[News] The Breakdown: Eisenberg's Five Thoughts vs. Cleveland Browns

108 posts in this topic

we can spin this anyway we want to, but I'll tell you this much. Getting down to a Cleveland Browns offense that is really average at best by 20 points in the first quarter is really terrifying. I understand we came back and won the game, but what does it really prove? That we can come back from a deficit and win? Perhaps, but it also tells every other team that you can run big on the Ravens and score 20 points in a quarter too! All in all, I am very disappointed in how we won this game against possibly the worst team in the NFL. People may not like me saying it but it is exactly how I feel. There is an empty feeling despite the win.

tell that to the Bills

All right. Let's see:

Good things:

We're 2-0.
That cannot hurt, can it?

The team deserves all credit for not giving up and not flinching after being knocked down so early.

It shows resilience, determination, belief in themselves, confidence in themselves and the others, and also the calm reaction, lack of panicking... These are treats any team needs to succeed in the NFL.

The great summer investments seem to be money well spent.

Wallace, Weddle, West... Key pieces of the team already. Shout out to the FO.

Great work from the ST.

Week#1 they were the least good of the three legs. This time, they came up big. Hats off.

The D can really turn up the heat. REALLY.

I'm sure the OC's and O-line coaches will see all the sufferings poor McCown had to go through... Pretty impressive performance.

No injuries again, for the second week.

Every single Ravens-fan know damn well how important that is. Especially happy with Pitta.

Genuine turnovers at last.

Maybe all the secondary needed was to get the ice broken. Now it's broken.

Bad things:

RIGHT NOW the Ravens do not look like a playoff team.

May be a bit harsh, especially the 2-0 start, first time in 7 years - but let's be honest folks... we beat two very modest teams most other opponents will also beat quite comfortably - more comfortably than we did. Of course, it's week#2, and the O is admittedly a WIP at the moment - but we'll need a lot more than what we've seen the first two weeks. We are very lucky with the schedule - we could easily be 0-2 if we got two good opponents - like we did last season... But we aren't, and we may have a couple more weeks for the O to find themselves and start producing on a regular basis. We can all see that they have what it takes. Everything is still on the table - in 2012 we had stretches where we looked anything like a playoff team, let alone a SB-winning team... (@ KC then v the Cowboys in back-to back gamnes... both W's, but both painful to watch...) - still the season ended with Ray Lewis hoisting the Lombardi...

Flacco must shake off the fear.

He's obviously not in comfort in the pocket yet... He looked borderline panicked a couple of times...

The O-line must find their pre-seeason form,,, and fast.

They've been the weakest unit these first two games. An that cannot stay that way for long. Flacco needs more freetime in the pocket..

The O needs to be less predicatble. Much less.

The O is starting to look like the good old Cam Cameron O... Way too predictable. If I, the layman, can call so many plays before the snap, anybody can... especially the opposing DC's and players...

I'm sure most people think the Seahawks are a playoff team. How did they fare on the road against the Rams today. As I've stated before several times, usually most road games are difficult in the NFL. The Seahawks have put up a whopping 15 points against the Dolphins and Rams. Things are not so bleak in Baltimore. Granted, the Offense can get better. We are 2-0 NOT 0-2.

I am not going fixate on the down by 20. Instead I am gonna relish the 20 point comeback! DAMN! 2-0 BABY.

Thank You. You'd swear the Ravens were 0-2 reading the majority of the posts. Guess the Ravens Fans(?) want to be one of the best 0-2 teams in the NFL like the Bills, Skins, or Saints.

RavensBaltimore, all I know is #24 is what I saw get beat on several plays. So maybe they traded numbers..otherwise idk its Arrington. But its unimportant. Whoever got beat..fix it for next week. Competition doesnt get easier

#24 is Wright.

Note to Ravens: In an effort to keep my cardio levels out of the critical range, they are no longer allowed to spot a team 20 points before winning the game. LOL GO RAVENS! 25 CB

Well, I'll just assume that the Ravens are still a work in progress, but it's better to be 2-0 while that progress is still being made. My fears about our secondary have been confirmed again...too many big plays, too many receivers just wide open.
The offensive line is also looking shaky, not awful but needs some work. Flacco took some big hits today(and last week) but he did well in absorbing the hit and completing the pass or getting rid of the ball as he got hit. OL hasn't created any running lanes either. Tucker is worth every dime of his paycheck, Micheal Pierce is a force in the middle, Pitta is back and I actually enjoyed Flacco's poise today.

Lots of good things to hang the hat on, but please correct the slow start thing. Literally got a gift today. In this league you do not win very often when spotting a team 20 points, especially in their house. Way to not give up and keep battling though. Last season's lesson may have been the difference in the mental game. Gotta love seeing Pierce burst onto the scene today.

Year after year same scenario every game is tightly contested be nice to see an offensive explosion and have an easy win for once. I'll keep the faith maybe some day, they came away win that's the important thing.

Curious as to why Joe has to go to Trestman to change the play calling and call more deep passes. Joe got the game plan in mid week. OC's really get stuck on their game plans.

The perspective of what Joe is seeing on the field makes a difference. When your Qb comes to you as OC and says this isn't working but I know what will and is confident in what can work, why wouldn't you listen. The best coaches always adapt their plan as the game unfolds.

Really wish we could have kept Kubiak, his offense seems to click more due to the timing built in with the QB dropback step count.

Trestman isn't awful but needs to get more creative with disguising the plays.

Well after a few hours of moping, I am glad we are 2-0! We weren't stellar in any phase except ST, but somehow dug deep to eke out a W. Kudos. However, this level of performance isn't going to cut it every week and we won't be coming back from 20 point deficits every game. So, starting fast and strong is the way to be. On to Jacksonville where I believe we can beat them if we make corrections and Oakland will have a tough time coming down to Baltimore and beating us. If all goes well, we could be sitting pretty at 4-0.

True, sharrecce wright returned to preseason form this game he still cant cover anybody. He was good in week 1 because they sent him on blitzes and he made tackles in the backfield but when he goes back to his job which is covering people he gets picked on more than a fat kid in elementary smh

If that happens maybe 5-0 because we will play the Redskins after the Raiders.

Not really an empty win. The extremely slow start cannot continue however. That was dreadful to watch unfold. It's not like you can say it was due to the timezone change. Very few games are won when you don't show up for the first quarter of a road game, and things only get tougher here on out. This is a lesson learning game and character building game.

Michael Pierce is having the most dominant season of any UDFA I've ever seen, and one of the most dominant performances of any Raven rookie to my memory. Amazing that this guy went undrafted--he looks like a 1st round pick out there, even beating one of the best guards in the league, Bitonio, for a huge sack.

I think as a whole the fans on this site need to be way more uplifting and posititive. Im gonna make a few points.

1) If it wasn't for Joe Flacco, we would've not only lost, but gotten blown out, never slowing the browns down. The first int, Haden read the route beautifully and jumped it, what the hell was he supposed to do? Joe Haden is a top 5 cb, he's great, don't let the team he plays for fool you, they suck, he's good. On the second one, yea he slightly underthrew it, but it was a one on one matchup with a receiver who ran a 4.26, he took a chance, but it didn't work out.

2) That 1st qtr was a fluke, it's very rare that any team could ever come out and start a game like that. The 2007 patriots could've played the wort team in nfl history, and that wouldn't have happened, rarely will you ever see a team score that many points in the 1st qtr.

3) People say our offense is predictable, but the with exception of that 2nd int, we almost scored 25 STRAIGHT POINTS. It's the browns i get it, but they are a professional team, they have brains, if it was that predictable we wouldn't have been able to do what we did.

4) Wright is a good corner. Early on in the madness, he got beat by a really gifted wr, but it's not like he burned him, he just got beat. Later in the game, he lost a jumpball, they're 50/50 balls man, it was great coverage, but Coleman made a great play, other than those 2 plays he was fine.

5) We Do look like a playoff team. Not only did we play a division opponent on the road, which is always difficult, we played a young team with a lot of young talent, and a QB, who imo is way way underrated. On top of that, every now and again, the Browns do play a good game and sometimes win. It may not happen very often but every blue moon, they play unexpectedly and for 1 week actually look like a good team, and today may have been that game. Last week we played a tough bills defense, on a defensive minded team, who game planned hard and long knowing months in advance who they were playing. Plus Rex has that odd mutual understanding of us only former coaches have with teams.

6) I will admit that our run blocking needs work, but we lost one of the best guards in football, and starting 2 rookies, The offense struggled wk 1 as a whole, and today we had to play catch up, but we ran it well at the end. Hopefully it improves as i think it will definitely get plenty of attention this wk leading up to the Jags game. I think fi we establish it early and get some good runs against the jags, our confidence will be high and be able to do it effectively.

Nice win ravens, i love this team.

Jimmy smith is playing terribly, him and sharece wright are suspect out there i would love to see the young guys get a chance out there if they dont shape up, like will davis, canady, and tavon young. Also, we probably have the worst offensive coordinator in the league in mark tresmon so predictable

Our top 2 corners are suspect. If it werent for weddle and our guys up front our defense would get murdered. And why do I keep seeing webby playing corner? We moved him to saftey because he cant play corner anymore so stop putting him there sick of seeing him get ate up like food in a dogs bowl

Well, a win is a win, BUT, anyone who still thinks Joe Flacco is Pro Bowl material should check into the nearest psychiatric hospital. Perhaps it is the awful play calling that makes him look not only worse but stupid as well. Time and again the Ravens fail on short yardage situations. Time and again Harbaugh blows game management, using all three time outs so the Ravens have none at the end of the game. If not for that ridiculous penalty on Pryor, Cleveland has the ball, first and goal inside the Ravens 10. Most poorly managed win in Ravens history. You won't get away with it against quality teams.

What happened to al those saying Wright is a straight baller?? LOL! I thought this would happen unfortunately. He made some tackles against a team last week that can't throw the football at all. However, now he struggles against the Browns wrs?? He's got a lot tougher wrs coming his way, right away too. The o line looks like it needs a little time to gel which is expected. But our corners do not look good. Time for Will Davis to no longer be a healthy scratch. Joe, stop underthrowing Perriman, and corners play better, and we'll be just fine. Esp. with Doom and Dixon coming back

Ill take the win , could have done without the first quarter, but hey this is the NFL any team can win on any week ( just ask the seahawks) .
My frustrations come with J forsett, he no longer has that burst, he seems to be running scared, instead of looking for a open lane, he is running straight into the pile , its time to give West and co the bulk of the carries..

It takes a lot out of a guy trying to watch the Ravens and O's at the same time. Fortunately, the results are fantastic, but getting there is agony.

I agree. our running game is terrible and I can't tell if it's the Oline as well but Forsett does not look good at all! Get healthy Dixon!!!!!

The truth of the matter is that great teams don't let anything stand in their way of getting a victory. That is the Ravens. We are not about looking good but are about getting the win. Criticize all you want but the Ravens never give up and should be appreciated for it.

We should fire everybody on this team!.. they suck!.... LOL!!!! NO!!!

Grit and heart is why I love the Ravens! And they showed it in this game. Sure it was rough watching them give up 20 in the 1st, but like any loyal fan, I sat and stuck it out with hopes of the win. They did not disappoint.

Rise and conquer.. like the shirt says lol.

After 2 games, that were completely different, i'm not going to hate on 2-0....Bills had 160 yards total offense last week, and then had 393 yards against a Jets defense, and then we allow 387 yards against a division opponent, yet come back from 20 down....This is the N.FL. if people are expecting us to blow teams out week in and week out, will be terribly disappointed.....Bottom line these two wins are games we lost last year, and now things are going our way, and there is no doubt what the deep threats we have on the team have already made a huge difference...And the Defense stood tall when they had to....2-0 is all that matters, we just have to keep improving.....so is it next Sunday yet???

Thank you for looking at things that way. Too many fans are upset because we don't play perfect ball. We are what we are and that will not change. The offense will get better and the defense will stiffen when necessary. Are we going to win them all, NO, but we'll take what we can and be happy for it.
