They seem smarter. As if it's dumbed down and they just know what they are doing. Less people out of position.

Tackling has def improved as well.

I think they just have better communication on the back end thanks to Weddle

I know these dont tell the whole story, but its back in our comfort zone - where we're used to seeing Ravens D rank.

Through 3 games:

Pts/G: 4th

Yds/G: 2nd (4 off leader)

Yds/P: T-2nd

1st/G: T-1st

ToP: 8th

Pass Yd/G: 3rd

INT: T-2nd

Sacks: T-7th

QB Rating: 8th (72.2)

Top 10's across the board (10th in run/g) and top 3 in a lot of the major categories. This D is for real.

Wow. Now THAT'S impressive. We got a big test coming up this Sunday. Man, if our offense can get it together, it's gonna go a long way for our defense. Speaking of which, I sure hope Doom is playing.

I feel like I recall seeing a few 5 man rushes. When I watch 1:00 games in JUST waking up after getting home from a 12 hour shift at 7am so I'm on 4 hours of sleep and can barely focus lol but I thought I saw us in base formation quite a bit and sending 5. I could be wrong though.

According to Filmstudy, you'd be mostly wrong

I think a combo of this and I think players said he's simplified things.  People seem to be happy with the pressures, but I feel like he's not calling things that much different.  Feels they're just getting home now.

A lot of four man rushes, really. It helps a ton that Jernigan has exploded onto the scene and Pierce looks like he can provide a big body to rush every once in a while.

Interior pressure been amazing which bodes well for the qbs we face down the line.

The pass rush almost always seems to amp up 2nd half of the season as well.

I think it's a bit of both. Pees simplified the coverages so they don't have to over think every play, and they have Weddle and Frazier helping to get all the DBs on the same page. Plus it helps that we're getting interior pressure and even the linebackers are stepping up in coverage.

Pees was brilliant on Sunday. I don't know who's decision it was to line up Wright on Robinson on goal line because I certainly disagree with that but again, he called a great game.

He's a bust man, a bust of similar proportion to Justin Gilbert.

Gotta give it to Pees... he's been VERY good this season. He comes up with some exotic 3rd down packages this season. The inside pass rush is very good so it helps the defense a lot. He doens't have to send LBs or DBs on blitzes every time and when he does it works well.

and coach Frazer is doing a tremendous job as well. The DBs are playing a lot better this season.

I doubt Pees has changed, he's a pretty old dude and I think he's always been good.  lol   The difference is he has personnel that are executing their assignments.

A HUGE improvement is Weddle.  There is on field communication and coordination on the back end that we have lacked since Ed left. And totally agree about Frazier. We are fortunate to have a DB coach of his quality. I guess Harbs hiring his cronies ain't such a bad thing after all, huh?

tell that to the fans who want exotic blitzes and organised chaos and such.....

One key so far this year is that so many guys play multiple positions. We are seeing the ravens crowd the line with 6 or 7 defenders a lot.

This creates indecision as to who is dropping, who is coming, of course ( on an offenses part). It appears to be working and seems to agree philosophically with this defense. Pretty organised, somewhat chaotic.

we have been doing this for a while lol.

the difference is that players are executing better and have less mental errors.

none of this is new.

Of course. Far more frequent this year and as you put forth, and as I alluded, done with more understanding and much more purposeful.

Not sure how one defines " organised chaos" as such, but I know this season appears a little more like it than the last few.

Funny thing is, that's exactly what Rex believed in when he was here. KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. As complex as the defense seemed it was very simple. It was the ability of guys to play multiple positions that made the defense special. Of course the ability of Ray and Ed to see the game the way they did helped as well.

Fast forward to Pees and the biggest difference was how complex his defense was, especially from the Safety position. Ed helped simplify the defense and I think Weddle is doing the same thing. Simplifying the systems allows guys to play faster, but having guys who can perform has helped the most.

Pees called an absolutely great game. All the way until the last drive. I don't blame pees for the loss however, that solely lies on the offense. They got the ball way too many times against the 2nd worst defense and didn't do anything

Defense didn't do bad, but I would have like to see another turnover.

The offense put them in awful spots. Flacco needs to show better awareness on that strip sack, not to mention that awful punt return. Shareece Wright was awful and should be benched after this game. 5 TD passes given up in the last two games... He needs to see the bench.

Um no.  Wright is doing fine. He's not doing great but I think if we start anyone else we see a lot worse.
