[News] Ravens Fire Offensive Coordinator Marc Trestman

If anyone thinks that this is the only thing wrong with this inept offense, then they are delusional. We have an offensive line that can't pass block. We have receivers who drop passes every game. We have a quarterback who short arms passes into the ground, throws over people's heads, and doesn't hit the receiver in stride. Even though Trestman's scheme sucked, it was not the only problem. The players need to prove they can do their jobs as well.

I saw a firing coming. Wasn't sure if it was gonna be Trestman, but I'm not surprised. You don't abandon a hot-handed running game. I suspect Trestman was salivating over our talent, but the Harbaugh/Flacco Offensive potential didn't suit his schemes.

Never liked Trestman's calls. He never got our system going like Kubiak did and I think he never really understood it as well as Kubiak. Don't know much about Mornhinwag but at this point it can't get much worse.

Joe doesn't have time because the Offense was so predictable! Hopefully things will change now and Joe can start slinging that Rock more down field! The run is back ok but if Joe isn't slinging that Rock we won't last! When we play the squeelers we can't waste time running trying to eat the clock or whatever Big Ben is on fire and he is going to Bell in the open field his WRs and so on so hopefully the pass comes back because I've been hard on Joe because the way he makes it known he wasn't happy about the play calling he needs to take the helm of this team and LEAD US! Gotta keep going to his WRs even if they drop it keep going to them because they cold they need need throws and I hope I see it against the giants!
Sincerely The Troll Lol

Every since that Superbowl run the Ravens convinced themselves that the offense can run through Joe. In the Ravens championship/playoff run there was always been a power FB like Leach, Gash, O Neal and big physical o-linemen. like Birk, McKinney, KO, Mulitalo. I know its a passing league but even Brady, Big Ben, Manning have somewhat of a run game to set things up. When they don't, they lose games.

How many times do you see Brady, Big Ben, or Manning miss the throws that Joe makes? Or back foot lobs? The next to go should be Flacco if no improvement.

aside from zuttah and yanda we have young o-lineman, some being rookies and most of them have already missed games to injury. not going to be easy but the fo needs to look at bringing in a veteran via trade to either compete for a starting spot or provide better depth.

I thought it would be Harbaugh that was gone. I saw the momentum go away after that Harbaugh gamble where we gave up 3 points. We could've had the tie and possible win with that on the score board instead of the dumb fake nonsense. You take points when you can. It does make a difference. It did this week and last week. The players seemed dejected after that incident. I know I'd be if I was playing. Wake up Harbaugh. You could be next.

The problem with the offense is lack of talent. The offensive line is and has been mediocre at best for years now. Aside from Yanda, who on that line consistently puts up an A game? And where is the offense's top tier receiver? Finally, the rush attack has been a mess since "he-who-must-not-be-named" suspended himself from the league for unacceptable behavior. What solid running backs have been brought in since? None. In fact, the roster for the offense has zero players outside of Yanda and Flacco one would reasonably consider a perennial Pro-Bowl quality starter. This is not Flacco's fault. This is not Harbaugh's fault. And this is not Trestman's fault. The blame is solely on Ozzie Newsome. He is why our Ravens have struggled offensively for years. He is the one that needs to be fired.

LOL West is as good as half the starters in the league. Go ahead look it up... YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR WEAPONS. Silly kid Trix are for kids...

for the best.

Agree but I ask this; when is Harbs going to be held accountable for his coaches? Doesn't he review the game plans? It's obvious from his press conference he didn't even realize Trestman abandoned the run yesterday. When is he going to learn how to manage a game and make the necessary in game changes?

your question doesnt make sense.
you're basically asking him to be the offensive coordinator.
he's a special teams guy.

He made a hire, it didnt work, he replaced the guy.
what do you want?

No, I'm not asking him to be the OC but he is the HC who has the responsibility to oversee every facet of the game just like every other person in his position.

Great, he's a special teams guy - where is he on the Special Teams then?

if youre asking him to oversee the offense, youre asking him to be the OC.

thats the OC's job.

Halsheyeji.... I am with you on point # 3. I think we are the only ones who take the "Is Flacco Elite" seriously. Everyone says that winning super bowls is what makes you elite. If Joe retires with 2 or 3 rings... I don't care if he is mediocre everywhere else... he will be considered elite.

2. The OL were the system players I was speaking off. We do go with best available player but I feel like we may veer from the course a little on the OL?

3. I love the perspective on #1. I agree that if Tresman was our OC in the play offs.. we would have surely staled at some point .... different way of looking at it but I think you are right on with that one!

I really hope we bring in one more good lineman regardless. I agree that's probably our biggest concern right now and the point about drafting for system it does apply there lol

I expect one more lineman. We know what it looks when 2 or more starters are hurt so let's not fight the inevitable. Linemen get hurt. We really need quality depth! Not a Jensen and Hurst. We need someone that could potentially start and let the best 5 in training start.

I guess it's Ozzie time...

this won't change anything, because Flacco is still clueless, no matter who is calling the plays. those who think he has no time: other teams do not all have stellar O lines. the qb's bide time by moving to avoid the rush and allow receivers to get open. Joe is panicking within 3 seconds if there is even the hint of pressure and dumping to the easiest safety valve. same stuff has been going on since he was drafted through several OC's and different schemes, so obviously the coordinator is not the real problem. unless we trade and pickup a veteran lineman to shore up the line, this is what you get. i predict 5-11 based on what i have seen so far.

Joe does very good with limited time, he is very COOL under pressure. IN fact if receivers would catch the ball we win both of those games. I think you mistake bad offensive scheme to QB panic. Sure it is absolutely true that any QB can look disastrous with bad offensive scheme, look at Manning in his last days with Indy. Joe needs the team to execute properly, this is why a team such as the patsies can put in back-up QB's and perform at high levels.
You go on to point out O-line, absolutely. Definitely having an injured O-line is a big problem. The schemes will suffer big time, this is why the Run game looked so good. Joe goes under center, so that the line can attack moving forward. The back ups did well. When Joe goes to shotgun the back ups weaknesses show up. Missing Stanley on the left side is big when going to pass protection, add another injury and line play diminished even more.
Now that Trestman is gone- The Ravens still need to...
1. fix the O-line
2. use better play selection, especially when personnel is diminished
3. Stop the Dropped passes
4. stop the penalties (both sides)
5. stop the fumbles (both sides)
6. Run the ball 40% or more
7. Use play action
8. Get open downfield
9. Stop them on 3rd down and long (D)
10. big time players need to make big time plays. (any 1 of the 3 big plays change that game...ie- Perrimans dropped pass, Mosely's fumble, Fake field Goal)

Hopefully this move helps. A good coordinator has to take what their personnel gives them. Our OL is decent in run protection, but sub-par in pass pro. So obviously we should be a running a lot more. If we become a run first team we will win more games. Pretty simple stuff. Plus, with the running game being the focal point of the offense it will just open up the passing game. Run, run, run and make teams crowd the box and then find Wallace over the top for sixes. Not sure why Tressman was trying to force plays from an inconsistent QB with little firepower at receiver and a below average line at pass pro.

Also, I'm over Ozzie and Harbs not getting Joe a true #1 receiver. I get that they tried with Perriman, but it was pretty clear that he was a huge gamble to be that guy. He was definitely not worth a #1 pick. He was a combine warrior and Oz bought in hook, line, sinker. The FO can't keep relying on bringing in these veteran receivers whose best football is behind them. Sure, they'll get some production from them, but they aren't the type of guys who can just take a game over consistently. Enough with the veteran experiment and go out and get Joe a young, star to be.

I'm all for adding quality o-line depth.

Question to you guys (that know far more than I) is... Who could we go after?

I am really happy to see Trestman gone, with Marty being the right choice for the interim.

I hope, when the season is over, we begin looking for a "young", upcoming OC with fresh ideas. It's time to inject more youth into this coaching staff.

I've had enough of these crusty old guys they keep bringing in like Mattison, Zorn, Cam, Trestman ...

Fresh Minds = Fresh Ideas
