The Good, Bad and Awful week 2 vs Browns.

GOOD;

Michael Pierce really a steal. Judon plays with great effort and had several pressures. He is showing greater awareness in space. Loved that he recognized screen play late. Both guys hit like trucks. Jernigan also impressed.

Tavon Young  played well and I'm glad to see these younger guys getting time. Stanley was beaten on back to back plays early but really held up in pass protection after.

Pitta, Perriman, Wallace. Steve Smith tremendous blocking downfield..also some big catches.

Tucker straight up killer.

Team as a whole showing fortitude in coming back.

BAD ;

Too much pressure on Flacco up the gut.

Drops.

Team in need of more scheme throws designed to create yards after catch. This has been an issue for some time and is a reason that almost all drives feel so labored. All throws are contested, etc.

Joe's picks. The second one really really swiped the momentum back to Cleveland.

The running game appears very predictable and deliberate. I wonder if all those stupid tosses are a reflection of the fact that the handoffs are labored in the exchange ( or so it appears to me ).

Have to WANT 6 on that final drive. A great team gets the throat and doesn't put game in the hands of their defense.

Albert Mclellan is a good back up but offers not much full time.

UGLY start.

In conclusion, I have to say I'm optimistic this team can improve on both sides of the ball and a win on the road isn't just a good thing, it's a great thing.

coleman and pryor are talented dudes. but yeh

Didn't say they weren't talented, but they aren't the same tier as some of the other guys we have to go against: Brown, Green, OBJ, Marshall, etc.

The MVP of this game was Timmy Jernigan, he was in the QB's face on almost every play, he pummeled McCown.

The Ref that called that BS taunting play comes in close second.

The very first play of the game.

Jernigan sheds blocker and pounds ball carrier for two yard loss.

Great play.

Flacco played well outside of his two interceptions. The first one to Haden was unforgivable. The second one people will blame on Perriman but it was a poor throw. He underthrew Perriman deep. I don't think he could have fought for it. If people call him soft because of it idk what to say. It was a poor throw.

That being said. Perriman's catch over the middle was a good route run. We need to keep him in and keep going. He's gonna be a weapon.

The Bad: 4th Quarter Clock Management - Situational Football (last 2 possessions)

Because our offense didn't capitalize on the momentum during the comeback when we only needed a field goal to take the lead, break their defense and quite the crowd, we decided to be overly aggressive which lead to a needless interception that uplifted their team, ate-up clock and reignited their home fans.

Bad strategic calculation.

When we got the ball on the last offensive drive we decided to be overly cautious. As a result we squandered our last timeout (clock management), passed on 3rd down for an in-completion (stopping the clock for the Browns) and giving Tucker (elite) approximately 3-5 more yards to kick a field goal that is a give-me from another 15 yards.

As a result of this, the last defensive series suffered because of too much time left on the clock and the score. That said, more aggression should have been applied in the early downs. Players fail to make critical tackles and assignments, but with better clock management earlier it most likely doesn't come down to this.

Results: Unnecessary Nail Bitter (Thank the Football Gods for C.J. Mosley int )

Trestman and Pees need to get on the same page. That said, a win is a win.

I'm confused, other than Forsett running out of bounds, which had nothing to do with Trestman, how was it badclock management? Even the 3rd down pass play is a safe call that is a high percentage completion in most cases but the defense did their job, again not Trestman's fault.

The last two drives in the 4th quarter that you have issue with, saw the Ravens get the ball at their own 42 yardline with 13:54 left on the clock after a missed FG, with a 20-19 lead. Situational Football as you pointed out says there is far too much time left to play conservative and bank on a FG to win the game. So Trestman calls safe aggressive plays.

He calls a playaction pass to Pitta that resulted in 28 yards down the middle of the field. Ball on the 30 yardline now

Next two plays are runs off the right side, which you'd think is your more dominant side, with your veteran RB. 2 yards apiece, Ball on the 26 yardline.

Next play is a perfect play to Moore down to the 1 yardline, but for some odd reason Zuttah snaps the ball before Flacco is ready(again). So instead of having the ball on the 1 yardline with an opportunity to go up by 8, the penalty kills the drive and the Ravens settle for a Tucker FG. Where's the poor situational football?

The next drive saw the Ravens get the ball at their own 36 yardline with 8:01 left in the game. Won't go over the entire drive, but the most important part in terms of situational football is that the Ravens took over 5 minutes off the clock. Yes you want to get the clock down to under 2 minutes or force the Browns to use their final TO, but again, that's on player IQ and execution.

Without personally being on the sideline, I'd say the coaches had a  nearly flawless 4th quarter. The players determined the outcome of the game with their 4th quarter play, not Trestman and Pees being on the same page. The Ravens should have put up atleast 10 points over those final two drives but it was the players who didn't get it done.

Also not sure how you can fault Flacco and the offense for aggressively going for the TD instead of a FG holding a 1 point lead. He had his 6'3 WR who he saw go up and make a play last week, matched up with a 5-11 CB(although he's still one of the best) you gotta like your chances with a 1on1 jump ball. Flacco has to throw a better ball and Perriman has to fight for better positioning. But you definitely go or the TD there with over 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, not the FG.

Gotta give Ozzie some credit. Perriman and Moore look like good receivers. We definitely need to get them more involved.

Might be our #1 and #2 for the future. Which means speedy offense. Add the fact that we've got Flacco's BFF and Maxx waiting in the wings.  Good RB depth.

I will say this. I don't think we're good enough to win a SB this season. The offense needs more time together. But holy crap, if we can get a new center, and another WR who's a possesion guy, then we could be very good. Defense we need another corner and pass rusher.

This team isn't far away.

Glad we have proof that the coleman catch was out of bounds. Tired of the Browns fans complaining about the taunting call. It's not a guarantee they would have scored but the coleman catch put 7 on the board for them

Perriman is going to be a good one for us, but it's obvious he has some work to do....... tracking the ball, body positioning, etc..

A potential superstar who's problematic. He and Flacco need more time on the field together. Only way he's gonna get better

agreed with it being a poor throw, but I will say I think that's a play that is made 2-3 weeks from now. Joe and Perriman are still getting on the same page. Bad throw on Joe, but Perriman definitely could have competed for the ball, he just kind of kept running and expected the ball to come to him instead of attacking. I think Perriman would say he needs to make the catch every time, especially as a potential #1 guy. But it's a learning moment and i'm sure Engram will use it as a teachable moment.

Yet, you fail to mention the last Ravens(confusion) time-out and in-completion that resulted in the Browns not needing to call their last time-out earlier (before the 2 minute warning) in our last possession. That completely changed the dynamics of the game.

The what-ifs are great, but 'Situational Awareness' is another thing. In this case, if more offensive conservative play-calling would have been used before we got the lead (leading to Browns interception) and more aggressive play calling and clock-management would have been implored during our last drive to put the game away - our final defensive stance would not have been a nail-bitter. Too much time was left on the clock...period.

There's no way to predict outcomes based on the most trusted analytic methods, but how those last 2 offensive and 1 defensive series went only give the opponent a more likely opportunity to win the game. It is what it is. I'm just happy we won (CJ Mosley) in spite of those choices.

Flacco and Wallace seem to have legit chemistry. Very happy with that.

Won't turn this into a Flacco thread, but I don't think people give 5 enough credit for the way he quickly builds chemistry with FA vets. Boldin, SSS, Wallace, Housh, Daniels and it was even said that he and Watson was quickly building chemistry. His numbers don't put him among the game's best, but this is a huge aspect of the game that goes unnoticed with Joe. If he can ever keep the same group of guys around him for 3+ years, it's gonna be crazy I think.

I think Wallace has answered any question about him being washed up or if he could still produce. I think his ability to make plays downfield will open up even more if Pitta, SSS and Perriman can continue to make plays.

The good: PITTA. Player of the game. Weddle, Mosley, Wallace, Tucker, Hester.

The ugly: The Browns, Shareece Wright, our D line, our run game.

I don't put any blame on Perriman, at all.

I think we as fans need to start calling a play like it is. Joe Haden was literally perfect on that play from start to finish, just like Jimmy's coverage on Pryor earlier in the game.

A little underthrown, but it'd be an absurd catch.

I'm with you. Both of the long throws to Perriman were on his inside shoulder. The first was also short. I'm not certain that either was makeable, but I am glad that he broke up the potential interception.

Perriman broke up a potential interception later in the fourth quarter. He also had his man sealed on a deep ball toward the end of the 2nd quarter with no deep help. If Joe leads him to the center of the field rather than throwing it up he likely has a completion.

Joe's pick in the end zone was a bad ball. I know you conceded this already but a great throw there gives Perriman a chance to make a play.

This team needs Joe to be GREAT if we have a shot. Seems every time he throws a pick its the receivers fault and excuses are made.

We've seen what Joe's capable of in the run. He has the ability to carry this team and that's what should be expected.

Did we come out of this game injury free?

Unless someone slipped in the shower of fell out of the plane, we did well with the injuries today.

Otherwise,,,, is it too much to admit the Browns are actually a good team?  Is it too much to admit that their reputation as a team is pretty unwarranted ?  Not as an organization,,,, they fully own that.   Watching them today, I can't find a single thing about them that truly sucks or is truly awful.  I most certainly can think of worse QB's, more poris O-lines, weaker secondaries, and so on.  You get what I am saying.  I am  not saying the best by any means, or even top ten, but I can't point to anything and say " See ?  That is why the Browns suck. "
If you can I am all ears. ( or eyes since this is a message board )

Terrence West needs to be the starter ASAP. Sorry but Forsett is looking pretty old out there. Dude can't break arm tackles if his life depended on it. West generates positive yards atleast. Also I don't know what to make of this win. Did we play clutch? Or did we win a game that shouldn't have been close? I'm so confused right now lol.

West can't catch
