Percey Harvin?

52 posts in this topic

Absolutely NOT, and i'll tell you why.

He's got a returners body at 5'11 and 195lb, we have enough tiny recievers so Cam Cameron won't like that. He has durability issues (we already have a 5 game WR in D.Will) and most importantly does not run good routes. You cant rely on speed in the pros, these workout warriors are always exposed.
WR/CB is a need but by the time we select CB potential will have dropped and WRs will be limited. If Harvin is the only option left at WR then I think Ozzie goes back to the best player available strategy and takes a DE/OT/ LB(depending which LB is on the board)

But I still think Ozzie is going to trade up and make a play on a top 10-15 player. Jenkins/Maclin/Vontae Davis/Crabtree(depending on how far he falls)
I think we're trading up too. I'm betting that they'll be going after one of the CB's....probably Davis since he's more realistic to get.

Oz traded back up to get Flacco.
Not sure that we'd necessarily trade a player to move up. Maybe a 1 & 3 to get into the 13 - 16 slots.
we should trade up with SF by using Suggs and a 5th to get there 1st and 3rd
We can then pick either Jenkins (who i think falls to 10 as Cle will take LB and JAX will tek OT) or Vontae Davis

I mean DJ moore is also a great corner and will probably be there when we pic from 27-32, some say hes the best cover corenr in the draft

but id love to trade up to get Jenkins or Davis or Crabtree or Oher

And dont bash me about suggs because when we lose rex to the JEts Suggs has lost his hybris role as no one can run a hybrid as good as rex so well probably go 3-4 or 4-3 and i dont wanna pay suggs 70 mil to play OLB in the 3-4 or 70 mil to play De in the 4-3 as he doesnt have the moves so trading him to SF makes sense cause they all wann draft Evertte Brown so why not give them a player whose 3 years older and way better
I like your thinking but I doubt that SF will give up their pick since they need a quarterback and could end up with Stafford or Sanchez. I have seen Sanchez going to the 49ers with the 10 pick.

why is everyone so crazy about vontae davis? he's an almost strictly ZONE coverage corner. not sure if you've noticed, but we play predominantly MAN COVERAGE. jenkins is hands down the best man cover corner in the draft. if you think we'd trade up for vontae davis, you've got another thing coming.

It would be great if we traded a 1st & 3rd & 4th rounder for 2009 for someone else's 1st & 2nd & 5th before the season started. Everyone predicted that we'd end up 4-12, so if we traded with even the Browns, that would be good. I think some teams have policies against trading in the division. I'm not sure though. :)

Back to Harvin, the guy will be a horrible pro.

Every year a bunch of genius GMs drool over some speedy returner guy thinking (oh he'll learn to run routes and get separation, and catch) then they waste a pick, we already did that with Figurs.

You can't even compare Figurs and Harvin!! Harvin will be a good pro and I know the tag that everyone normally puts on these speedsters, but I think Harvin is the exception to this rule.

the ONLY WAY we would pick up a kicker in the first if he is
Ray Guy 90.0 who can kick 90 yard with 20 seconds hang time
and able to kick 109 yard field goals with ease

Harvin is good but he probably has a lot to learn before he can be an effective receiver in the NFL. I would rather the team take a corner if all the 1st round receivers are gone.

I would love percy harvin.. he would be that deep threat the ravens need and he even doubles as a runningback.. I've always said i wanted us to have one of those fast running backs because none of our backs really have that breakaway speed.. I think harvin would be an excellent compliment to our runningbacks as well as our recieving core.. I wouldnt be worried about his behavior in Baltimore.. Im all for drafting harvin

I agree you have to love how versatile Harvin is.

harvin is exactly what we need. hes a burner who can get open and make plays after the catch. he reminds me a lot of santonio holmes. i think with mason and clayton as more possesion receivers, harvin would be a perfect compliment. however i do think that ozzie should try to trade up a few picks for jeremy maclin.

NO! Harvin is exactly the same as Mark Clayton. Don't you see Clayton running those reverses and such all the time just as Harvin did for Florida? Injuries may have slowed Clayton a little but he is certainly not a possession receiver, because he does not make enough catches for that. Harvin also gets hurt a lot so I could see him breaking down pretty quickly as well, what we need is a big receiver to help us in goal line and red zone passing situations.

Percy Harvin is a good steal if we are able to get him that late in the first round. However, there is a hometown kid who plays 35 miles away in Darrius Heyward-Bey. He has good size, speed, and playmaking ability that the ravens could use. He might be available in the second round. This way, it allows for the Ravens to use that first round pick on a corner.

there are three receivers in the draft that would be better picks than Percy Harvin:

Crabtree
Heyward Bey
Maclin

Crabtree and Heyward Bey are big, physical recievers, like the ones we need. Maclin is only 5'11'' , I believe, but still has a bigger frame that harvin and is less susseptibal to injury. Plus he's a return ace. So yeah, Percy Harvin.....
dont' think so.

You have that backwards, Maclin is 6'1" and Harvin is 5'11"
