Rams planning on making a move in regards to a trade for Saints Head Coach Sean Payton this week. Rams will look to seek permission to speak to Payton this week and whether Saints GM Mickey Loomis is open to trading Payton.

Sean Payton should consider walking away from the Saints for a year and waiting for a better option in 2018. Going to that dumpster fire is not a good way to end your coaching career.

I highly doubt Payton's next coaching job will be his last, and New Orleans was a dumpster fire when he took that job.

I feel like teams without a head coach are almost always dumpster fires, anyway, so he's got slim pickings if he wants a better option. Typically, a coach is fired because it's a dumpster fire, right?

Both NE coordinators getting HC interviews

Will they leave the guidance of BB for terrible teams only to find themselves back in New England in the next couple years?

Familiar territory for McDaniels but they'd be crazy not to try.

Sean Payton says that he plans on staying with the Saints. I imagine with Brees in a contract year, this will be their last ride together before the Saints start over.

Well Black Monday was dull.... guess teams are going to just fire coaches before Black Monday to take the joy out of finding out who is getting fired and who is staying.

Summary:

Patriots OC Josh McDaniels is interviewing with the 49ers, Rams and Jaguars on Saturday.

Redskins OC Sean McVay will interview with the Rams on Thursday.

Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan will interview with the 49ers and also has interviews with the Broncos, Jags and Rams.

The Chargers are interested in talking to Dolphins Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph for their Head Coaching vacancy. Bills and Rams also want to talk to Joseph as well.

While Todd Bowles will be back, the Jets are making some changes to their assistant coaches and OC Chan Gailey is retiring from coaching.

Quote

Relieved of their duties were quarterbacks coach Kevin Patullo, running backs coach Marcel Shipp, defensive line coach Pepper Johnson, outside linebackers coach Mark Collins and defensive backs coach Joe Danna.

Redskins fire Defensive Coordinator Joe Barry. Also fired DB coach Perry Fewell, DL coach Robb Akey and strength and conditioning coach Mike Clark.

Edit: Apparently this offseason has turned into firing all the assistants. Saints have fired assistant Head Coach Joe Vitt, ST Coordinator Greg McMahon and DL coach Bill Johnson.

Colts are planning to bring back HC Chuck Pagano for 2017 season, as @alexmarvez reported.

Just as well, since we aren't going to make a change at DC this year.

Maybe Indy will stink it up again and he'll get fired next year. That way he'll be available - in the undesirable event that we fail again and end up cleaning house on the coaching front.

Who knows - maybe he'll get another HC post - but if he goes back to the DC ranks, I'd love to have him (and not Rex) back as our DC. The defense when he was DC was spectacular.

All depends on how well our defense performs next season as well. I highly doubt Pees gets fired next season should we finish top 5. However if he gets canned because our defense underachieves, I'd GLADLY take him back too.

What's worse is the fact they are keeping GM Ryan Grigson. I'm glad they kept Pagano but Irsay should have gave him a better GM that can put talent around him. Then if the Colts still suck with a new GM, then fire Pagano.

Personally, I don't think he should have this season to prove himself. IMO the defense let us down big time at the end of the season and the late game collapses have been going on pretty much since he's come on board.

How is he going to do that?

If the talent on D is the problem, what gives us confidence it will improve with Suggs, Webb and Weddle year older, Dumervil most likely out and the real possibility we again miss with draft picks?

If Pees is the problem, what magic trick would he need to perform so that things all of a sudden change after 5 years?

We all - from owner down to fans - need to learn to let go of something that doesn't work.

How is he going to do what? I'm totally confused by this post ... did you reply to the wrong post?

I'm saying that I wanted to see Pees let go this offseason .... because I'm letting go of something that doesn't appear to be working. If it is a talent issue, then I'm not sure how we can look elite all game and fall apart on the final drive when the team needs us the most - or look good all year and fall apart at the end of the season.

I hear you and I agree. I wouldn't be sad if he left either, but I'm just guessing what the FO would do if that were to happen. The only two road wins were against CLE and JAX, both of which our defense came in the clutch and it wasn't a coincidence that Jimmy played in both.

Jimmy is awesome, but we can't keep putting all of our eggs into one basket otherwise our defense will have games like against NYG, DAL, and NE.  I don't think there'll be a single Ravens fan on these boards that WOULDN'T be livid if Ozzie doesn't address the CB position in the offseason (particularly the draft).

I wonder if Grigson has something on Irsay. Seriously, it's a joke that he still employed, but I'm kinda happy in a way. The AFC is already competitive as it is.

Matt Patricia is gonna be a hot name

i think Patricia could be a good HC. The only thing that might get in his way of becoming one is teams not wanting to wait until the Pats season is fully over.

If they want to upgrade the DC position, they should just fire their DC and get a few candidates. Don't interview one person while keeping the current one as the backup plan.

That's sad

I know. Why do NFL teams like retreads so much? Not saying new coaches or new college coaches are the answer but the retreads needs to stop being a phase.
