[News] Ravens Confident Their Offense Will Take Off, And It's Not Far Away

43 posts in this topic

There's no doubt the offense is currently a work in progress, there are plenty of new and/or returning parts learning to play together and that takes time.

But for me it's really been a question of play-calling and creativity to create favorable match ups within the offense. I feel like each week, we get a glimpse of something ( week 1 the TD to Wallace from trips is a perfect example of a formation and the routes really complementing each other while exploiting the defensive personnel. S.Smith had an inside route, Wallace matched up with a safety going deep. ) .

This team has a variety of WRs, multiple TEs and a very good receiving FB in Juice even if they came out in base formation they could still audible, or motion guys to get LBs in space.

Also it seems like we are one of the worse screen and dump off teams. It kills me when I see all these teams doing smoke screens, HB screens etc and that quick little play goes for 15+ yards. Then the Ravens run a dump off or screen and we get maybe 4 yards or less.  The execution of those plays definitely need to improve and the playmakers need to make plays after the catch.

So we play the lowest ranked defense in NFL, the Raiders...yeah I'd think our offense can take off playing them, certainly hope so. But when we play the Giant, Eagles, Bengals, Jets...NE defenses later this year (Giants game is 3 weeks away), that's when we not only need to have taken off...we need to be a cruising altitude by then ? So,...yeah...Raiders game is def the one to take off with. Then the Washington game...again not thus far a strong defense, can be another one. Lose these next two games...that's not a good sign. Win these next two games it's not a 'great' indication of O strength (facing weaker defenses 2 weeks in row), but it's 5-0 and hopefully is enough warm up for the pounding defenses we face to come following these next 2 weeks.

They are confident? Not me. We will continue to kick 5 FG's a game until we get another qb. (at least on a consistent basis) They have been saying this for 9 years. We need to get better, we need to stop making poor decisions. Frankly it is ridiculous at this point for Flacco to be so stymied by defenses that he cannot make audibles and correct reads. I personally just think although he is an accurate passer and can get hot against the right team, he just can not perform any better than what he has shown thus far. Inconsistent and questionable control of the offensive scheme. They run the exact same handoff play on every first down and get no yardage. That is not effective offense. No pulling lineman. No blocking down with motion. Just hand it off to Forsett and run into the pile for no gain. Completely inept either on the players or coaching staff. Wake up Baltimore.

The awfulness of his play is proven by the fact that he completed 20 passes in a row, and we failed to score a touchdown and his passing rating ended up with a 64 rating and 5 yard per completion average. Meaningless stats if you cant convert. There is no attacking mentality in this team and every time they secure a lead, they sit on it and completely shut down.

Failed to score a TD BC of a Wallace drop that Joe placed right in the bread basket. That would have extended the streak and probably put the game away. One or two plays go wrong and it can effect the whole perception of a players performance. He gets his arm hit and a ball gets tipped on the 2 ints. Big deal they weren't awful decisions. In fact it seems like when Flacco audibles and calls his own play is when they have the most succuss...like an elite qb should. Hence the Wallace TD against buffalo. If the o line gets it together and the running game starts humming even to an extent then watch out BC this passing game has the potential to explode once we become less one dimensional. 3 deep threats with a guy like sss underneath and a safety blanket in Pitta? Pshh forget about it. Adjustments will be made and Dixon will provide a spark. If not then we can talk. Either way I'd rather be 3-0 with room to improve than 0-3  and lighting up the scoreboard.

I have seen absolutely NO improvement since the Buffalo game. The line still can't run block or give Joe time to throw. When he does have time, he still short arms passes, underthrowing receivers, throwing off his back foot like he is shooting a fade away jumper. An honest assessment would be that Trestman's offense doesn't work. Throwing the ball three yards behind the line of scrimmage on third and three is ridiculous. Where is all this offense that the Ravens media crowed about before the season? Perriman stinks. He is the same ball dropper now that he was in college. Another wasted number one pick, just like Elam.

Always a pleasure to read your awesome and insightful posts.......we should probably dump perriman and trestman right? and Joe too eh?? LOL

My worry since Kubiak left was the running game left with him. Trestman is way too flippant about each game has it's own identity and we're committed to what works not forcing the run. We ain't the Patriots where we can run 50 times one week and then throw it 50 times the next with anyone as QB and win. Our 2 best offensive years were Kubiak zone stretch run and the play action pass game off the run, but somehow Trestman can't figure out how to mimic calling a similar game to the guy that just won the superbowl or 2 if you count what we did with him as OC in past 5 years. Flacco is not a throw it 40 times a game QB that we can live with because 40 throws = 2 int minimum. Harbaugh needs to tell him watch tape of 2014 and tell him we do this or I find someone who can.

not that easy when new rules have taken the effectiveness out of the zbs. even denver is only averaging 83 yards a game. we need to change the personnel on the o-line if needed and try different blocking schemes

Blaming Trestman for a lack of a run game is so premature and just goes to show people are not looking around the league at other teams run average! Smh Trestman is gonna shut alot of you up and "I can't wait"!

I'm not so sure about that, but I hope so. Running out of the shotgun is kind of like drawing the play on a chalkboard and showing it to the defense. His play calling didn't seem better when Flacco was out and I think the running backs played a bit better at the end of the season. Its bound to get better cause it cannot get much worse.

Agreed JJ.

First off, correct the dropped pass problem, if we end up with worse numbers then you can blame Joe if you want. Next is stop running out of the shotgun Trestman. Go to some play action from the I or split. Lastly, Trestman, keep using the tight ends..this will eventually lead teams to make mistakes on the long pass. reminder: Payton Manning has the worst INT record in all of NFL, but you didn't see them blaming him for winning the close games.

you can check me on this but I believe the dropped pass totals so far were- 5 in the first game, 5 in the second game and 4 in the 3rd game. (2 of which were TD passes) that is 14 drops to 4 Ints, I think the Receivers have the poorer edge.

PA doesn't click if the run game is sputtering
