[News] Terrance West Leads Shuffled Running Game To Better Results

16 posts in this topic

not running the ball enough was y we lost this game, even if we're getting little gains, its ok, just stick with run and to open the passing game, but it looked like we got away from the run a lot in some drives, our bread and butter is the run game, we need to fix that and NOT GET AWAY from running the ball, but we'll be fine. 3-1

I think West played great and I thought he should have started after game 1. At that time it was clear to about everybody that Forsett could not excel in the run game as they were exercising it. I guess my only criticism of the run game was why so little so late when clearly we were able to execute. I think it was 26 yards on 5 carries in the first half which is over 5 YPC. Why wouldn't you run more? I'll tell me why, because this is a Trestman offense. The run game succeeded almost in spite of Trestmans calls. And you can tell he can't call a run game, I went back and looked and after every successful run, he ran it again. Even after a 20 yard run play, he repeats the exact same call, every time. Instead of opening it up and taking a shot while they are reeling. Trestman has passes to running backs out of the backfield and short quick passes. That has been his offense everywhere he goes. He never has and no matter how much Harbs would like him to, he can't, won't, or doesn't know how to call a game plan that calls for running the ball regularly.

yep. Too much passing on 1st and 2nd down. West got into a groove, but they wouldn't rely on him more.

West needs to continue to start. I think they should have Foresett active as well. He is still very effective catching out of the back field.

i completelly agree, Trestman is ridiculous, at the half the ravens did run the ball 5 times and throw 29, Joe can't win a game like that, we all know that, except Trestman, obviously

Ravens nation don't trust Trestmen....Are you listening Harbs. If you allow him to derail this team you're head will be on a chopping block Harbs.

113 yards on 21 attempts.... West averaged just under 5.4 yards per attempt, but they passed the ball 3 times in a row when they needed to pick up 10 yards for a field goal. This is despite having 1 timeout still in hand- correct? If they had run the ball once in that series and picked up 5 yards, they'd have more options on third down and even if they didn't pick up any more yards, they'd have the option of a 62-63 (instead of 68) yard kick and that is not out of the realm of possibility for Tucker. Trestman had better be on a short leash after this B.S.

I agree with you 100%.

Despite the garbage bins we have playing on our O-line, and despite our pass rush department who decided to take a collective day off, it was Trestman and his incompetence that cost us the game.

He probably got an earful from Harbs at halftime, or just found the pages in his playbook with running plays on them and it was actually nice to see us actually running the ball. Only to go 4 straight passes yet again in a situation where we needed max 10 yards with running game that was rolling.

This has to be the last warning for Trestman. We saw that we are able to run the ball if we just stick to it. If his b s costs us one more game he needs to go.

You gotta like Terrence West. He runs hard and gives you 100% on each play. He did his job. Sadly, a lot of other guys didn't. Dropped passes, passes thrown either in the dirt or to the defenders, underthrown, pass protection problems, and a defense that reverted back to last year when it gave up long gains on third down. That last series from the Raiders was ridiculous. They went through the Ravens like a knife through butter. How many passes did they complete past our safeties? At least four. Ugly, but we still could have won if not for that awful last series by the offense.

Watch the game.

The Raiders were playing press coverage & bringing their safeties up to the line of scrimmage. 10 players in the box and YOU want Trestman to run more. Kinda dumb to run against 10 in the box. That IS this reason why there was no run game in the 1st half. Once the Raiders jumped out on top, their LBers played back, their safeties played back. Guess what? It opened up the run game.

1st series - Pass to Wallace 17 yards. West 2 yard Run. West 6 yard run - holding penalty. West for no gain. Pass to Aiken 20 yards - holding penalty. Pass to Juice 15 yards - PUNT. So, 3 runs for 8 yards, 3 passes for 52 yards. What are you going to call next series?

Calling run plays for the sake of calling run plays is just plain dumb. You call what is working. And you of course are ASSUMING that Joe NEVER changes the play at the line of scrimmage.
