The Good, Bad and Ugly vent thread week 5

627 posts in this topic

What happened after the Mosley play on defense was very interesting.  I've got a lot of detail here:

http://russellstreetreport.com/2016/10/10/filmstudy/defensive-notes-vs-redskins/

The highlights:

--The Ravens had to call a timeout, presumably for a helmet exchange.

--McClellan quickly showed that his primary position should not be listed as "ILB" on the Ravens official roster (it still is).

--The Ravens increased total dime played during the Pees era by 10% (100 snaps previously, 10 snaps after Mosley's injury on Sunday)

There's much  more detail on these and other defensive topics in the article.

ST coverage was bad, obviously, and Hester had a very poor game. His only contribution to this team is on his returns and he cost us yardage on too many of them, especially the partially-blocked kick that he watched bounce for another 25-30 yards in the 4th quarter

i'd cut hester asap. i wasnt  a fan of the signing and i thought harbs was getting way too worked up over a returner. just use c.moore and see how it goes. hester isnt what he once was or even close

My biggest issue with Hester is how often he moves out of the way and allows the ball to bounce instead of fair catching it. Some of those bounces have cost us double digit yards.

Signing Hector was a bad move.   I have a hard time believing Hester will get back to that feisty returner.

Looking at him now,  he looks completely uncomfortable and depressed.

He has no confidence and his speed is dead.   He is not the HOF Hester that can return TDs.

I was one of the people most adamantly against the Hester signing. I still kinda think the FO is hoping either Camp comes back from injury in week 10 (or whenever, i don't remember how long it is until he can be re-signed) or Reynolds can develop on the Practice Squad.

Jimmy got caught peaking into the backfield.

Looked to me he expected Webb to cover deep on the outside while he would take on slot guy.

Learn how to spell his name before you bash him. The first drop was horrible, the should have been game winner was as difficult a catch as you'll ever see

And you should also learn to re-read your sentences before you bash me.  (the should have been game winner?)

If he was smiling or grinning do you think it was because he thought it was funny, or that he was happy? 'Cmon man, you've got to be kidding.

If you're pissed, act pissed, not the opposite. Joe's the leader of this team. Get pissed and maybe you'll light a fire under their butts. Don't just smile though. It sends the wrong message that you just don;t care anymore. You all know what I;m trying to say here.

Many people smile or grin when pissed.  It's a defense mechanism used to control one's emotions. Emotional intelligence.  You would have been more pleased if he jumped up and down and threw his helmet through the uprights?

I've been pretty mad at times or things continuously go wrong and I just laugh.

The ugly is the fan reactions to players.

Perriman makes a pretty difficult catch, but fails to get a second foot inbounds (barely out) and fans go nuts and love the hell out of him, until it gets overturned and everyone hates on him.

Not mad at him for just that catch. He dropped a perfectly placed, easy catch that went right through his hands earlier in the game that probably would have gone for a TD. And he's had other drops too. Don't even hate him, just concerned about the hands talk being accurate with the drops.

The concerns obviously are accurate but, on the other hand, we've seen him make some hard catches. He can do it. He can work through the frustrating drops, players have in the past, but it's undoubtedly a concern right now.

He needs to come down with those receptions, but looking forward, I am at least glad to know that the opportunities were there and that the wounds were rather self-inflicted. The deep drop earlier on went right between the hands, and it should've been an easy catch on what was and on point throw. But I'm personally not upset about the second one within the context of the circumstances. You're playing in your fifth game in the pros, you've missed the majority of both offseasons due to significant injuries, you're played on just 39% of the snaps, you're asked to beat an All-Pro caliber CB on a difficult grab in double coverage for the game-winner, and you come within literal inches of making it happen while coming down with the ball. I get the frustration for the easy drops. He's mixed in one with a difficult catch seemingly each week. I am, however, intrigued by the expectations of production, especially since we've shuffled every receiver not named Smith or Wallace like a deck of cards.

I'm upset with the deep ball drop because it looks like he didn't fully extend his arms to go out and make the catch, which is weird considering he wasn't fighting the DB or anything. Looked like he got one hand all the way on it and one hand halfway there. That'll just be a coachable moment.

I really like the potential that the second catch showed. Like you said, he's going up against an All-Pro from a year ago and he makes an insanely good catch in double coverage. It's very unfortunate that his momentum carried him out, but I'm not sure any of the Ravens receivers makes that catch.

I don't even think most people were expecting contributions from him until even halfway through this year and we aren't at that point yet.

Not to be nit picking, but what happened on the skins lone offensive TD? Didn't look like anyone was within 10 yards of the receiver.

@PurpleCity5 posted this in the game thread, but it very well could have been Cover 2. The Skins faked a screen pass to the wide receiver and Jimmy just really stayed flat footed. I'd like to see the All-22 on that because I don't think he just stays flat footed if his assignment weren't to defend the flat.

It was stated he needed to work on concentration drops.  I think he can develop well here especially with The T guy gone.

seems to me jimmy got fooled on the fake screen.

you actually see powers jump the route on the fake screen.

jimmy was caught looking into the backfield and was to slow to turn as garcon ran past him.

powers looked to have been responsible for the flat while jimmy was responsible for the deep part of the field.

webb looked to have been responsible for the deep middle part of the field.

powers was all over crowder while orr was on reed which left jimmy to take care of garcon.
reed was moving up to the middle of the field where webb was going to be.

I live in the DC area surrounded by Skins fans.   It may not be a team rivalry, but this is a rivalry for the fans and I can say yesterday WE beat ourselves..  We left atleast 13 to 20 points on the field.  The two biggies are the stupid fake fg which I noticed because Tucker lined up as a left footed kicker.  Duh!

However, with the firing of Trestman I'm ok with the loss, even to the skins, because this could have got us back on track.  Morninwheg has a very good history as on offensive coordinator.

Lets Go Ravens!

Explained above, but it looked like Webb had the deep middle and Powers had the flat.  I think Jimmy just got caught looking on that one, but hard to say without knowing the play call.

Not swearing by it. Just what I comprehended when watching the game. I haven't seen a all22 on it and don't really plan to lok

Webb, as well as most of the D, have been tackling remarkably well. I couldn't believe the way Tavon wrapped up on Reed yesterday. Just a lot there to appreciate when the fundamentals are executed so well. Wish our WRs could do the same.

People really don't realize the job he's been doing.  Mentioned this after the Browns game.

He's been absurdly good.

--He's allowed a few short completions but no significant YAC.  He's made quick tackles and made them in bounds when it mattered.

--He hasn't allowed anything you'd call a big play although Jackson had him beaten by a step (overthrown) on the Redskins last meaningful offensive snap (Q4, 2:50).

--Somehow, while the rest of the team was imploding on 3rd down versus the Browns, he was individually outstanding.

--He's delivered 2 turnovers personally in 121 snaps, both of which put his outstanding hands on display.

Barring injury, I expect he'll play the rest of the season at LCB, but it's possible he'll become the new Lardarius Webb who starts outside, but moves to SCB in the nickel.

It can be difficult to determine how well an untested corner is playing, but I looked at every one of his snaps from the Browns game in this piece:
