Who will be the new inactives when Dixon and Dumervil return?

Its an interesting one. I personally would make correa and mclellan inactive but the latter is loved by the staff. He hasnt played well at all so far IMHO and i think we should give carter a bit more of a chance.

I was just thinking about that yesterday when I read that Doom could be back this week.Ithink Correa is this obvious odd man out on defense and Kenneth Dixon could challenge Chris Moores spot depending on the matchup.

If only we would make forsett the inactive. He has been terrible so far and West and dixon are clearly better.

I'll take those 2 and allen as the 3rd down specialist over forsett any day.

Thinks so too, regarding Carter.

Good chance somebody else will get injured by then, so it will likely resolve itself.

In theory, I'm not 100% sure what value Maxx Williams is adding right now either...

IF we were to go solely based on offensive/defensive playing time, leading candidates would be:

Canady, Price, Correa, Carter and maybe Urban.

Would not think it would come from the offensive side of the ball at all, unless it would be somebody like Moore or Williams.

He's been probably the best blocking tight end of the trio. Just sucks he's not getting in reps as a pass catcher too often.

Maxx, Urban, and Correa would be my most likely candidates.  Canady or Price could take a seat for Powers at some point, but they seem to like their ST contributions.

West hasn't really been all that great himself.  Forestt averaged 4.0 yards against the bills while West averaged 2.7 yards. Forsett averaged 2.9 yards against The Browns while West averaged 3.8 yards. I don't  even think the issue is the running backs but overall the offensive line playing bad and the predictable play calling doesn't help either.. Dixon and West may be more explosive then Forsett but neither are going to help this run game get better until the offensive line start blocking better and until Marc Trestman starts mixing it up in the running game because constantly calling inside runs isn't helping. What about counters, outside runs and etc.

Yeah would seem logical that you essentially swap out at positions. Powers in, another corner out. Dumervil in, another linebacker out.

I would also say that we clearly are somewhat comfortable rolling with only 2 RBs on gameday, so I don't think its a lock that Forsett, West and Dixon are all active.

I personally am more of the mindset that it will take Dixon a few weeks AFTER he's healthy to crack the active roster. I don't think once he's healthy he shoots right back into substantial time right away.

Both Correa and Mccellan aren't going  to be inactive because if  Mosley or Orr goes down with a injury who's going to be able to step in and play inside linebacker? Levine is not  a good candidate to play inside linebacker beyound  on obvious passing downs and Carter to my understanding isn't  better when it comes to setting the edge like McClellan  .

Doom -> Carter or Correa

Dixon -> Tough call. Could be a reserve OL, Maxx, maybe even a DB like Price or Canady.

Another question is what's going to happen with Waller when hes off suspension in 2 weeks. Do we want to retain him? Probably not on the 53, but probably PS... whose spot is he going to take there?

Sounds like Waller will get the call to the 53, according to Zrebiec.

I can't see how Correa isn't one of the first to lose a roster spot when another player returns.

In terms of Waller, I just can't see how he doesn't make the 53.  I do see the issue with the numbers game at TE, but I just don't see them putting him on the practice squad.

Is this the article from Zrebiec you were referring to? (under heading of Williams not involved) or did you see something more specific?

Tweets & Replies on Twitter.  Pretty much the same thing that article states in that they really like Waller, but he might not be active every week necessarily.

Price is interesting because he seems to be the only guy solely backing up at outside CB.  No one else really to do that.  Canady maybe but I'm not convinced they trust him enough for that yet.

Yeah would think it would be Canady. From what I recall, he spent a good amount of time at S in the preseason, which makes him the 4th safety and probably like the 6th corner when Powers is healthy. Don't see why he would be active on gameday.

I haven't seen much of Price honestly and he was on the bubble prior to the seasons start. You still have Levine and while he's been mixing it up at LB/C he's still a viable option to back up either Smith or Wright in addition to Tavon Young who has played really well as of late. I don't know if Powers can play on the outside all that well but sometimes you got to go with the better player.

nice to have these problems.  I'd say Correa and McClellan

Can't really see how a guy will go from being a starter to a healthy scratch in one week.

McClellan is probably going to be the "starter" at OLB even when Dumervil returns, because Dumervil isn't technically a "starter" anyway.

For lack of a better comparison, McClellan = Upshaw.

I don't think Urban would likely be one of them, given that it would only leave us dressing four defensive lineman.

Its possible, but I doubt it.

McClellan is a starter and core STer. He's active, no question.

I haven't heard Urban much and Pierce could have pushed him back. I'm really going with guys who were on the bubble in the off-season honestly.

I think Carter may be one of the first, especially because I think he only made the team since Doom was hurt.  I've noticed Correa on ST more than I've noticed Carter, although I'm not positive that who has actually played more snaps.

Outside of Carter, I agree with others that it would probably be Canady or Price, although I think with Canady playing as a gunner more often he may stay on the active roster.

True, but again, making him inactive would leave us with only four dressed defensive lineman, which I think is a bit of a gamble.

To an extent. This isn't a traditional 3-4 anymore. A lot more of the OLBs are playing with their hand in the dirt instead of another big body.

He's gonna start when Doom comes back.  Doom will actually sub in for McClellan on passing downs.

This year, the goal all along was for Doom to return back to his 2014 part time role.  Coming in on obvious passing downs.
