[News] Ravens And Running Back Justin Forsett Mutually Part Ways

75 posts in this topic

This is sad, indeed. But--

Not as sad as the Ray Rice fiasco. And,

If he can land somewhere with a good O-line and a good running scheme, he will be fine.

Reminds me of when Rice snagged the starting job from McGahee, he landed with the Broncos and still had a couple of pretty good seasons...even made the pro bowl. Forsett might find his groove elsewhere too.

Me thinks the Ravens spun it, so Forsett could go out with some dignity. There is NO WAY in heck, a thirty year old RB, coming back from injury, and struggling
mightily, is just arbitrarily going to give up THAT contract. Don't really know why they resigned him anyway. Doubt anyone picks him up, for anything near those $$. But now, he's got plenty of time to post pictures of himself and his family all over social media every day.

Could we maybe use the 8 million in space now to acquire, oh I don't know, a left guard that won't get Joe or our RBs landed or IR?

On*

We didn't save money by cutting him. His cap hit and fixed cost is both at 3 million. We basically broke even, so our cap space stays the same.

Not true. His only cap hit was his base salary $3,000,000. No signing or roster bonuses = no dead money. No dead money = you save what he was earning. Cut him and save $3 million (minus the 4 games you paid him for).

There is his base salary of 3 million dollars, and dead money of 3 million dollars ( fixed cost). Taking the difference gives you a value of 0$ in savings. Unless I am missing something I don't think your math is adding up.

Ouch! I was thinking the same thing too...why would Forsett at this stage in his career, as a RB nonetheless, forfeit a guaranteed spot on an NFL roster to head into the open market at this point of the season. After all, with the Ravens, he's only one good game away from regaining the starting job...unless, the team pretty much thinks he's done. in hindsight, the way they dangled him out there during that roster maneuvering suggests they were comfortable with losing him. He could get luck and land somewhere, but I highly doubt he initiated this move as reported.

Sucks but kind of just makes you wish we parted ways with him the first time before week 1 so his salary wasn't guaranteed. Sounds harsh but hey its business. If we were gonna get rid of him anyway - and its not like he contributed to any of the 3 victories besides in pass protection maybe.

Hard to tell if it was him in decline or the o line ( or a combination of both) - but even when we got him the ball in space he didn't make anybody miss. The writing  was on the wall. Dixon is the future.

Farewell Justin. Class act.

Not surprise by this move whatsoever cause the handwriting was on the wall this past Sunday with West getting the start imo.

Well, the run better improve now...otherwise I'm calling it: Justin was made the fall guy for an inept run strategy. If the run improves it means that Dixon and/or West simply had more production to offer than Forsett. If it doesn't improve it means the Ravens brass threw a loyal, committed, dedicated, and classy player under the bus. Guess time will tell.

Class act. I'm sure he'll be called-on to play some downs in a limited role for some team this year and beyond. He'll probably extend his career a few more years that way. Only wishing him the best. Wow...that happened.

Ravens family concept is really playing games. First, they cut him then bring him back and cut him again. Should have let him go the first time around, Screwed up way to send a message to the team.

It makes sense if there isn't a ton of dead money... anyone know what the deal is in dead money this year and next?

Justin was a class act on and off the field with a work ethic beyond reproach.  Sorry to see him go but I do thank Justin for all he has done for this team, the Baltimore Community and communities beyond.  Wishing you the best of luck in all your future endeavors Justin!

Honestly, I must say that something about this just doesn't sit right with me, something just doesn't fit.  With the situation occurring earlier where it appeared that Justin tried to help the organization out in an agreement btw he and the F.O.,  Justin was the best pass protecting RB as admitted by the team, West received only five carries in the first half. With 11 mins. left in the 2nd quarter the longest run of the season was 21 yrds by West and he didn't touch the pigskin again until the third quarter, that makes Harbaugh's comments about Justin after the Oakland loss even stranger, lol. ( http://bit.ly/1j1xUT1 ) Sometimes I wish this organization would just shoot it straight!

Foresett is a class act. I think Kubiak's scheme helped him shine. Disappointed that Ravens can't copy Kubiak's run scheme effectively. I'm not sure the Ravens really value him. This move suggested he just held a spot until Dixon was able to return. I hope he performs as he did in preseason.

Also, the younger backs have shown potential. I expect other veterans to lose their spot. Wright will eventually lose time to Davis or Young. I don't understand why Judon is not used more. He should get more reps in practice and snaps during the game.

Agreed. Very interesting. I wish for more transparency, as well. He said Justin wouldn't be used because we were looking for a 'spark'...? Does this mean that we are changing our blocking schemes back to a 'pre-Kubiak' Era and Justin wouldn't better fit or is he really saying, "He simply got beat-out and has lost a step and we're freeing him up hoping he finds a better fit out there to continue playing if that's his choice..."

Sometimes I wish I had a FO Decoder Ring.

I respect Justin but this wasn't him saying I want to be with another team, they just cut him then put sugar on the story. Healthy scratch then West got over a hundred, that was a straight up cut. But the PR want us to believe he said ok I'll find another job before being fired.

Shoot straight? Seriously? This is a copycat league and Hoodie doesn't shoot straight, so Harbs won't either.... Until a new and improved way of dealing with the public and media comes to fruition.

The only thing that diminished Forsett's effectiveness was Trestman getting away from the outside stretch zone running. As a result, the entire running game sputtered. Justin can still be effective, just not so much running between the tackles and overpowering linebackers. Not his style.

I personally think the guy was a class act in a low class league. I also think he lost a step or two but I am so sick of Harbaugh. He can't call offense, he can't call defense, he can not manage the clock, he makes bad decisions during the game, loses most challenges, talks out of both sides of his mouth, than has the nerve to say that it's a competitive league. It may be competitive for the players but not the coaches. I see a lot of similarities between Brian Billick and John Harbaugh. They both recycle coaches from the pool of failures. I can not for the life of me understand why Trestman is the OC. I wish they would have made Kubiak the head coach and let Harbaugh go. Billick made it 9 years as head coach of the Ravens and this is Harbaugh's 9th year. In my opinion, it's time to part ways with John. In 8 years, the only time the offense had any spark was under Kubiak. Here are the Offensive rankings from 2008 to 2015 (18, 13, 22, 15, 16, 29, 12, 14). They are currently ranked 19th. Over 8 years, the average ranking for yards is 18th. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. I truly believe that one of Flacco's biggest challenges is having to adjust to all the incompetent OC's. In the last 5 years, he has had to deal with Cam Cameron (fired), Jim Caldwell (fired), Gary Kubiak (hired away by John Elway), Marc Trestman (firing date to be announced). Anyone that expects a top 10 offense is expecting something that has never happened under Harbaugh or Billick. You have to go back to 1997.

Well, gee. Without Forsett, their YPC went from an average of 3.3 a game to 5.1 this past week. I guess that was improvement! Time has ALREADY told.
