The Good, The Bad and the Awful against the Jags

I feel like Forsett looks like what he is. A journeyman that had an outlier year and people got happy about a 30 year old RB that posted numbers in Kubiak's system that's know to produce a plethora of 1000 yard rushers.   Production dropped slightly last year before the injury, and now he's completely back down to earth.

He runs very hesitantly at times, now if the team were still running those same zone runs that would be beneficial to cutback into an open lane.

I'm just wondering why Buck Allen can't get a single snap at least he can contribute to the passing game much more than forsett or west.

Justin is looking for holes that aren't there; West will try to make one if none exist. Justin just isn't large or powerful enough to run that way; he need holes.

I don't think that's the case. Forsett got 3 YPC while not breaking a single tackle or making anyone miss. If the OL is getting you 3 yards before contact on average they're doing their job.

West averaged 4.5 YPC on 10 totes. That's good.

Dixon will usually make the first guy miss and runs through contact. That alone and we're looking at 4-5 YPC. And that's all you can really ask for.

I just think the time split is hurting us. 10 for West and 7 for Forsett. I want to see that more like 15 for West and let him get on a roll. They'll figure it out and we'll be fine.

Forsett not a power back  he can at times break tackles and get extra yards but for the most part he's not that type of guy that's going to break tackles often.West averaging 4.9 yards per carry  is good but Bernard Pierce averaged 5.0 yards and 4.1 yards in 2013 and even then the offensive line suck at run blocking .

You can tell The Ravens arent using the zone blocking scheme as much as they did with Gary Kubiak .They look like they trying to be more of  a power blocking offensive line  and maybe adding Jensen in the line up would work but I don't get why they totally running away from what worked in 2014.

For the most part I think this offensive line excels in the zone blocking. Again since Forsett isnt a power back why is Trestman constantly using him in  inside runs? What about outside runs or even counters. Why maximize his weakness instead of minimizing it.

I don't really see any difference in Forsett speed at the moment  and even if he had slowed down I still think he's  a running back that can average 4.0 yard per carry. if Dixon has to be the savior of the run game then I think that's some what sad especially if he gets hurt again and I love special running back like a Ray Rice and others but if this teams needs a special back to just average 4.0 yards per carry consistently then that's sad .

why in the world was Wright on Robinson?

I feel like Wright didn't play as bad as some say. Robinson had 54 yards on the day and trust me, it could've been worse. My problem is why was he in one-on-one coverage in the redzone against Wright? Few CB's can pull off winning the match up there. Outside of those 2 TDs, he didn't play that bad. Wasn't good but he had a tougher job than Jimmy.

The good: the linebackers. Eric weddle. Tucker and special teams besides Hester.

The bad: our inability to put up touchdowns. Run blocking. Forsett period.

The ugly: our coaching staff! Under harbaugh there seems to be a trend of always playing down to our opponents. And always trying to play the clock no matter how little our lead is. We were up by 2 before the jags took the lead and we came out running it quite a bit in the fourth like we were comfortable. Wasn't working even a little bit. And of course dean pees as always trued soft zone coverage at that time trying to protect a 2 point lead but thank God he stopped. Maybe only because the jags finally took the lead. And trestman was terrible not utilizing the middle of the field at all and the play calling was a joke.

Joe ran for 1 TD in this game but was unable to connect with his receivers for a TD through the air.

To be honest, I think that Trestman may not b e utilizing Joe's strengths enough.  Joe is lethal to me in PA and from the Gun.  With the speeds of Wallace and Perriman and the hands of SSS and Pitta; to me; they should be opening this offense up more in big chunks (as Joe says) and not all of this check down, dinking and dunking mess. Even Joe thinks that the pace is too slow!  He wants to open up this offense.  I say, let him!

Well I agree, kind of,  but his job was tougher because he's not as good as Jimmy.

I still don't understand Flacco's decisions in what, his 9th season?  Not blaming him solely or anything crazy like that for this offenses abysmal display of football, but he's certainly not helping much.

Correa almost made a play.

And then at the end he got a good running start on a pass rushing down and got lit up from a stationary blocker.. It was comical.

He threw a PERFECT ball to Wallace in the endzone that Wallace dropped.  He can't can't throw and catch the passes.

He will make a difference . Those 2 yard runs will be 4-5 yards , even with this oline.

Watch .

And  if he gets hurt again and has to miss some game then what ?I hope Dixon comes back and play  all this season but he has had back to back injuries so far that have held him back.

Easy for him to do, considering he will never play against him again.

I don't think he was complaining about the refs, but it's whatever.  Like you said.

Run game bothers me and just hope we can stay healthy on d.  Seem to be a better 2nd half of the season team and I can see this defense tightening up as the season progresses.

Very happy about the WINS 3-0 but a lot of room for improvement for sure however can anyone name a single NFL team that does not have to improve on anything?

Didn't see this mentioned in this thread, but Stanley did miss a practice for a foot which could have been a contributor for him falling off a bit this week in his play. Trouble pushing off would cause him to be a bit jumpy at the snap in an attempt to get in front of his man. I'd give him a pass on his struggles this week.

He did have the one to Wallace that he dropped.

I think you'd have to say the lack of a run game and poor pass pro kind of limited the play book today. With better line play improvement will come all around.

Ramsey is going to be great it looks like.

Someone needs to teach him him the art of trash talking and respect though

Ya'll taking that simple statement as a knock on Joe.  it's wasn't!  Ya'll too "gotta defend Joe" sensitive.  :D

I think not being able to chop block has effected Baltimore's running game to an extent as well... Thats something they were always good at.

The good:

-TUCKER. once again- who says kickers are overvalued? He was worth every penny. And all around the league kickers dramatically effected the outcome of games today. Ask Cleveland. Also pretty ironic at the end of the first half we get an untimed down for a feild goal against jacksonville that turned out to be the difference.

-The Defense- still without doom they manage to play another solid game. Half the interceptions in one game than we got all year last season. Jernigan is really coming into his own, and suggs is coming around as well. Mosley with another big pick as well. If not for the long run back we gave up we would've probably held them to 10 points.

-special teams- Another YUUUUGE blocked kick. We are really gettin the hang of that. Urban again too. Hester almost blew it and we gave up another long run back but between tuck and the block that single handedly won us the game.

- The Browns, Bengals and Steelers all lose and we took over the sole lead of the north.

The ugly-

The run game and the offensive line. Which go hand in hand. Pass blocking and run blocking was awful. It's hard to blame the backs when they just keep running into walls but eventually you would think we would bust one or two atleast. Really hoping Dixon provides a spark. Otherwise a change needs to be made. Zuttahs gotta go and we need to find a way to utilize Jensen and/or urschel.

-Once again we can't ever put a team away. We let them hang around until I almost have a heart attack every single week. We had plenty of chances to put it away and we pretty much handed them the W on a silver platter if not for some huge plays in the last few minutes. Last year we lost every game like this- atleast this year that has changed and we find ways to win- but if we don't clean things up and get the running game going we won't get too far come December/ January. I was listening to a live feed of  the game and I don't think I've ever been so frustrated with the way things were going. I stopped listening after the blocked kick. Had a feeling we would pull it off but it was too much for my heart to take.

- Hester almost single handedly cost us the game. We get 2 huge back to back sacks and get the ball with a chance to put the game out of reach and the guy we brought in to not make mistakes makes the biggest one. What does it take to find a returner that can just feild the ball cleanly? Unbelievable.

- the Wallace TD drop that killed the 22 straight completions and potential NFL record.

At the end of the day were 3-0 ...don't care how we did it- and we've got time to work the kinks out. Get doom and Dixon back and tighten up the o line and we will be in great shape.

Ramsey was talking  a whole lot of trash about Steve smith after the game. Calling him an old man saying he had no respect for him and that he "shut him down" ...8 catches for 87 yards isn't exactly shutting anybody down buddy... Rookie better learn to respect his elders. Sounds like an 0-3 starts got somebody feelin salty. I'm kinda glad we didn't draft his ignorant self. Anyway Steve responded accordingly along with a few of his teammates including CJ Mosley.

Not defending Joe at all, but not gonna overlook that he did his part on that missed opportunity.  The reason they didn't connect was Wallace's fault not Joe's.

Win your home games, split on the road. That's how you win a division. Currently halfway to the necessary road record and 1/4 of the way to the needed win total 3 games in

Tavon Young is a monster, Judon needs to see the field more, I can't wait for Doom and KD, and Wright and Zuttah need to get their stuff together

Also, please remember Perriman has played a grand total of 3 NFL games. He is going to have bad games, but oh boy when he breaks out

The good: defense and special teams.

The bad: the O-line.

The ugly: Marc Trestman - this guy has never been a good coordinator. I'm sure Ozzie knew that. Believe it or not, Ozzie played under this guy in 1989, as he was the offensive coordinator for the Browns that year. The Browns, somewhat like the Ravens, had a good defense but the offense was pretty bad.  He was fired the following off season.

49ers hired him in 1995, and he was so bad that they had to bring Bill Walsh out of retirement to help him coordinate the offense.

Bernie Kosar had his best season under Trestman. They went to the AFCCG. He wasn't fired bc of the offense. The staff was fired for losing 3 straight seasons in the AFCCG.

The 49ers offense was tops in the league under him.

He also helped make Rich Gannon an MVP and directed an offense that led the Raiders to a SB.

He also had a top offense in Arizona and helped them to their first winning season and playoff appearance in like 2 decades.

He's never coordinated a team with a losing record besides last year. Made the playoffs in all but one season. Coordinated 2 league leading offense and 3 league leading passing games. Helped 3 different QBs to career years (and had Flacco on pace for one last year before injury).

To say he's been unsuccessful as a coordinator is ridiculous. I don't know what your measure of success is for an OC... but wins, playoff appearances, QB play and offensive production are all decent indicators and he's been near top notch in all of them.

You don't have to like him... but don't lie or make stuff up.

One MAJOR problem... play action only works when there's a threat of the run game. Teams aren't stopping the box against us to stop the run... they're stopping it with 5-6 man fronts or even less on occasion.

If you can't run the ball effectively, then play action is just a slower developing pass play that the defense already knows is a pass play, because they don't care if you hand it off.

In some ways, same thing from Shotgun. You have to give teams at least the impression that you are capable of gaining 4-5 yards running the ball from the Shotgun in order for teams to respect it. Otherwise, just another obvious passing play.

You saw it today from Jacksonville. They did a lot of PA it seemed with Bortles, and I didn't get the point. Our defense never seemed to move on it, because we knew we could stop the run with a 4-5 man front. There was no reason for our linebackers or safeties to do anything differently than what they were scheming for. I thought it was a waste for them to do it as often as they did.
