Merged: The Secondary

Some fans just have absolutely no knowledge of Football. Let's bench Jimmy because apparently we have a Richard Sherman clone on the bench. That's the most logical think to do according to some fans. Lol unbelievable.

I still don't believe that TD was on Jimmy, or at least exclusively. It was zone cover so he was flat footed, reading the QB and diagnosing the play, when he saw him going for the pass he ran with Garcon. If Jimmy had found a way to break up the pass, it would have been an amazing play. It looked to me that Webb was late, my guess is that Webb was covering the 1/2 of the end zone and flat out didn't get there in time. I think Jimmy was supposed to get some safety help too. It could be Tampa 2, I know we play some Tampa 2 so it's possible it was that.

Also, even the best CBs in the league cannot cover for 5-7 seconds. Our pass rush certainly deserves blame for the lack of pressure and forced quick throws. You give a guy too much time and someone will get open.

Still believe that Webb had the deep middle and Powers had the flat, but that's me seeing it twice and not the all-22 film of course.

As if, the Jimmy haters are even becoming worse than the Joe haters. I know Jimmy isn't playing at an elite level, but he's damn sure better than any one else we got right now at CB.

Yeah, seeing it here, Jimmy bit a little on the fake screen.  It wasn't much, but it was just enough for Garcon to get behind him.

Yeah I think you might be rightHe surely bit on it, but I think he was expecting safety help there. He was flat footed and actively diagnosing the play. It's possible that Webb did have the deep middle because he was dropping back there, but maybe there could have been miscommunication. It just does not make sense to me that Jimmy would be flat footed, then to diagnose the play and attempt to make a jump on the ball knowing well that he does not have safety help over the top, and to actually bite on the play like that, it's not a good look honestly. You can be flat footed and diagnose plays, but if you bite on the fake in that position you're screwed. Also, looking at Reed he looked pretty open on that play against Orr, I feel like Webb abandoning the deep middle could have left Reed all alone in the end zone. It looked like Pees called the right play, Jimmy just made the wrong play.

That's how I saw it.  Webb had the deep middle to cover Reed, and only broke off to try to break up the TD once he saw the ball was getting ready to be released.  It was a good little shoulder fake by Cousins, but I think Jimmy just slipped up and made a bad play.

Yeah, my bad for thinking that Webb should have been there. It's just that in most zone coverage cases the safety has the deep half. Webb was doing exactly what he was supposed to do. Jimmy just made a bad play there.

No one, we would have to sign someone and drop someone.

OK you want to sign someone, could be a great idea.  Again, I'll ask the same question I asked the other poster that I replied to, who?

Who is available on the street that is a better CB than Jimmy that you would want signed? What I see out there are some pretty slim pickins.

As well, you can't say we should trade for someone because no team, in their right minds, would give up a #1 corner at this point in the season without a ton of future draft picks.

Even if there was someone out there, either off the street or through trade, it would be at a minimum of a week(s) before they could perform in this system.

Who is such a simple question. It's the answer that is hard and becomes even harder in-season. Without an answer, any answer, the statement just becomes irrelevant

Let me guess...these are the same geniuses who complain about Flacco and Harbs too?

I'd like to line up every single claim you've made because I promise it isn't 80%

I'm pretty he doesn't even get a passing grade by high school standards in that regard cause he's not even right here. -

Freaking Dolphins claimed Bene Benwikere off of waivers. I wonder if we put in a claim for him. We'll never know.

Need a pass rush to help out the secondary. Need to have Judon play over ZDS and KC needs to step up with a speed rush.

Yeah, lack of pass rush is hurting the secondary very badly. I probably shouldn't bring this up but looking at McPhee's contract and judging by how our pass rush has been, if there were no injury concerns for McPhee and we ended up matching that contract, then it would have totally been worth it. I think we got a great situational pass rusher in Doom, but we're badly missing a 2 down OLB. We need a guy who can just rush the passer and set the edge. Someone to rush the passer when in 1st or 2nd down pass plays.  Then we can put Doom out there as a 3rd down rusher.

If it weren't for the pass rush, our defense might be up there with Minnesota and Denver.

Except McPhee does have major injury concerns, and we really dodged a bullet by not re-signing him.

Really, hadn't seen anything on him since we last discussed it. Thanks for letting me know.

We may get to see that this week, depending on Mosley's injury. If Mosley is out, they may move Albert to ILB and activate Judon to replace his downs at OLB.

Absolutely, if there weren't any however and he was 100% healthy, it would have been totally worth it. We did dodge a huge bullet on that contract though. Totally the right move.

Asa Jackson is a thing again.  I actually like the move.  Gives you a depth option at CB and at the return spots if needed.

Yep.  Depth at 2 spots, and he might be needed come Sunday.  Jimmy, Powers, and Wright all left the game injured at a point, and Hester is still an unknown on where he's at injury wise.  He's probably the only plug and play option out there due to his familiarity.  Now, whether he actually plays well is a whole different question.

He probably will be playing sunday, might have a role returning kicks given that the team probably doesn't want Webb doing it. Need him to stay healthy.

I hope he's cured his fumble problem.  Otherwise I always liked him.  He's pretty fast, too.

He's been having quite a journey himself and unsettled so it is unlikely that his fumble problem has been treated.....

Fumbling is mostly mental problem......

Every time Shareece Wright is on the field he gets burned for a big play people can't expect the safeties to save him , he's let up big plays with Eric Weddle overshadowing him so you can't blame them . Eventho Tavon Young got knocked down by Weddle on last touchdown to Beckham , He has played extremely better than Wright whenever he's on the field. JUST GET RID OF HIM AND THE SECONDARY IMPROVES !!

Secondary, when Jimmys healthy has been hugely improved.

When Jommy has been healthy - I can't remember the last big play we gave up
