The Good, Bad and UGLY week 4 against the Raiders

Wagner provided inexcusably bad protection on that play.

Pretty much this. The commentator said that Flacco should have peaked behind him (has any quarterback in a helmet ever been able to turn far enough to see directly behind them?), but that's idiotic when you're trying to, you know, pass the ball down the field.

Wagner completely whiffed on his block. I think he pushed him a little for some extra momentum.

honestly i was more confident in tucker hitting a 67 yard field goal than making that 4th down

I'm not as doom and gloom as many of you guys are here, and I know that's mostly emotion after losing a winnable game.  What's clear to me is that we do have the talent on this team, but it's not clicking right now, especially on the offensive side of the ball.  Overall, if we can get the trenches going, this could be a very good team.  The OL is obviously a huge question mark, and the DL (mostly the edge guys) need to be able to get to the QB.

Can show you plenty of similar situations where other good HCs have accepted the penalty there.

There's plenty of scenarios that lead to the Raiders not scoring any points by taking the penalty, and that's kind of the goal. Conceding a FG sort of feels like giving up to me, especially with a defense that was playing well.

Completely disagree. We all know Janikowski's range, and this ain't the 2000 defense. Hell, it's not even the 2010 defense. That decision alone caused a 4 point swing in a game we lost by 1.

Depends. Based on what I've seen so far, I'd say Oakland is clearly better than Cincinnati. Nothing scary about the Bengals defense, and the Raiders offense is significantly better from what I've seen.

Defense played well. Raiders had good starting field positions(Flaccos fumble, punt returns,...). But please put Jimmy on Crabtree on those endzone fades. Correa is a non factor, I don't see him as a pass rusher at all. Judon needs to get activated next week.

Yes. I would have felt better seeing the Tucker kick come up short than that nonsense from Aiken.

if we ever play the raiders again (ie playoffs) i'd really like someone to kick King ( the punters ) behind and block his cocky punts

I've noticed this and it's pretty disturbing since most ACL tears allow quarterbacks to fix their footwork and mechanics from their waste down. He needs to be stepping into these throws more fully.

Hard to step in the pocket when Zuttah is your Center

I'm not putting all the blame on Joe because like you said Wagner did a terrible job. With how the game was going regarding pressure, Joe needed to aware that someone could be chasing him. I know it's difficult when you are looking downfield but he has to do it.

Hurst is a curse and the rest of the oline is the pallbearers. Coaches still didn't learn from last year that Hurst is not fit to start.

Up by 6 with 4 minutes left and we couldnt hold the damn lead. The penalties and the dropped passes. Well Aiken I guess you now know why you havent been playing. Games was ours. We blew it. This will leave a bad taste in my mouth all week. It was ours for the taking.

They're waiting for Flacco to tear his ACL again. So ridiculous.

How is it we "won" all the stats (passing, running, TOP, 3rd down %, etc.) and lost the game?  SMH!

because carr can put the ball in the endzone from 20 and less and flacco cant.

I think we learned quite a bit.

We pretty much know this defense is legit. They basically had one bad drive and made a couple poor decisions, but other than that, they were very good against one of the better offenses in football.

The offense is what it is... inconsistent. We look like we can run the ball better, but our depth on the offensive line is poor once again and we need a healthy unit in order to succeed long term.

Plus, from what I'm seeing in the AFC, we could easily have just lost to a playoff team.

I just can't call allowing 28 points "very good."

Maybe, maybe if there were 3 Raiders touchdowns on turnovers and special teams... maybe. But that wasn't the case.

I hope that this loss doesn't come back to bite us for a Wild Card spot.

Good point. Oakland could very well be in the wild card race and this win would be a tiebreaker against Baltimore if it came down to it.

Of course, when your teams o-line looks the way this one does it's tempting to go on a "Playoff?!" rant.

Agree, but after what you said about Wright last week, you can put a positive spin on just about anything.

Sort of. The initial pressure that forced Joe to escape the pocket was from the left side, which I believe was Hurst or Jensen. One of them got beat very quickly, and Joe escaped that, but was forced to stop looking down field in order to escape.

I thought Wagner gave up on his block a bit early, but he did block long enough in a normal pass play for the ball to come out. It was the initial pressure that sort of set it in motion.

You're gonna want to go back and watch that because Wagner just got flat out beat.

To the people saying that bc we lost this game we can't beat Pitt, Cinci or NE... have you watched the NFL ever?

How you play against one team has 0 to do with how you'll play against another.

I mean we made Buffalo look terrible. They've since thrashed AZ and NE, arguably the favorites in the NFC and AFC respectively.

And yes NE didn't have Tom Brady but that doesn't explain the shut out and inability to stop them on defense.

Its a match up league. We're 3-1. Certain things are improving (run game)... and we still almost pulled out a win against a good team (they're 3-1 too) and really slowed down one of the best offenses in the league. If Stanley would've played that game I think it's a much different result. Hurst 1on1 against a world beater like Mack is a recipe for disaster.

Were ok. We'll rebound to go 4-1 get into the bye and work out the kinks.

Range is for distance. Not only do you have to kick it far enough to go over the uprights, you also have to kick it between the uprights. Its laughable notions like this and the commentators thinking that Tucker's "range", based on kicking rush free, stress free kicks in pregames, is like 65 yards. This is a real football game, not pregame warmups.

So what's actually real? The guy is 56% in his career from 50+. That's his "range". His range is making that kick about 1 out of every 2 times.

I definitely recognize the negatives, no question.  There are a ton.  I just like to look on the positive side of things, and the good thing is that they actually do exist this year.  Now we just need to get them all working together, but that's obviously the hard part.

Exactly my thoughts, but something has to happen with the o-line. Joe's going to get injured at the rate of how porous that line was today. The o-line has been sloppy all year, though, even Yanda had been having penalty problems prior to this game. The holding calls were inexcusable.

try telling that to people on this board. I'd give carr flaccos money. He's legit ...i trust him to make the plays. just dont have that with flacco. Even last year i was saying from what i saw, carr > flacco ..and flacco was hardly sacked at all last year
