Opportunities

22 posts in this topic

Remember when Dawan Landry got hurt? In comes Jim Leonhard and he does a fantastic job. When players get injured, this is the opportunity for others to step up and shine.
Suggs might not play? We have Jameel Mcclain who has had an outstanding rookie season with 2.5 sacks. I think he can step up and have a big game on Sunday.
Rolle might not play? If Walker gets too many penalties or Ivy gets beat too often, put in Zbikowski and Nakamura and play with a 3 or 4 saftety defense. Have a semi-zone semi-man coverage defense. This defense is all about madness and chaos. Let's amp up the madness and chaos to the max.
Thoughts?

I agree. Walker is good as long as he doesn't get stupid penalties. Douglas et. al can fill the gap for Suggs.
Yeah, Leonard really sucked last week when he hit that big RB and popped the ball out. ;)
oh yeah, and that was a TE, not a running back. He recovered the RBs fumble, he didnt force it.
interesting but Leonhard and Nakamura's tackling scares me...
This was a joke, right? Leohnard is one of the best tacklers we have. Perfect technique and just about never misses!!

The way I look at it; fresh legs. These guys filling in are young and not beat down from playing an every down position all year. Especially after last weeks slug-fest.

Great post foreversunny. I agree something different needs to happen like 4 safeties or 5 or 6 linebackers because thats where our talent is.
Cover 2 with fabian and reed being our deep men and everyone else playing up on the hook to curl zones or flats.
Ruki Leonhard and Fabian can all play Man Coverage.
Zbikowski, Reed, and Walker can all blitz well and play Zone coverage.

AS LONG AS COREY IVY STAYS OFF THE FIELD I'M OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My philosphy on this game. Is figure a way to get pressure on Big Ben. We get that pressure, we can eliminate the deep pass attempts (like we did the second game). They option to the short slant passes and trying to establish the run.

If we can get the pressure, we can also force big ben to make mistakes, like throwing while going down. I'm not for throwing to many DBs out there. What we really need to concentrate on , is applying pressure.

Once again, Ozzie has done (at least in my oppinion) a fantastic job at addressing the depth issue, many people would question "why?" and "what for?".. well my friends.... its because of situations like this one we have in Baltimore right now. I dont really think that the Ravens Team and its players are TOO TOO worried about Suggs not being able to go come gameday, why should they? sure Suggs is a phenominal player with a nose for the football with that athletism but hey we got back up players that can come in and potentially play as good if not better (for the Time being that is) and being the situation as it is... the AFC Championship game... everyone's level of play is elevated to a whole new high (or standard). What that means is that the players and the team should not be worried about the things they cant control (Suggs Injury) but more so, How can better themselves from it and become a closer unit as a team out there on the football field. I Dont think that the Team has any doubt in their minds about how well Barnes or whoever it may be, can play on the field on gameday, i strongly believe that every player out there has what it takes to get the job done for their rspective units and fellow Comrades. You dont see the team dwelling on Sugg's injury issue and the What if's do you? ..... highly doubt it simply because there are other players that we have on the team currently that can play, and play exceptionally well at that. To Prove what i mean is just by taking a simple look at one of our Rookie Players out there this season... numbber 53 Jamaal McClain on defense, he's really stepped it up a notch and played quite well for us, he might not be the most effective force out there on the field, but he's still a effectivepart of this defense and what it likes to do to the opposition. The Team know very well about Suggs Injury, so in them knowing that bit of info, they have been preparing not one, not two, but THREE players to fill Suggs slot this week, and i mean if the team didnt have confidence in having their back ups play the position(s) then why would they be preparing 3 guys in the first place. But one thing's for certain though, Rex Ryan will certainly have is fair share of Schemes, Blitzes and Defensive packages dialed up to a Tee, implementing to put every player out there on our side of the football, in the best possible spot/situation for them to make a play or two. The only thing for the players to do when the opportunity arises for them to do so, is to make it all happen.

Actually it's called mix coverage. It's only called combo when you blitz, i.e. Combo Blitz. ;)

All I know is that the Ravens will find a way to bring it all together and try and take this game. Backups or no backups they are all still Ravens and I root for them still even in this difficult situation they face. Above all the injuries, above all the critics saying our D is tired and getting too old, above that loud crowd at the Steeler stadium Ravens have shown they can rise to the occasion when needed. When I watched that Patriots vs Ravens game last yr I knew this team was beyond great. In that game our Injured D stepped up, our crappy O-line blocked and even Kyle Boller played like he was suposed to do. I think this game will be just like that except Flacco and the offense will get us over the hump, YOU JUST GOTTA BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good post.

I agree, Rex has done a fabulous job of a "plug and play" defense. If Suggs is out for the game he'll implement Mcclain in a defense that adapts to the disadvantage. As in Mcclain won't have to do the stuff Suggs does, just play your game and this defense has got your back.

doesnt really matter who they put out there, whoever is may be, will have the talent and the people around him to really focus on his job and what he has to do to complement this furious defense and what we try to do out there on the football field. It may be McClain, it may be Barnes, it might be someone else, OR..... OR Rex might just keep mixing it up every now and then during the course of the game, bringng all 3 guys (whom the Team is preparing) into the game. Like i said before, Rex will almost with certainy, Insert the Best player(s) into the defensive gameplan, so what it all boils down to is Rex Ryan being able to insert the best possible players into the best possible Situations for them to excel and create a play for us to take advantage of.
