The Run Game

Oline was pretty good in the run game today. Zuttah REALLY got his act together for the most part. He got a couple pancakes today. Think we went back to mostly zone calls and even went with some wide zones again. It was good to see. Yanda and Wagner were dominant in the run game. Jensen was a difference maker for sure, too. It really works wonders when you get a nimble guard with phone booth quickness to seal his gap.

This is largely because Oakland's DL is smallish and we had better matchups. Zuttah wasn't overwhelmed today.

In pass pro, though, we got wrecked. Jensen and Hurst were porous on the left side. Love Jensen but he really struggles with pass blocking and Idk why.

If Wagner was hoping to get top five RT money, he just blew his shot. He got owned on the edge.

Zuttah was TERRIBLE, I counted more bad snaps than I can remember and he just isn't a very good blocker. He needs to go.

Generally I agree but his blocking was pretty solid today. One of his best performances I can remember.

I've known the line has been a problem but I've also said that you need guys who can churn out tough yards and that we stood no chance with forsett.

Turns out that just maybe... Forsett was the biggest problem. Even buck Allen was worlds apart from forsett.

This. With the way our line is playing right now we need pile movers. West showed he can get into a rhythm and Buck was getting push. If only we can do something about Zuttahs drive killing holding penalties

Buck is a steady back. Idk why he was a healthy scratch, he's never looked bad even if he hasn't looked great. Ever since seeing his 3rd down ability I've never thought to myself "forsett seems like a good option for this 3rd and medium"

I think that may be why they went away from using the shotgun so much. The snaps were constantly high or low.  That truly does mess up a QB.

Honestly I am a fan of Buck. I think Dixon is a better version however and West is a slobber knocker. If Tali could stay healthy I'd love to see him get a shot. I think we have the backs. Zuttah needs to get himself together. Stanley and Lewis need to get back out there and keep improving. Jensen didn't appear to steal Lewis' spot today.

That Oakland game put our running game up to 3.7ypa - with two starting linemen and our best RB (on paper) still to come back that gives me hope that even if nothing else changes we at least won't be 2013 levels of terrible.

I still think if we upgrade Zuttah we get closer to 4.0ypa. But realistically we don't need a top-shelf running game - we just need something that'll get enough respect to give the receivers some space.

What do you guys think about how Dixon perform in tonight's game? Could we see the changing the guard in our mini bye? Dixon the new #1 back? Or will twest still be heavily featured with Dixon in on passing downs.

I think it's still West. West has some polish that Dixon doesn't quite have yet, and they both have the ability to bowl over people. The 1-2 punch could be deadly if we learn to scheme it right. Still think Dixon could be a #1 in the coming years.

I think we see it continue like it was tonight. Neither was really the feature back. Dixon was used more heavily in the passing game, but got his opportunities in the run as well. West was still used heavily as well.

I see that as a continuing trend, where we try to get the most out of both and ride the hot hand. Dixon got chunks both in the run game and passing game. West i think is a little more steady in at least getting what's blocked for him and hitting the right hole; while Dixon has a little more explosiveness and shiftiness to him.

But i dont see any reason right now to shift away from the formula last night, unless Dixon just starts to go off.

I agree. Use both as they both offer something a little different. If one is super hot and having an awesome game, you ride him. If not, mix them both in and give the defense different looks

I'd side with that. No sense in breaking up anything that's working but still hold the opportunity to change up and follow the hot hand.
