[News] Late For Work 10/3: 9 Takeaways From Ravens' Loss To Oakland Raiders

76 posts in this topic

We got answers about how good Ravens can be. Top priority is getting Joe Flacco better protection. All eyes will be glued on injury report for clues about Ronnie Stanley’s return. Self-inflicted mistakes hurt. Defense better than final score indicated. West earned another start. More deep passes, please. Only three remaining undefeated teams.

"7) More Deep Passes, Please"

Aha. Go ahead any try more deep passes with the kind of "O-line" Flacco had as a "protection"...

I dare you.

It's amazing how Kendrick Lewis needed no more than one play to remind us why we were out on the market for a good safety...

What happened to those down the field attempts with Perriman? A catch here, a drop there. Need to take advantage of his speed.

I honestly don't know why he is still on this team.

The run game was established and that benefitted us. Weak Oline really hurt us and it's a good way to get Flacco injured. He took way too many blows. Oline is the weakness of our Ravens, it's so easy to see. And many teams down the road will attack us on this Achilles heel obviously, so it's got to be fixed.

One loss isn't end of world, but the weaknesses that have exsisted since week 1 proved to be too much to overcome this time. I was really hoping we'd get in Tucker's range. Yeah probably should have just let him kick from 68 yards. But,... this is all good review to repair and prepare for next match. As usual, you fought hard. Which is commendable. But fixing the major problems which are truly a major issue for this offense, is imo the priority rather than saying "we always find a way to win, we win ugly." Yeah grit you have no doubt, but it's going to be an issue of keeping such a demanding momentum going. Better to look for other ways to bring strength to the Offense rather than relying on "finding ways to win" by the skin of your teeth.

Well if he is always going to need a clean pocket to throw the ball correctly it is not going to happen. Joe needs to be better than what we are paying him to do. Rookies are out playing Joe. Tired of the ineptitude of the Offense whether it is Joe, the O-line, Receivers or the Coordinator. It is embarrassing for a 9 Veteran QB to play the way Joe does.

He can't go deep!!! He has no time. Trestman calls same plays every week, our offense has been regressing since he arrived. His pathetic. The weak link on defense is Shareece Wright. He gets burned every week. might as well have nobody over there.

Nine Takeaways....

1. Missed Tackles - Aiken on the punt return, ZDarius on the long run.

2. Penalties - Big run plays, big pass plays all negated by holding penalties. And the Coup de Grace - Wallace's stupid penalty that gave the Raiders the ball on the 33 to start the game winning drive.

3. Ryan Jensen is bad.

4. Jeremy Zuttah is worse

5. West ran well but still has fumbling issues - it's what got him cut from Ten.

6. Steve Smith is a beast.

7. Don't blame Harbaugh for taking the penalty - blame the defense for giving up 24 yards on 3rd & 18.

8. No pass rush = loss.

9. Concussion Protocol claims it's 1st victim. Webb had to sit out and Lewis played out of position otherwise it may have turned out differently. I can see this being an issue - having a team's QB have to take a seat for the last drive because he's being evaluated. What do you think would happen if Tom Brady had to come out for a series and Jimmy G threw a game losing INT.

More deep passes? Seriously, he didn't have time to get a crossing route off before getting crushed...The left side of the line was horrible, and i said it last week, if Lewis was not a scratch, he should have gotten the start at LT, as he has started every game, and IMO a better option than Hurst, Jensen looked exposed as well, and why we didn't give Urschel a shot after Flacco had been hit for like the 15th time is a clue to me......If it weren't for West's strong running in the 2nd half, and had Flacco thrown as much as he did in the 1st half, Flacco would probably still be in the Ice tub, if not seriously injured......and Pees, with the prevent defense when we took the lead, is why he needs to go....Keep doing what works, and continue to put some pressure on the QB......

We have scored a whopping 10 points in the 1st Quarter and a total of 16 points through 4 games. If our defense wasn't great this year we would be 0-4. Thanks Trestman. Flacco's O-Line is blamed far too often. He holds on to the ball a long as possible for guys to open up. His style of play includes taking hits to make big throws. Much like Ben. We need Kubiak's Play Action, Deep shot offense back!!!!!!!!!!

Its not embarrassing, when you have 2 second string players playing on the left side this is what you get. Actually all of Joe's stats were better than Carr's. Also, the special teams played lousy and gave them bad field position the whole game, but I don't see that on you're complaint list.

My takeaways were we played a good game but not good enough.

Defense got not pressure whatsoever.

The Oline could not block with out holding.

Trestman needs to run the ball more. he did it a half to late. Once he started calling the runs more the ball Raiders couldn't just tee off on Joe and we scored 2 TDs as a result.

Harbaugh was dumb not to accept the penalty on 4th down. We had them stopped. Pushing Janokowski out to the 37 would not have made a difference. You always have to decline the penalty on a 4th down.

Jensen should have been replaced with Urschel.

Joe made a bad decision on the last play as SSS was open to the left on an out route but Joe forced it into a tight window in the middle of the field.

S. Wright needs help over top if he will continue to start. He is the weak link and teams will continue to target him.

And you can't throw more deep passes when you have that much pressure.

As the running game got untracked in the 2nd half he did get better, 27 points is nothing to sneeze at or belittle.

Also, Aiken running into the punt returner on a Fair Catch, How do you do that? He wasn't even push into him. Then Mike Wallace Spiking the ball near a Raider, he needs to wait turn away from the defender then spike.

(in my best Stephen A. Smith voice): I wish the front office knew how disappointing it is for fans to come to this website today and not see an announcement that Marc Trestman has been fired. His performance as an OC is not only flagrantly terrible, it is downright immoral! Your quarterback is less than a year removed from an ACL injury and you line him up behind a line that is effective as a bunch of tackling dummies, you fail to include your fullback in the game plan, and you pass the ball 52 times? Are you out of your mind? If you're a lineman and you commit a holding penalty to save your recently injured $100-million QB from getting clobbered, I can forgive you; but if you're an Offensive Coordinator and you fail to plan for the game and you stand on the sideline and watch your offense fail for the entire first half and you fail to change anything schematically until- presumably- your head coach put his foot knee deep in your keister at half time, AND if this has been going on for more than a year now AND your offense has scored only 6 touchdowns through 4 games against the Bills, the Browns, the Jaguars, and the Raiders, YOU HAVE GOT TO GO!!

many agree,i'd say like everywhere he went there was great fantasy numbers every week, but no real scoring and no real winning, wer'e turning into the BEARS and FLACCO is turning into CUTLER.

we are now the BEARS,big fantasy numbers but no points and FLACCO is becoming CUTLER,if he gets this or he gets that or in time the offense will gel,we'll many teams don't have the same players they had in camp but find a way to ajust,if they saw FLACCO was under pressure early on how bout movin him around a bit, half roll outs, check down guys, shotgun, which by the way he does best in,big ben stays in shotgun, gets the ball out so fast there is no pressure on him,it's like they start a game and come hell or high water whatever we did all week wer'e sticking with it!

Except Carr threw 4 touchdown passes which Joe has yet to do this year. Glad to see Joe stats beat Carr but not where it really counted the final score.

I think that's a little far. Cutler is down right aweful. Flacco just isn't getting any protection and the run/pass game plan isn't balanced

Only stat that matters is W's and L's, and this was a game we could have won, had Pees kept his foot on the gas on their game winning drive, and if Flacco had anytime to actually throw the ball, yes he under threw a lot of guys this year, but still he had basically zero time when they knew he had to throw.....

The o-line is pretty much the source of all our problems. It's the reason we couldn't run the ball till the 2nd half of our 4th game, why we keep asking Joe how he felt after the game bc the shots he keeps taking, why we don't go deep as often, and why we keep getting off to slow starts. Prime example, our first 2 drives of the game started well, then the o-line negated our big gains with penalties. Probably would've scored at lest a field goal on one of our first 2 drives had it not been for the o-line.

He fumbled but recovered it, Flacco's fumble was recovered by them....And Hest had a fumble he recovered as well. With Hest seems we will have to take the good with the bad, as he did have a nice return...
