[News] John Harbaugh Discusses Roster Decisions At Tight End And Running Back

19 posts in this topic

Tight end Darren Waller is eligible to come off the suspension list and someone would have to be cut or placed on injured reserve if the Ravens want to add him to the roster. And with Kenneth Dixon set to return from injury, what will the Ravens do with running back Justin Forsett?

I see Waller being put on the 53 and Williams on IR. I also see Forsett sadly being cut and going with West, Dixon & Allan. JMO.

Well if Maxx Williams knee needs time, its an easy call to put Waller in for him so he can heal up. Both play ST well and another big red zone target couldn't hurt either.

Def a possibility. Hard to imagine keeping him. Sadly it is a really really bad sign when you get benched over basically two rookies who are certainly not proven backs, but then again, neither is Forsett. He is getting 3 million guarenteed this year. Can't really feel that bad for him

Sadly, it more and more seems that Forsett was only a standout in Kubiak's system. He was really superb in that season... but nothing really before and after that...

Maxx has not been used. He would be an up and coming receiving TE if he played for Pittsburgh.

This just goes to show you, the draft hype that leads to nowhere. Maxx Williams is a completely ineffective pro TE and marginal special teams player. He was touted as the best TE in the entire draft in 2015. Waller and Boyle, 5th and 6th rounders the same year have both looked far better. Nutty.

I think Buck gets cut. I think that's why they sat Forsett - to see if Buck does anything with his limited carries. If he shows enough then maybe they cut Forsett but I didn't see anything special from him in the Oakland game.

Too early.
He had more catches as a rookie last year than Dennis Pita had as a rookie.

Also, He set the record for Catches by a Rookie tight end more than Todd Heap. WAY WAY too early.

How? He set the Record for Catches by a rookie tight end. How is that ineffective? Waller was put on IR Last year and Suspended 4 games this year, and Boyle has been Suspended Twice in 2 years and he is on his last chance, How is that Looking better?

My feelings on the subject if Dixon comes back this week, Buck gets waved. Dixon is a better ball carrier and as good if not better at receiving. If no one picks Buck up, he would then go to the PS.

or

They just wave Forsett outright, He's not going to be here next year anyway. Kubiak will most likely jump on him fairly quickly if released. If not, there are plenty of needy teams out there right now and he should find a spot easily.

The stats don't necessarily show it but I think Waller has looked more intriguing in camp and in preseason. Doesn't mean much until it shows up during the season I know- but so far maxx has just looked out of shape and in over his head. Obviously the expectations were set a little high being a second rounder and touted as the best tight end in the draft...but you would think he would have atleast showed a little more potential. If I werent such a die hard fan you could almost forget he was even on the team. When comparing him to waller who was drafted in the seventh...if you had no idea where they were drafted and just looked at both of them unbiasedly.. I think many would choose waller. I can almost guarentee waller will be activated within the week... So we will soon see what he's got. Who would've thought coming into the season with how stacked we were that  pitta would be our number one and we'd be looking to waller for an extra spark?

You don't have to cut Buck to make space for Dixon; Dixon is already on the 53 man roster. You only need to make a space for Waller if he is to be on the roster and in such case, I see Williams being placed on IR.

You have your opinion, I have mine. Never said anything about creating space for Waller or that they had to cut Buck to make space for Dixon considering he's already on the roster. I was referring to having 4 running backs on the roster which we don't need. (1) It would be waste of a roster spot (2) useless to not dress 2 RB's every week. But hey, It's been settled. Guess we just go back to not seeing Buck dress.
