Merged: Ravens Fire Marc Trestman

Trestman should have had someone chipping on Mack and Irvin. It seemed like poor game-planning to think Hurst would hold-up against either one without help. Ironically, it was Wagner who gave up the sack to Mack, however.

The play where Mack sacked Flacco he got chipped by Pitta and proceeded to embarrass Wagner, there really was nothing we could do. The O-line was just overmatched. It's the type of game where guys have to make plays when given the opportunity. It's also a game where you need to start running no huddle early and often.

Either that or throw some more screens, especially to Buck and NOT to Aiken ?

Washington fans got pretty sick of Shanahan pretty quickly - basically for getting predictable and abandoning the run too often, even on short downs when they had a lead. Which sounds kinda familiar. :P

The only OCs that don't get hated by their fan base aren't OCs for long.

This is true. OC's like Kubiak do not hang around long. Great Coordinators become HC's unfortunately. It would have been interesting to see Kubiak continue to work with Flacco and run our offense. However I like Trestman.  He may not be a guru but he can competently run an offense. He  has a lot of experience and has proven he can be successful on offense. Ravens played under some terrible OC's like Cavanaugh and Cameron. Trestman may not be a guru but he is experienced.

Many offenses that are supposed to be  great around the league are getting off the line slowly. As Flacco builds chemistry with Perriman, Wallace and Moore the offense will get better as its parts work smoother with more reps. Last years Trestman's offense got better later in the season. Even with Aiken as its #1 weapon. So give the offense several more games. We have Stanley and Lewis returning. And every game and practice Flacco and his WR's/OL get that much more comfortable. Our Offense  scored 27 points with 2 backups on Flacco's line. It will get better. Wallace, Perriman and Moore will get going. We have a RB returning that is special catching the ball. If Moore catches that ball we are not even talking about replacing Trestman.

Trestman can be successful. Is it really a good thing for Flacco to learn a new system? He is getting familiar with his guys and Trestman will hear his plea for more big plays. We have Stanley,  Lewis and Dixon returning. Lets not drop the hammer on rookie Chris Moore. Without a young slot WR he is probably our best at fast early separation as far as I know of. And has never demonstrated problems with drops before. Offense has some cleaning up but is capable of big things with its speed. Give Trestman an opportunity.

Joe Flacco expressed frustration with the lack of deep pass plays on offense.

"We just make it so tough on ourselves." Flacco said. "We throw the ball 50 times, and we only have 300 yards." Flacco has thrown the second-most passes under five air yards this season and is 30th in YPA average at 6.3. From 2010-2015, Flacco averaged three passes per game of 25-plus air yards. Over the past two games, he's thrown just three total. Coach John Harbaugh agrees they need to start hitting bigger plays to Mike Wallace and the receivers.

Harbaugh also had this to say about the offense....

“[A]fter four weeks, I think you start to get an idea of what you are really good at, especially with our receivers coming to the table late through training camp and all that,” Harbaugh said. “I feel like we all can see now what we have and how to utilize these guys. I want to get consistent at what we were doing.

“I want us to get out there and look certain and understand how we are going to execute things and get good at it.”

Now that's very informative to me as to why this offense has been inept for 4 weeks straight now.  Smh...

That's surprising.

Seriously, I'd have thought they'd be leading by a...bout 3 yards.

Completely unacceptable when your QB is a guy who is arguably the best in the league in the 15 - 30 yard range. Just absolutely insane.

True, but last week he barely had time to throw the 3 yarders. Hopefully things get on track soon.

I know Kubiak would have tried to give Flacco extra time by putting an extra blocker or two on one side and letting Flacco roll out. Even if someone didn't get open he'd have the chance to run for a few yards. Make something out of it even with bad protection. Trestman though doesn't seem to do those kind of plays.

Fact.

Joe Flacco with out protection, with out time is like a Ferrari with no wheels.

That's the one. I hate to lump us in this group, but that's a huge part of why sides like Miami can't throw it deep. We need better play from the OL and hopefully 79's return goes a long way to that.

Mark Trestman needs to be fired!!! These play calls are horrible.  Playing the worst defense in the league last week, then the 28th defense this week. Why can't this passing game get anything going?

The plays just don't develop enough. Totally agree but you had man-coverage all day. I would have at least envisioned a few deep passes today. We're going short too often against a defense designed to stop those type of plays.

I'm mixed on him now, where before I used to defend him.

On the one hand, our OL was struggling to pass-protect, and our receivers were not getting open--there was a lack of execution from the players.

On the other hand, our run-game was tearing-off chunks at a time--why abandon this? And why can we not throw more deep balls? (pass protection, lack of separation, Perriman's drop, I know). Seems like every pass in the 2nd half was inside of the sticks until the final drive--was there really no one open downfield?

I don't know... I guess I want Trestman to make this offense good despite the talent he has to work with, which is unreasonable.

It's not Trestman is having a bad season.  He is BAD and needs to go!!  His game plan/play calls are so predictable now.  We have good young players, but because of his poor game plan and plays the young players are getting hurt!!  No creativity, no imagination, not aggressive!!    Let him go before more players get hurt!  Harbaugh is also too soft!
