

I think players did not believe in Trestman either. Motivation is really important and if the players are not happy they will underperform.

Now, with the new coach that can change. I expect to see offense play harder and see some unexpected players step up.

Trestman seemed to have lost the players. When guys start saying things like  "I don't know,  I don't call the plays."

And your quarterback says he's unhappy and embarrassed the writing is  probably on the wall.

I had forgotten about the deaths that year. It is eery when you think about it.

I'm not sure I see the amount of talent that you do though. Outside of the line, the offense might measure up to the '12 unit, but the defense is another story.

I'm guessing they won't shake things up too much so I wouldn't be surprised to see more dinking and dunking. I just hope they can aim for the sticks or at least past the LOS.

I don't expect the run game to be out of this world behind that line, but I'm sure they won't have 8 runs in 3 quarters.

It is weird how many similar storylines are the same from the 2012 season... The Ravens lose a person part of the organization and dedicate the season to them. Steve Smith is pretty much out the door like Ray was at the time. We lost to Washington. What if our offense just went out and scored 40 next week lol.

Devin Hester = Jacoby jones

the same bad special teams that let two TD returns against Denver

Super Bowl season confirmed

Praying our offense changes after this

Suggs was coming off an achilles also. We also lost to the Redskins in 2000 with a horrible offenive showing just saying

I would still take Jacoby. Hester seemed too scared to fair catch the punts yesterday and 2-3 times he lets it roll down past the 5yd line

What do we know about him? Can he help us? This was the guy that head coached the Lions way back and elected to kick off to the Bears to start a "score first wins" overtime quarter, in which they lost when the bears kicked a field goal.

But he is not our head coach and has indeed seen far more success as an offensive coordinator than trestman ever had.

He took over the Eagles offense for the last seven games of the 2006 season. 6 of those games were victories and with offensive success before losing in the divisional round by a field goal to the Saints. The Eagles started the season 5-6, then went on to win out their regular season games to finish at 10-6 and the NFC East title, averaging 26 points a game. Very impressive. They had a 36 year old Jeff Garcia also conducting that regular season run.

“Mornhinweg’s offenses have finished 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 9th, 10th and 12th in total offense, and regularly highly ranked in big plays.”

Thoughts about our new OC?

Just find someone that will hand off the damn ball and not abandon the run game when down by 6

and no run run pass predictability

I would have eaten that poopy flavored lollipop in exchange for one of the two (Mosely fumbling out of bounds instead of endzone or Perriman catching one of the two passes that went his way for a touchdown)

I'll take the loss as a blessing. Trestman is still here if we win.

I'll take a loss for the long term betterment.

I agree.  I'm taking it as a blessing as well.  Something good will come of it.

Fantastic way of looking at it. It worked in 2012.

Not who I would choose, ideally. But he can't possibly be worse than Trestman. After what he did yesterday, I'd take Caldwell over him.

And when we abandoned the run we didn't score again that's the point we were winning while we were balanced to run heavy. When we became predictable is when we kept going 3and out

I know that's a tough concept to grasp isn't it

This. I don't care if our receivers drop the ball or Joe misses his target.

I wonder when did they start talking with Marty. Obviously, they were prepared for this scenario.
