[News] Game Recap: Ravens 19, Jaguars 17

32 posts in this topic

The Ravens controlled the first half, but made mistake after mistake in the fourth quarter. Just when it looked like they were doomed for a loss, the Ravens special teams unit (that was part of the mistakes) turned it around to pull out another gritty win on a 54-yard field goal by Justin Tucker.

Forsett is not good. This guy literally takes all the momentum out of the game when he runs the ball. All it takes is one guy to bring him down. He has no determination. He requires a huge gaping hole to get positive yards.

It ain't over until the operatic kickers foot sings ?

But still...Ravens...you better than this. Blake Bortles self imploded (and I truly felt for him watching how upset he was with himself) otherwise maybe another QB of another team could have better capitalized on our mistakes. But yeah, our D came threw with some important plays in 4th (woo hoo Urban) as did Flacco and co getting Tucker in range, and the D holding at the end...but...thanks Tucker for this one. And better job next time rest of crew.

Ravens need to feature a back. And not forsett I think west is more explosive and when we get Dixon back he should get a shot

If only we had a dependable running back who was explosive, rarely fumbled, and could run and catch equally well... Oh wait, we did have one... I wonder what he's up to?

This team probably has to pass to open up the running game. The opponents are stacking the box with 8 and daring them to throw downfield.(or so it seems)

I like what I am seeing from the defense. Hits on the QB, Turnovers, and flying to the football. Missed opportunities, turnovers, and penalties made the game a closer than it should have been. West needs to start and get Aiken involved. Urban's ability block kicks is huge.

Well, the best you can say about this is that 3-0 beats 0-3 any day. Offense is still awful. Line can't run block and most of the time can't give Joe time either. Perriman is the offensive version of Elam. Drops more passes than he catches. I knew when they took this guy it was a mistake, but oh, the Kool Aid drinkers think he is Wonderful. Enjoy it now, because the middle of our schedule gets real tough, starting with the Steelers, who really do have an offense. Kudos to our real All Pro, Justin Tucker, and a defense that plays well enough to keep us alive.

I am thankful we stayed fairly healthy today and we get to play the Raiders at home next week. Maybe the 12th man at M&T next week will give us a boost against the Raiders after two weeks on the road while mourning the loss of Mr. Brooks.

They're down by 20 to philly right now, but per usual Ben is immune to criticism

Ya, it was ugly but we need to get these wins now while we're playing lesser teams and hopefully, our guys are learning lessons as they go so we can be a more complete team come the bye. The Pittsburghs and New englands won't make as many mistakes to give us the games.
Sure could use a great corner and Dixon back!

Man l hate fans like this. Negative crap. Be happy with W. We are winning. You do realize the Steelers are losing to the Eagles 20-3 right?

We'll take the W, no matter how ugly.

We really don't have any committment to running the football well. This is fine, because you clearly don't need to run well to win games.

I think we envision running the ball as more of a tool to keep a defense balanced and honest, and if necessary, run the clock near the end of the game. However, I don't think the "keeping them honest" idea is working when the vast majority of our run plays are out of the shotgun where every member of the defense can watch the handoff and the front 4 themselves can stuff us for 2 or 3 yards.

This Ravens Defense.. what can you say other then its way better then the injury riddled version last year.
Weddle this guys value cant be understated. A pro bowl Safety, who puts 2ndry in right places, communicates and gets turnovers. Best since HOFR REED.
Then obviously Sizzle being back..
Lets not forget so far.. Ozzie hitting on this draft. Tavon Young looking like a Stud in slot, Judon 5th rnd gem unstoppable pass rusher, Corriea starting to show up, and undrafted Pierce being force in middle with B.Williams. oh and Jernigan taking next step into Pro bowl DT Sack machine.
All this does is allow player who were out of position last yr like Mosley,Dumervil etc go back to being Pro bowlers at their singular job. Edge rusher, ILBr.

Now cons.. Im not pleased with offensive performance so far snd lack of touchdowns, and nature of checkdown city playcalling by Trestman.

However 3-0
So

The Steelers are a prime example that everybody has bad games. They're losing badly to the Eagles. So be happy we win ugly. No matter what.

The Steelers, who are supposed to have an explosive offense, is getting the sparks beat off their helmets. The Bengals got beat by a QB that only started 3 games in the NFL, and the Bills lit up the Cards defense. Ravens always find ways to make every game close. Today it was the offense and Hester's fumble. They need a killer instinct. For now, enjoy the 3-0.

Well written IMHO. Definitely agree the check down offense is in need of fixing. They have the tools to be aggressive. Especially early in games then can afford to attack the defense and stick it to them. 2 yard, 3 yard 5 yard plays need to be transformed into 5 yard, 7 yard and 12 yards plays.

But like you said, cannot argue with 3-0.

Great post!

Please don't forget to mention A.Levine in your praise. Talk about a guy that grinds every time his number is called.

If your reading this Levine, don't think your efforts will ever go unnoticed in Bmore. We love you!

I thought maybe the CB issue was fixed with Wright in the first game but he has absolutely stunk up the joint the last two games. Lets hope he figures it out. Justin Forsett is looking more like the back he was before 2014 and less like the back of 2014. Clearly the running scheme has changed and doesn't support his style of running. We have to sit him and give Allen at least a chance to do better than these guys. At least West could get a little something going. Wallace and Perriman need to find their hands and while we are at it, Hester might also. Once again, Hester, like Wright, had one good game but other than that it is touchbacks, fair catches and a fumble. Hardly enough to drop Butler for. Hester was supposed to mean, if nothing else, ball security. There goes that thought. Coming home next week where the Ravens play their best ball and they are going to need it against Derek Carr who is a whole set above the QBs we have faced up to this point. Hopefully, the offense will figure it out because we just can't keep expecting the defense and special teams to close out and win games.
