Next Up: Ravens vs Oakland Raiders at M&T Bank Stadium

470 posts in this topic

This is an AFC match up. I would much rather win this than one with the Giants for example. We need to beat every AFC team we line up against this season. I expect us to split with Cincy and Pittsburgh this season, but we need to beat every other AFC team we face. The toughest out is obviously NE, but if somebody can beat them in NE it is us.

As for this game, I expect the offense to wake up after its protracted hybernation with Perriman going deep for us. I expect the offense to put up 400+yards passing in this game and we'll win comfortably for the first time. I predict a score of 34-16

Ravens playing the NFL's worst defense, rated #32. Look for this offense to open it up at the Bank. Long throws, short throws, screens, play action, solid runnng by both hb's . we will put up at least 30 or more points this Sunday. On the other hand, Ravens defense is ranked at #2.       31 to 13 Ravens

I'm getting psyched.

Possible huge wild card playoff implications. Have to win Sunday.

Definitely agree. We have to beat Oakland so it can give us all the leverage in playoff implications as well vs the Jets, Dolphins, etc. Every AFC North opponent as well.

This should be an interesting game. There offense has a lot of potential but our defense has been solid and tackling has been much better than last year.

Oaklands defense is bottom of league currently, so can our offense exploit that and put up a few tds early.

I think Carr will throw 2 ints and get sacked 3 times this week, either Webb or Jimmy gets an int.

The offensive struggles will continue until a reliable run game is established. Last week showed a small improvement but still short of the need. Considering the OL problem with opening holes, West should probably get more carrys than Forsett since he is more powerful, although less agile. A fresh Forsette may have better results late in the game if West and the OL runs well and often enough to create wear on the DL.

I expect another close game! It's just too difficult to use stats established from past games as an indication of how the next game goes. This point in the season, teams improve week-by-week in general.

That and if their front seven that is pretty solid creates pressure on our offensive line that has had its ups and downs so far I am afraid. That is why we NEED to get the run game going. The team won't win if it has to throw the ball 60 times. Plus we need to take more shots downfield like we did week 2. Terrance West is key headed into this match up and I say this because Forsett and him have had about 50% share each and West has actually shown some ability to run. Forsett is a 3rd down back at best this time in his career.

I question the ability of the corners that the Raiders have gone up against so far. The Saints have lost both their starters, The Falcons have Trufant who seems to be having an off year, and the Titans are just a Mularky-led mess despite Dick LeBeau. McCourty is old and overrated and I never thought Perrish Cox was very special.

Now that you mention it... We actually have a shot at shutting that offense.

Idk if I'd go that far because Crabtree and Cooper are both very good receivers, they're both bound to get open a couple times especially with that line, but if there's one team thats done a good job responding to adversity, its been the Ravens.

Jimmy smith better play well. He's just been so meh

I have a feeling if we lose he'll be one to have had a poor game. His contract makes me ill as he's never been worth even half of it. 12 games in a 5 year career isnt worthy of his contract. Chris Harris Jr he is not..( and that contract would be just about right for him)

They don't play the same position.

had a decent end to the 2013 season and 4 really good games in 2014 when injury hit. Before and since he's been below average

Cooper drops an awful lot. He's dangerous but doesn't produce as much as you think (except against the Saints, because well, you know).

He's shut down Watkins, Hurns and ARob so far. Only Pryor had a fine game against him.

Its hard to gauge a lot of his career because the foot injuries have been brutal, but late last season he was playing pretty well when nobody else was. It's really hard to complain about contracts nowadays anyway considering how much bad teams pay to average players-- Especially at QB, Pass Rusher, and CB. Those seem to be the 3 positions teams won't to risk losing. Currently he doesn't have a huge cap hit, but his performance will likely get re-evaluated next year when his cap hit jumps from 5 mil to 12 mil.

I don't really think we'd be better off with Wright starting opposite Powers/Davis/Young though

Troll thinks that the team paid Jimmy for 12 games of quality play, ignoring the obvious subjective nonsense associated.

Just ignore Sami... very big fan of irrelevant hindsight analysis that doesn't actually benefit the team.

Go look at the thread where we signed jimmy smith to that contract and tell me if this was a hindsight view.

Idk what people are seeing... Jimmy Smith is playing very well this season and I am surprised he was playing so well the first three games with his surgery just a couple months before. I swear if we had Darrelle Revis of 5 years ago, Patrick Peterson, and Richard Sherman on the same team people would still say they are average and they suck.

In lighter news...Rapaport said that Kenneth Dixon is ready to return to practice. Wonder how that factors in to the game plan.

Anyone else think jimmy singled in Crabtree and then wright + bracket coverage for Cooper would be far more effective? Doesn't matter who you put on cooper he can't realistically be single covered, and jimmy matches up excellent with Crabtree.

I legitimately think we're better off not making corners follow receivers. I want them prepared for the offense instead of the receivers. Increases chance of turnovers while risking some unideal matchups.

Cool. Its 2016 though. So why you are referencing a contract decision from almost two years ago that you think was based on performance from two years prior to that?

What does that have to do with this weeks game in 2016 against the Raiders?

Perspective, perspective, perspective.

Can't imagine he's active on Sunday at this point, but certainly trending in the right direction.

I'm definitely fine with that. I think the most important responsibility for the RBs this week will be to help block Mack anyway.

ronnie stanley probably played hurt in the last game and might have been a factor in his least impressive game this year and isnt practicing today either. Def something thats been lingering.

Interesting tidbit from Harbaugh today (though we probably all knew this already)...

Coach John Harbaugh expressed disappointment in the Ravens' running game and said he's looking at potential changes in the backfield.

"More than changes," Harbaugh said. "It's about seeking to improve." Justin Forsett has been dreadful with just 98 scoreless yards on 31 attempts (3.2 YPC) as the "starter." Terrance West hasn't been much better with 119 scoreless yards on 33 carries (3.6 YPC), but he recorded the Ravens' longest run of the young season last week, a 15-yarder to open the third quarter. Rookie Kenneth Dixon (knee) is nearing a return and will likely be given a shot to handle a chunk of the load.
