[News] Late For Work 10/10: Eight Takeaways From Ravens' Loss, Including 'Abandoned' Run Game

54 posts in this topic

No signs of change at offensive coordinator. C.J. Mosley named goat of week, but touchback rule should change. Offensive line 'exacerbating' offensive woes. ESPN analytics say take the points, but it's hard to say decision was bad. Ray Lewis and Michael Phelps a cool moment.

I never thought Trestman was a good hire. I have been calling for it since last season, and finally he is fired. This offense has so much potential and he was holding it back.

Just fired Trestman. Moral of the story don't lose to the Redskins. Same thing happened to Cam when we lost to Redskins.

Does that mean we will go to the Super Bowl again? (kidding)

OK Boys and Girls.... Let's see how much things change. It's never an instant fix. After Cameron, Caldwell, Kubiak, (which I heard people asking to get rid of him too), and now Trestman.... 4 Coordinators... On this one I am with @Crusader, still does not fix the offensive line and special teams problems.

Still does not fix the offensive line and special teams,

^^^ exactly, too much going wrong on this team to point the finger at Trestman, although his play calling does need to improve as well. One thing I don't fully understand though is doesn't Harbs have to sign off on the game plans prior to the game?

I would like the Ravens to send out scouts right away to scout cornerbacks and safties that can stay within 10 yards of receivers. The way it is going we will make all pros out of any QB we play.

Yes the O line is trash right now, and Wallace and Perriman keep dropping TDs, but Trestman also needed to go.

We dont have any real super stars on offense but there's no talent deficiency either. its ridiculous that we cant score.

Now that Trestman is fired, maybe Mornhinweg will shake it up, and bring back the more effective zone blocking schemes, and insist we need a proven RG,RT with Wagner going down, and personally loved Yanda's play at RT....Pees you're on notice, with your weak sauce non blitizing schemes...

Marc Trestman did not play Raven's football. I am happy that Washington's bad defense helped expose this issue. Maybe our offense can help our defense again.

I hate to see anyone ever get fired, and I am sure Marc Trestman is a good man, however, this is the first time I have EVER really leaned more toward replacing a coach a.s.a.p. ......... Our offense has completely tanked, and that can't all be on Joe, or the rest of the offense. Joe is in his 9th year, and I don't have to run through all of his and our offenses successes in that time, and yes, Joe is coming off of complete re-construction of his knee so that does factor in here a bit. I am always afraid of the old line of "the grass is always greener on the other side, until you get there", but in this case, I don't know if things can actually get worse than they already are. People always complained terribly about Cam Cameron, but he at least had the Ravens scoring TDs, and was in the playoffs every year he was our OC, and I absolutely think he should get most of the credit for getting our offense to the SB.
Ok, rant over, and let's move on to the next chapter...... Go Ravens ???

Said it yesterday someone was going to get fired, and it had to be done, shame it took two bad losses to pull the trigger, when the offense has been horrible from day 1........We saw Cousins, knowing when the blitz was coming, put the ball out there and allow his receivers a chance to go get it, we have that kind of speed on the outside, no idea why we don't do that on their blitzes, i hope that changes now as well....

The heck with scoring! We can't buy a damn first down! 8 punts?! And 2 turn overs on downs. No wonder Harbs is taking risks coz God know when we get another opportunity to get 7 lol

It won't fix them over night but it can't get any worse than that. When you punt 8 times in 1 game, your bound to give up a big return. When your Oline is down a few players and the wind is blowing like crazy and you are leading most of the game and your running game is working perfectly.....

you don't throw 50 times!

Marty Morningweg takes over....  Leslie Frazier has done wonders with our secondary.  I'm not throwing in the towel on them yet.  We've been rated the #1 defense for 2 weeks now.

Yeah, firing Trestman is more of a shake things up move than it is going to actually solve the main issues. The only thing I keep thinking is, it's a move that helps the QB stay in the season, because I could tell, as many could...Joe was not happy yesterday by end of game. Hiring the quarterbacks coach to be the new OC is a boost for any QB who has a good chemistry with that personnel change...so I think that's what Harbs and co. are aiming is to help give Joe a boost with this coaching change, because that essentially helps the entire O and obviously that helps our D and ST.

OK FOLKS.....  Time to move the Trestman discussion to the appropriate board.  Thanks!

It's talked about in this article, so it's appropriate here, as well as the new one that directly addresses the firing.

I don't blame CJ Mosley one little bit for that fumble. It was at a point in the game where either the defense was going to score the game-winning points, or it wasn't going to happen. He shouldn't have regretted it at all - it's the kind of ambitious move Ed Reed or Ray Lewis would have made! I say, way to go CJ trying to step up when nobody else was!

Still does not fix the offensive line and special teams,

this may or may not matter to you but the OL started 2 second stringers in the first half and 4 second stringer in the second

I hear you, but if if he just falls at the 1 he would of basically scored for the offense. Marc Trestman would have ran it on the 1 surely right?

What a terrible loss
