Timmy Jernigan

36 posts in this topic

Okay, he deserves his own thread. It appears he's taken the next step and is putting the pressure on in every game. 3 sacks in three games, almost surpassing his total from last season. Very impressive from a 3-4 DE.  He's been absolute money from us. I've been a huge fan of his since the beginning and always knew he had this kind of potential. He's flashed a lot the previous two seasons but seems to have found his groove. Lock him up Ozzie.

up to this point he's probably the best defensive performer in the league. 3 sacks multiple tipped passes. beast mode. he'll probably get paid well by another team and become irrelevant. typically what happens with our defensive FAs, Paul Kruger, Art Brown, Mcphee, McClain.

If he keeps this up I think he'll become one of the star players we try to keep as long as we can, like we did with Jimmy and haven't done on the DL since Haloti.

Eventually our cap relief will get better once Monroe dead money is gone including Webb's impending FA. I hope our cap situation improves.

Why can't we enjoy a player for any amount of time? As soon as they play well it's "Guess he's gone".

This board just so pessimistic for some reason.

The interior line has been really good this year. Jernigan, Williams, Pierce, Guy, and even Urban to a lesser extent have been very impressive.

is that not what typically happens ? pessimistic? just realistic. we can't afford the market for a top tier DL. D Lineman are getting paid 100M now a days... it's just reality.

I meant pessimistic in focusing on his eventual, and apparently inevitable, departure, rather than enjoying his play now.

About time he started playing like this. This is the kinda potential I saw in him from day one. Frustrating it took this long, but still nice to see. Timmy J can ball.

It seems like Jernigan gets stronger as the game goes on.  If he keeps playing like this, I'm sure loud mouth Warren Sapp will take back his comments about him wearing #99.

So we should kept Arthur jones, Cory Redding, Kruger and McPhee?

The can afford a top tier dl and if one is projected to continue that dominance they give a fair contract. May be understanding that some of their success is based on the players we have around them is why we don't break the bank for everyone.  As much as I loved ngata as a raven his Detroit production doesn't warrant paying him just so people like you can say "oh they do pay dl afterall"

He was a Pro Bowl alternate once for Ngata. - keep this tear up - He'll be a Pro Bowl 1st pick looking for an alternate.

What ever comes after that...no worries. Ngata played 8 years, helped to win a SB and was happy with us making very reasonable money before his mega deal. If Jernigan has that kind of track record and success, he should be able to garner a similar deal. I'd be just as happy for him.

That said, the cap is going-up substantially these upcoming seasons and 100 million dollar contracts may just be modest signings for proven game-changers compared to previous years.

In Oz I trust. Show him love, too.

Better than him being just a career flash in the pan for sure. Am still shocked he didn't go in the first.

And a certain member said he was a bad pick. I could easily see a 10+ sack year from him

He's not someone we'll let walk. DL that play on this level are worth every penny. We'll break the bank for him if he keeps this up...he's far more talented than other guys we let walk, like Arthur Jones and McPhee. It was just a matter of keeping him healthy and letting him get some time under his belt; that's why we ran to the podium when he was still available in the 2nd round

Just got finished watching Wired from Week 2 and was excited to see Timmy leading the DL in pre-game. Him taking the next step is more than just on the field. He has the potential to be "The Guy" or at least one of them on this defense and with that comes great responsibility.

That role's already taken.

Probably gonna be a choice between him and Brandon Williams.  Hopefully Pierce can fill that B Will void so we can keep Timmy.

This is what I'm thinking. Timmy to me needs to be priority. If he keeps this pace with sacks, TFL's, and swatted passes he could be in the running for DPOY.

He has 1 sack in every game so far let's hope that continues for the next 13 games. Very impressive how much of an impact he has had on the inside.

He's definitely exploded onto the scene this year, realizing the talent he always had. However, I still question his effort from the past season. Seemed like his head wasn't in the game or something last year. Regarding an extension, his performance from last year gives me pause; giving him a big contract could put his mind right back in that place he was last year when he was not playing to his potential. I want to see him play this whole season with this kind of enthusiasm before I consider extending him.

For real! We have Jernigan for 30 more games at least. Let's enjoy this ride while it lasts and hope that if he continues to dominate we'll find a way to keep him.

Jernigan has been very impressive so far, more than his numbers it's his effort now.  He just keeps grinding in those trenches, spinning, pushing, & fighting.

Teams will start paying more attention to him which will open up those edge rushers.

Simple answer: Contract year!  To bad we didn't extend his contract before the season. Gonna be costly now!

Correct! My mistake, it's Brandon Williams contract year. We should have extended him.

Unfortunately, I doubt Williams gets extended at this point, Pierce seems to meet the criteria for the 80/20 rule.

The thing I like most about Jernigan is his explosiveness coupled with the fact that he seems to relish putting a whooping on QBs.

In the past, he's been on the border, gotten a few personal fouls and whatnot but this year it's just clean, brutal hits. He just seems to time the shot just right and know how to put his power and weight into it. Josh McCown knew who he was and knew to be afraid of #99. Can't wait to see him continue that.
