Trumbo should play first base, Chris Davis DH

Ridiculous! Davis is more than solid at first base. Even when he was slumping, it did not affect his defense. Trumbo would be a downgrade at first.

Dare I ask... why?  Have you seen Chris Davis play defense?  He's quite good at it.

Told #orioles also settle with Tillman. Big 3 done

Last time I'm pulling over. Tillman gets $10.5 mil per source. #orioles

The 5 that settled before arbitration (Machado, Britton, Tillman, Flaherty, McFarland) get $35.435M. Four still left projected for $11.2M.

Apparently Trumbo formerly turned down a 3yr/$40M contract at the start of FA. After a dead period, he's ready to take that. Will the Orioles value that pick more?

What happens if he gets injured while on first?

Need long term deals. Longer they wait. The higher the price

Lol, this again, huh? Injury is part of sports, you can't play scared or you will ultimately fail.

Or, he can play with bubble wrap.

I know but if you do it a year earlier it might save you some. Just throw out 10 yr 250 mil and see if he takes it. At least try.

The Orioles middle infield may not be as good as they think it is

Both Jonathan Schoop and J.J. Hardy are fan favorites in Birdland. They do come with some downsides, however.

If you ask the average Orioles-follower if they’re hesitant about Jonathan Schoop and J.J. Hardy being the middle infield duo for their ball club, I doubt you’ll find many who would answer with a yes. After all, the Schoop/Hardy duo has been a staple for seemingly forever now (only three years, but who’s counting?) — they’re Baltimore fan-favorites, and for good reason.

<snip>

The idea is simple. The current Orioles middle infield duo contains plenty of sentimental value to fans. But in the grand scheme of things, are Hardy and Schoop in danger of holding the team back in 2017?

Totally agree that they need to try.

He has no reason to sign at this point.

So true. He is holding all the cards. Just wishful thinking that they could sign him early.

On a happier note, Bautista signed a one year deal with the Blue Jays.

The Orioles had a window to sign him and I think that passed last year prior to the season. He's going to get a record breaking deal in the market of like 10 years, $280M.

I think it is going to be much more than that. Yankees/Red Sox would be happy to pay him. :(

I don't think we've seen a $30M player yet and I don't think that happens too soon.

Bryce Harper or Manny. You will see it.

Other than the fact that MLB contracts are guaranteed and Manny has an injury history.

One season with a major injury that he has shown zero lingering issues from (two years removed at that). Still zero reason to not test the market.

I don't think we will with Harper, honestly.

Then again, a bird in the hand and all that.  I suspect if we made a real strong offer, Manny would take it.  Would take at least $250 million, though.
